I'd start at the first one. You really get into the back story and there are numerous references to characters in all the games so it gives you a sense of whats happening. Some of the games aren't amazing but still worth playing through if you have the time.

As for people saying Unity is a mess, i have to disagree. I've had a few glitches and slowdown but nothing horrendous. Some people just like a good whinge.

I'm a Massive AC fan and I would recommend starting from the start. The story is amazing but can get really fluffy in places.

AC1 is a slog and would really show its age today. You could just watch the game play movie on you tube in 3 or 4 hours which would give you the back story.

ACII is amazing and still one of my all time top games. To wonder around Italy is amazing and you can get lost for hours

AC Brotherhood is the cherry on top of ACII. Rome is brilliant and the game play / call in assassin functionality is brilliant fun

AC Revelations is forgettable but its does wrap up the stories of AC1, II and Brotherhood. Some proper tear jerker moments in there.

ACIII is my least favorite of the series. Scale was massive but to many glitches and bugs. I did enjoy the history of the american revolution and I use to live in Boston so it was pretty cool to see the landmarks that you can still walk pass today.

AC Black Flag was a great game. Nothing ground breaking and didn't really push the series forward to much but just solid with a really likable character.

AC Rogue was good. It really did feel like black flag with a twist and rounds off the stories, especially that of ACIII.

Just started Unity and there is defiantly a good few references back to the originals that you would need to get.

As I said about AC1, you could always just watch the game play moves on youtube....

i wonder will they do a halo effort and bring AC 1,2, brotherhood, revaltions and AC3 to next gen??

After the clusterfcuk that is AC Unity and the issues they've had, I would rather see them take a break next year and release something new in November 2016.

Maybe someday sony will invent an easy ps3 to ps4 port developer kit and they might do a 10 year anniversary addition in 2017....

All the tie-ins are going to annoy me. I'm one of those OCD people who need to finish everything, but for some of the collections the Co-op and Companion App gameplay is mixed in, so you can't complete them unless you also play Co-op and the Companion app. Annoying, I wish they were kept separate.

I messed with the app a little, but found it pretty boring, even the Black Flag app gameplay was better. I do like the heatmap though (a map of which areas of the city people are visiting), that's quite cool, and you can see most are around the centre isles and certain parts of the North, but relatively few are exploring the South side yet. Plus the Uplay notifications ("You've earned something on Uplay". Can I connect to get it? No!) and the repeating 'you've lost your connection'.. 'your connection has been restored'.. 'you've lost your connection.. popups.

Luckily, the gameplay and stability is solid (for me), but this game takes spam/add-ins/add-ons/up-sell to an all-new level.

I've spent some time with the companion app last night / today. I do find it a little annoying especially that you have to spend hours in the app (and also on AC Initiatives) to be able to open chests... I find this to be truly the work of the evil corporate types at Ubisoft and I bet the developers voiced their opinions as best they could (without losing their jobs). Horrible horrible gaming experience....

I don't actually mind the app as such but wrapping it in so closely to the core game is stupid!

I am having pretty bad connection issues to stuff though on the on the PS4. Couldn't access Uplay, the estore or play co-op multiplayer last night.... (is the co-op multiplayer not the biggest selling point of the game???:confused::confused::confused:)

I wont have much time to play until next weekend so I am hoping once I do get stuck in, things will be a lot more stable....

Black Flag would be good to start with, it explains the Modern Day part of the storyline better than Unity does. (There's not much in Unity, but it also doesn't explain it at all, to the point where newcomers would be really confused why there's hacker video messages interrupting their French Revolution-set videogame.....) It's also a better game.

    ACII
    AC
    AC:B
    AC:R
    AVIV
    ACR
    ACU

    In that order :)

The first AC was terribly flawed, Black flag is second best behind 2.

I would say play 2 first, then brotherhood, then black flag. Skip the rest.

Ah here delete the app now, best you get are some outfits to cover your equipped armor and gear, no stats on it , you get them from the other gear you have. The app I found crashed (android on moto g) every time you went back to the map after starting or finishing a quest, they should allow you to filter those blue chests out of the map. The initiates stuff still isnt live so only possible to get to level 5 at the minute, again if I could filter out the gold chests I would nothing but useless crap in those too.

At least the black flag one had some impact on the game you could farm stuff to upgrade the ship etc at work and help pals out :pac:

The theatre dishes out insane amonts of cash to buy the best gear in no time, stick with that. last check in my game I was getting 43k an hour from there.

I wasnt ranking them in order of quality, I was ranking them in terms of the best order to play them. The original is best played after AC II because AC II gives you a proper taste for the game (being the best in the series) and will make you much more willing to slog through the original in order to pick up the bits of the story referenced in 2

I was hooked on AC from playing the second one. Sometimes I think half my problem is I went through them too quick. Loved brotherhood and revelations but they were all tied in together. AC 3 just broke the overall story, black flag was great in it's own right but just didn't feel like an AC game.

I think the AC2 series was the games high point and after that it just completely lost it's way. So if you want to play Assassins creed, get the 2 series and then consider the rest completely different games.

    QFT

As per my previous post, if you want the complete experience, you need to play all the games But AC2, ACB and ACR (the Ezio story) are absolutely immense.... great games

How are you getting so much? Mine's limited to about 3,900 when full, and I don't think it fills anything like 10 times an hour!! Do the other 'social club' venues generate income into the theatre chest too?

They must, I've bought them all as they were only 1500 or so each, and I've done the 3 or 4 missions given by the lady in the Theatre. The missions in the social clubs don't add to the total income though, I made a point of checking when I did some of them, I have the best of every gear item now, the waist item that allows you to carry 22 lock picks was a god send.

Locking picking is mental in Unity :/ I would need all 22! :)

Sold! That lets me open... 1, maybe 2 doors?

Wish they'd incorporated a better lock pick mini-game, or none at all. Is it Skyrim where you lock-pick by twisting the stick and feeling for a vibration when you get close? Much better than timing hitting a button.

That method was in AC 3

Looks like the acinitiates.com site has finally come to life
Looks like it imported my history for all AC games as well

How are the issues with the game now? I got the PS4 version last week, but I've not started it yet as I was going to wait for the issues to be resolved.

Is there a patch to fix the stuttering on the xbox one due the game is great it just seems that the stuttering happens at the most critical moments

Think I'll be sticking with gta until they have that fixed

    What stuttering

Seen very little framerate issues apart from the briefest of instances, and have 60% total game sync. Nothing that would stop me or interfere with gameplay.

i get crazy frame drops every couple of minutes
especially when there's lots going on

No major issues for me. Bar two times where I was climbing on stained glass windows (probably a very specific lighting issue there) the general framerate has been fine. Certainly not silky smooth 120fps, but nothing that impacts gameplay in any way.

Have seen some people sitting/standing 1ft off the ground, seems to happen a fair bit. Also saw a woman walk over a lamppost :)

"Outside" the game, there's a bit of overlapping in the HUD overlay which is annoying. But the connectivity issues seem be being resolved, you can now connect to Uplay, the E-store and the Initiates, if you so desire.

It's a very good game, IMO. Looks great, and a lot more to do than simply run around and collect feathers / open chests.

I wish I'd realised I needed the sync points from co-op before doing them

I picked up a few but didn't go out of the way for them, turns out you need all those to unlock all the skills.
