    How'd you get on lad?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 433 ✭✭MaggotBrain

Disaster, didn't even make it there.

Had to go home to help out early Saturday morning. When the slurry tanker exploded at lunchtime Saturday I knew I wouldn't make it. Then spent all day Sunday chasing cattle cross country, I should have worn my Garmin for the craic. Most interesting LSR I've done. :o

I would've loved to run Adare, was looking forward to it for a long time. Will get cracking for the Limerick Half now.

Sorry to hear that. Was looking forward to reading about how you broke 50!

Was half considering Limerick Half myself but timing just doesn't work unfortunately.
What plan will you follow if any?

Drove home in gear at lunch and ran back via the Mulclair and eventually the Shannon. I havent been down there since I was a kid.

    5.19 @ 9:51

How was that trail? Haven't been on it since the Summer. Then it was overgrown with a lot of nettles! Any better now?

Your comment about chasing cattle cross country brought back some memories of chasing crazy stampeding limousins when the oul fella was still farming! Happy days...

I haven't a clue what I'm doing at the moment. I'm still disorientated after DCM :)

I'm thinking the half is a bit out of my reach so soon. Will keep plugging away and if the signs give the nod I'll enter last minute. Training is lax at the moment and that's being generous...

I joined from the Plassey Roundabout and then back to the castle and work. Path was dry enough not to be slippy so will probably venture up further next time. No nettles. If I can avoid running past the smokers of Vistakon I'll be a happy chap. Think I can get home to Annacotty via the rugby club. No spoilers please ;)

Yea farming is the **** haha! Couldn't type today due to the barbed wire gauges. Give me the hard life over sitting at a desk looking for spare milliseconds any day. One day. :)

    Running will resume shortly...

I've hummed and hawed about closing my account to be honest but I didn't based on how silly I felt the first time I did it.

My knee is still not right and it's really eating away at my enthusiasm. Do not misunderstand me, I would be out there in the howlin' rain if I could but it's niggling away at me all the time. The logical answer is go get it seen to, but I've done that and spent a fortune on the best already. I'm short of getting an MRI.

So I've taken multiple days off, swam, cycled, did nothing, stretched, Physio, massages, the lot. Nothing is helping.

It's all a bit negative running wise for me at the moment, especially when I have to write it down in words. Sorry if this bums you out dear reader but there ya have it. Everything by the knee.

(I may be running a race very soon, to hell with the ****ing thing)

Managed 3 runs last week. Mon 4, Sat 7, Sun 4. Not too bad pain wise. Was heading out last night but it wasn't raining and I needed to change the brakes. Of course I had the car in a million pieces and it lashed. Should've ran.

In other news I'm trying to book accommodation for streets of Galway but prices are mental. So Marty I'm sleeping in your kitchen stock up the fridge ;)

Don't close your account anyway, no sense in doing that. Take it easy getting back into it and back off if you are having pain.

Sorry to hear about the knee, S, hope you get it sorted! Loved your description of XC cattle chasing!

+1 to what Adrian said. Take it handy as well until you have it cleared up, don't push the intensity and speedwork stuff until you're sorted. Good luck with it.

I know, I know, thanks guys just venting. :)

Very frustrating for you MB. Like Laura said, I'd keep everything as easy as possible for moment and would forget the speed work and races.
Can you do plenty of swimming and cycling to keep the fitness up? Will you get the MRI?
Best of luck with the recovery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,140 ✭✭✭martyboy48

+1 to what Ososlo said above.

If swimming and cycling doesn't aggravate it I'd definitely keep at them, can't believe I said that :D:D

Was it multiply physios you went to or just 1 highly recommended one? If just the one maybe try another? A fresh pair of eyes may unlock the mystery??

If you've been to a couple then maybe MRI/specialist I don't know tbh...

I definitely wouldn't be even thinking of racing or any speedword. If you can do a few short light jogs and feel nothing then do that, but I wouldn't be trying to "get back on the horse" and into a gallop straight away. You may have to take three steps back to sort this one.

I understand how frustrating it can be when it seems no progress is being made with the injury, hopefully it will get sorted for ya.

Ya wouldn't want to stay in this madhouse :D:D Did ya try the B&Bs in college road? they are usually quiet reasonable. The Imperial in eyre square and the western on prospect hill were fairly priced last I heard anyways :)

Head up scan, get out for a few walks even to get you out of the house or ya might get stuck in a rut. Post on the log when your ready, I wont rush ya :)

Formula 1, ITA-FRA, Utd-Spurs and a pain free run. Mothering Sundays don't get better than that. :)

    7.48 @ 10:18

Up early and down to the UL boat house. Had a breather on the pontoon and watched the swans make shapes into town. Took a loop of the two bridges and back up to Plassey to get my jacket. From there home I ran walked just to really take it easy on the knee. Seemed to have got away with a decent few miles. Mightn't be quality but it's all time on the feet.

Sounds like a perfect Sunday alright! Good stuff on continuing to get out but taking it handy, that will stand to you no doubt when you get the knee sorted.

Out the gap for 7:30. Not sure if it was because I rolled out of bed or the sharp cold air but my lungs struggled even at slow pace. Might give myself more time to wake up next time!

3 week break hoping that will help the knee. It was 2 degrees last time I ran, some heat out there now!

Signed up for the IMRA Munster Wednesday League starting this time next month. Won't make it to the County Cork meets as it's too far but the rest are all nearby. Then it's head down for the Streets of Galway. I'm surely due a bit of luck :D

    3.87 @ 10ish

Edit: I have a lot of catching up to do with the logs too!

I thought Easter Sunday was the day for apparitions! Welcome back man. Hopefully the rest will have sorted it. Might be an idea to strengthen the glute medius and give the TfL a good aul stretch before you run. I had problems with my IT band for ages and it hasn't bothered me since I started doing them.

Thanks very much! I hope so too.. I feel it this evening but not sure if I'm just being paranoid. I've lost track of all the logs, will catch up when I get a moment to myself. Hope training is going well for you...

Cheers horse! Hate to do it to you but would you mind outlining or naming a few of the stretches? Will do some research but would be handy to have some advice from the wise lad!

No worries lad. I was using these two:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS7cYp4Z2kk

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEuH_hgqp4k

It might take a bit of practice to get the stretch going in the right area so you might have to move the pose to really get it going for you. You don't have to use them both if you don't want to. Use whatever gives you the feeling of getting a deep stretch along the hip.

tflb - the effin little bastard.
It's hard to get a good stretch on it but I am noticing considerable tightness compared to the other side. What fun!
