If I remember correctly Black Flag launched on PS4 with 900p resolution. It was only after launch that they bumped it up to 1080p. So lets hope that they patch this game the same way.

Clowns. Handicapping a system because the other cannot perform to the same degree to avoid "debates" ?

They've moved from fucking over PC's to consoles.

I really enjoyed black flag and was borderline getting this or far cry 4. guess i will be getting far cry 4. can't believe ubi went backwards on ps4 since Black flag.

but they win with me either way, the suckers publish far cry too lol.

I plan on playing this on either console or PC, and frankly I don't give a toss if it's running at 900p instead of 1080p and neither should anyone else.

    It's a negligible difference really.

I agree it's a negligible difference, and gameplay obviously trumps all. But intentionally reducing the specs on one version of the game, thereby not making it look the best it can for those players, in order to placate people playing it on a slightly lower quality on another console, is completely ridiculous and is a practice which should be challenged.

Obviously, this relates only to consoles and not PC which is a completely different discussion altogether.

I want my 1080peeeeeeeeeee! Now I know how PC boys felt when Watch dogs was downgraded :)

Yupp, I don't think I could notice the different between the 2 but I think Ubisoft have just brought more attention to the fact and fuelling the debate. It's happened in so many games now, I didn't think people cared anymore, now they are starting it up again with Sony lads with super vision going mad they are getting an 'inferior' product.

And in the most unsurprising move of the week, Ubisoft have issued a statement clarifying their position after the interview with the AC:U Senior Producer yesterday...
We understand how Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand's quotes have been misinterpreted. To set the record straight, we did not lower the specs for Assassin's Creed Unity to account for any one system over the other.

Assassin's Creed Unity has been engineered from the ground up for next-generation consoles. Over the past 4 years, we have created Assassin's Creed Unity to attain the tremendous level of quality we have now achieved on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It's a process of building up toward our goals, not scaling down, and we're proud to say that we have reached those goals on all SKUs.

At no point did we decide to reduce the ambitions of any SKU. All benefited from the full dedication of all of our available optimization resources to help them reach the level of quality we have today with the core Assassin's Creed Unity experience.

Final specs for Assassin’s Creed Unity aren’t cemented yet, but we can say we showed Assassin’s Creed Unity at 900p during our hands-on preview event last week. We’re confident that gamers will be thrilled with the gorgeous graphics and how Paris is brought to life in Assassin’s Creed Unity.

People often wonder why developers don't talk to the press more and instead we get publisher mouth pieces. This is actually a pretty good example why. With no direction quote from a level designer, this became this which has now become this. :pac:

They came out with this yesterday.
Assassin's Creed Unity will run at 900p/30fps on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Ubisoft has confirmed, with the publisher opting to aim for platform parity to avoid discussion over the differences in performance.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff," senior producer Vincent Pontbriand told VideoGamer.com while explaining that it's the consoles' CPUs – not the GPU – that prevents Ubisoft Montreal from improving the game's performance.

"Technically we're CPU-bound," he said. "The GPUs are really powerful, obviously the graphics look pretty good, but it's the CPU [that] has to process the AI, the number of NPCs we have on screen, all these systems running in parallel.

"We were quickly bottlenecked by that and it was a bit frustrating, because we thought that this was going to be a tenfold improvement over everything AI-wise, and we realised it was going to be pretty hard. It's not the number of polygons that affect the framerate. We could be running at 100fps if it was just graphics, but because of AI, we're still limited to 30 frames per second."

Last year's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag also shipped at 900p/30fps on both PS4 and Xbox One. A post-release patch, however, bumped the PS4 version to 1080p. Ubisoft has given no indication that it has plans to do the same for Unity.

Assassin's Creed Unity launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 14.

    That'd be Monday ;)

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they go for 1080p on the PS4 either by launch or post-release via a patch. Between the negative press that interview has caused and EA sticking the knife in yesterday with the DA:I announcement it's certainly in their best interests to push for it.

Ubisoft are having a livestream event on Friday and if you RSVP you get free dlc on launch. You don't have to watch the stream, I think( Stream on at 2am Irish Time)

    Abstergo f**k yourselves Ubisoft.

Given the level of promotion GAME are giving them in the UK, I'd wager it's another exclusivity deal similar to what THQ tried awhile back with Space Marine. :(

Wow. I wonder if that's a cutscene or if different time periods will be available during the game.

I've always thought they were missing a trick by not including Singularity-like gameplay in AC, where actions in one time-period can change events in the other (so kill someone in the past and an enemy disappears in the present, hide loot in the past and you it's a treasure to pick up in the present etc...)

This only applies to the U.K. I just checked my Steam, and I can pre-order Unity and Far Cry 4.

If there is a deal done with GAME UK, then it might be a timed deal and these games could appear on Steam a week or two later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,108 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

OK I've decided what I'm doing as regards AC. Going to play the Adeline DLC fo Black Flag and complete the BF campaign to 100% sync. Get Unity loaned from a friend and buy Rogue for the PS4 when it gets it's inevitable PS4 release sometime next year.

Also would like to add after seeing what Rocksta have done on the PS4 with GTA 5 Ubi have no excuses whatsoever. Need to get the finger out or more people will loan their games or by them second hand a few months later for cheap.

then when Im finished with gta its gonna be between this or farcry

will see which game gets the better reviews im not mad on AC but do enjoy playing it then trading it in when done there not games I would go back to once I have finished it

I was tempted to get this but then I remembered I didnt finish black flag yet :o so I better hold off, also farcry 4 next week \0/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,100 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Smyths have the game down as 54.99 on their website, 69.99 every other place. Not sure if this is final as most other games are down as 64.99

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,552 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Going to hold off, Ubi do some good deals around Christmas and I'll not be playing it soon anyway.

don't forget to buy the freedom cry dlc for black flag. it's very good. also rogue on the ps3 is like a sequel to black flag. However that will likely come to ps4 within the next 6 months.

Reviews will be out today at 5pm GMT. So far, I am hearing about a lot of problems with performance on all platforms and many bugs. Does not bode well :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,435 ✭✭✭Josey Wales

The worst thing I've heard about the performance issues is that the Day 1 patch (around 900MB) has not fixed these issues.

Thought they would have learned form creed 3.ready for a play after Xmas so.

Lots of performance issues on all platforms, but it looks be sporadic. Some PS4s run the game absolutely fine while others do not. Same applies to Xbone units and PCs.

At least some of the reviews coming out are good. So when the game actually plays correctly it seems to be worth it. I'll probably wait until issues are fixed though.

7/10 from GameSpot, citing an underdeveloped opportunity to explore this particularly fascinating time in history, but the graphics and feel of Paris is excellent.

Kotaku (for the first time ever) are recommending you skip this year's Assassin's Creed.

    7.8/10 from IGN.

    There are microtransactions in this?

There goes all my interest. There's already too many games coming out to play so the negative buzz and the microtransactions make it easier for me to ignore.

I have bought every Assassin's Creed on release (sometimes pre-ordered), but I will be passing on this until the bugs are fixed and I see a decent discount applied - maybe 50% off in the Steam Christmas sale? A shame, really. I reckon this might go down much the same as AC3, and hopefully whatever comes after Unity will mirror Black Flag.

The guy who reviewed Unity at IGN said they only received their copy of Rogue today, so it will take them a while to get through it. Maybe by the end of the week if most websites only received the game today.

Hope gamers vote with their wallet this time. Too common this scenario. Especially with game releasing in na before review embargo.
    Sly move.

  • Game has been burnt out by the developers. I never liked it beyond AC 2 and even then it wasn't great.

If ever there was an argument for a fallow period for a franchise, it's for Assassin's Creed (perhaps Call of Duty too). Not only would it likely give the creators an opportunity to really polish the game and explore the mechanics and design in more depth, I also reckon it would be a powerful marketing tool that could reignite the interest of players burnt out on too many Creeds.

Obviously Ubisoft are milking the franchise for all its worth - with no minor amount of financial success - but I definitely reckon a year off is exactly what the series needs creatively and maybe even commercially (in the long-term, anyway).

Also would be nice if they managed to make a game that wasn't full of bull**** filler and farcically misguided campaign missions, but I'm just being idealistic now.
