What do you guys think of Dead Kings?

I found it alright, took only 2 or 3 hours to complete. The guillotine gun is alright but nothing special. There are puzzles also but I just used a guide for them. Stealth is a big part of some of the missions (if you are trying to get 100% sync). The story is set after Unity but some of it doesn't make sense

After a few months of putting it off, I finally started Unity properly. About 5 sequences in, and I'm definitely enjoying it. Controls are still a bit iffy, but the fighting is improved. It was pretty easy to just jump in and take on 20 guards at a time, where now a bit of tactics are needed, at least at my current point in the game.

Just started the game. 3 sequences done. It looks great and no bugs yet so hopefully it continues that way

I finished the main story and the DLC over the weekend. I actually really enjoyed it. I had no bugs as such, bar once instance when the whole game crashed back to the dashboard. There's still some control issues, but that's more the whole series rather than this particular entry.

Now I just need to finish off the Paris stories, the riddles and some of the investigations. I don't think I will have the patience to do the other collectibles.

Is there any more DLC due for this? I know the China one is coming but that seems to be a different game in that it's a 2.5D game rather than extra levels/areas for Arno.

Finished off the DLC there, that actually would have been worth spending money on. It was certainly more interesting in both story and gameplay than a lot of the main game. I'd go as far as saying it should have been the plot of the main game as it was far more in keeping with previous entries to the series.

I actually liked the fact you could kill the captain and his goons would flee. Would have been an excellent in the main game if they were harder to get to and not so easy to pick off.

Finished playing Dead Kings and it was very very enjoyable.

Spent 97 hours playing the game so far  Still have plenty of chests to open and side missions to do.

Great News! You no longer need to use the companion app to open the blue chests. They're automatically open for everyone after the latest update now :D

    Crap :D

Last post back in February. Well here's a long shot. Anyone on the Xbox One up for doing a run on the co-op stuff?

    Need to get...

    Visited Once82 (30)
Complete all Co-op and Heist missions in Paris at least once.

    Never Say Die15 (10)
    Revive a partner in Co-op.

    Choreography18 (10)
    Perform 10 Co-op sync kills.

I can do some of the stuff I need in missions on my own... I have Heads Will Roll, The Food Chain and Moving Mirabeau done already. I'll be seeing what other stuff I can do solo as I'm playing.

    GT - Pushtrak

Edit: I just checked and that was just the co-op missions section. I also have some of the Heists done....

Tithing Templars, Catacomb Raider, The Party Palace are done.

Edit 2: Not sure how likely this is to be seen but didn't want to double post. I've been tipping away at it and have done a lot of the missions solo now. I'll definitely need help to do The Infernal Machine. I'm trying two last ones from the main game, The Tournament now, the other 5 star tomorrow. I'll also try the Dead Kings co-op one tomorrow.

playing it now not enjoying it, just to have the modern day story. will be straight onto syndicate as soon as the story is over. I will not be playing after to get all the collectibles and all that.

Syndicate is brilliant and unity isn't crap it was just marred with bugs and technical issues on release, I really loved both.

I played Unity well after release, i called it terrible based on terrible gameplay, horrific story and generally overwhelming levels of 'wow this is not fun'.

It's like they took everything that was good from Black Flag and decided to get rid of it. Like the dev said" you liked countering with the hidden blade, lets get rid of that. You liked an exciting world to explore, noooo can't be having that. Here, bet you liked climbing too, let's make that torture and as for art style, grey grey with brown highlights"

Remember they had you rate missions when you finished them in the older games???? I'd love to see the results but I'd say most people mashed buttons to get them out of the way unless it was really bad. Wonder how much of that "feedback" shaped the later games :pac:

    Played both only recently.

Both games suffer from the old style AC controls - usually you fail a mission because you got stuck on a railing or jumped up the wrong wall. Both have amazing environments - London looks great as does Paris. Big fan of the huge crowds in Paris too.

Unity has some of those dreaded eavesdrop/follow missions, which I can't say I enjoyed at all. Syndicate has decent protagonists, Unity has an AC3 style angry young man.

Really enjoyed Syndicate. Unity isn't as bad as they say (IMO), but it does have its flaws, especially in the gameplay sector.

If I were you I would skip Unity and go straight to Syndicate. Syndicate is basically what Unity would have been had it actually been finished.
Literally every mechanic in Unity is in Syndicate but better. For instance, here are these side missions called the Dreadful Crimes which are just delightful and a more realised version of the murder mysteries in Unity. You don't realise it but each of the murder mysteries you have to solve are actually part of one big conspiracy and the conclusion to it is great.
Unity had a lot of great ideas which even the RPG style AC games today owe some credit to but those ideas are not really fleshed out until Syndicate.

I did them and never found them intrusive. They were kind of pointless though because so much of what works or doesn't work in any game is about context. So even if you give a five star rating to a type of mission doesn't mean it would work in the next game.

That being said, it was obvious though that players gave 4 or 5 stars to the Murder Mysteries in Unity and the Dreadful Crimes in Syndicate because now virtually every mission since Origins requires you to investigate and work out what happened and even the whole Cult of Cosmos / Order of the Ancients thing is one big detective system.

I actually much preferred Unity to Syndicate. I got it around launch when everyone was complaining about bugs but I never came across any other than things like the odd AI character clipping through some terrain or whatever which has existed in every AC game up to and including Valhalla.

I thought it was a great game, Paris is still by far and away the best setting AC has visited in my opinion, the city was a joy to explore and the atmosphere was great and I enjoyed playing through the story. Obviously it lacked all the ship stuff of Black Flag, but the traversal was a step up and it had some really good stealth gameplay picking your way around varied exterior and interior locations, sometimes on rooftops, sometimes up in the rafters of large buildings, sometimes carefully moving from room to room at ground level, which was much more fun than just forever using tall grass like the previous game (and much of the current ones for that matter)

I really looked forward to Syndicate and it built on Unity but I thought the grappling hook that they added just broke the gameplay, as you basically teleported your way around the place avoiding everything and removing a lot of the fun both of exploration and of figuring out how to get around stealthily. It also had multiple horse and carriage missions which were annoying because they were absolutely no fun to control, and all of those repetitive copy paste missions where you keep having to go to these cookie cutter generic factories to do the same tasks over and over again to gain control of areas - AC has always had an element of that but Syndicate seemed like the worst and most obvious offender.
