I see from the results that you ran the JB yesterday. If my recollection in right it is not a PB but looks like decent time and a nice marker this early in your spring marathon cycle. Well done.

I hope you avoided standing on fallen tree branches this time ;)

Apologies E, ah nothing to be writing home about now, ran 18.41. It's 3rd time this year I've bettered my old 5k PB that stood going into start of year so I'm more than happy.

    Monday 28.11.16

20 mins Recovery, had our eldest with me for this so it's was slow one minute, flat out the next as he tore along on his bike. Just over two miles covered in the cold.

    Tuesday 29.11.16

    6 miles Easy@9.03min/mile in 55min 09secs

Can remember squat about this which I'll take as nothing bad happened anyway, I think it was cold again.

    Wednesday 30.11.16

    1E, 8x1min@5k(30sec rec), 1E

Done a longer warm up to get to a suitable quiet bit of road to get this done, there was a biting cold wind blowing but thankfully it was blowing crossways as I done this. Felt Easy doing these as it should I suppose seeing as it was only 1 min repeats. Now if I purposely tried I could not have done it but all 8 reps came in at 5.53min pace. I ran it by feel more than clock watching and paced it perfectly each time. Same cool down for 4.60 miles total.

    Thursday 1.12.16

    5 miles Easy@8.47min/miles in 43min 53secs

Out and back run along one of my usual routes, nothing at all to report really just another enjoyable trot in the cold. Love running in this weather.

    Friday 2.12.16

    Rest

    Saturday 3.12.16

    Jingle Bells 5k - 18.41

By no means a goal race, my missus spotted this one not long after doing Rathfarnham 5k so agreed to tag along with her. As the race approached she considered pulling out as training hadn't gone as well as she had hoped, but told her to run it, that it would stand to her in the long run & she would get a new coffee mug for work to show off. Got to Park at about 10am and we both set off on a warm up, waved to Murph_D, annapr, Ferris and the rest of the Murph crew as we warmed up. The missus peeked up a bit when she seen a bit of the route and the finish, quick kiss and I made my way to my starting point. Lined up 6-7 rows back, after a minutes silence for two Donore Harriers athletes that had passed on in 2016 the gun went.

Into my running quick enough, but as I approached the Papal Cross car park I felt a tightening in my left calf!! Breathing suddenly became heavy and the 'doubt' entered the head. I engaged with it for a minute or two, even thought of stepping off as we reached Chesterfield. Fook off 'doubt' your not ruining my first ever Jingle Bells and I ploughed on. Running side by side with a Sportsworld runner dispelled the 'doubt' for good. BinB shot past me on Chesterfield and we exchanged hellos and he sped off into the distance only to be seen again at the finish. Mile 1 clocked at 6.05, bang on target.

Into mile 2 and I pulled away from Sportsworld a bit and kept the head down running my own race, ignoring others. Turned onto Ordanace Survey and Sportsworld appeared on my shoulder again, more tooing and frowing, he had a strange habit of pulling across directly in front of me when he past, after a few occasions of this I got fed up, I don't think he was doing it on purpose it was just his way of racing. Mile 2 beeped at 6.06, ok a second slow but nothing lost. The fast finish awaited.

I opened the tank on the last mile as much as I could(road name escapes me) left Sportsworld for good and started picking off runners. Passing runners 2-3 at a time, seen dublin runner with half mile left and gave him a shout, he offered encouragement back. Looked at the watch, 5.55 pace, squeeze a few more secs out for last mile, 5.52 it beeped, turned left for the finish and mustered a sprint, wasn't pretty. 18.41 chip and I bent over the railings for a bit to compose myself. Walked on and collected my mug. Went back to the missus to encourage her, she ran 30.17 chip, 25 secs down on Rathfarnham. She's ran once in 4 weeks or so, she'll come again in spades, she has the bug now!!!!!

Quick chats with nop, TAFKAFD, gosh123, Ferris, Murph_D, annpr, dublin runner and BinB and his crew, one being a very proud young man with a new 5k PB. Missed loads of others by looks of log updates but we were tight for time. Race definitely lived up to the hype, bravo Donore Harriers. 8.30 miles all told for the day.

    Sunday 4.12.16

    10 miles Easy@9.04min/mile in 1hr 30mins 37secs

Had no other choice but to do this in Summerhill on my mile out and back section with the missus working. I knew it would be boring so decided that the Utd/Everton game would make it go faster, Christ how wrong I was. Shocking game to listen to and made the run twice as long, why would would EVER bring on Fellaini!!! Donkey and makes Kleberson and Djemba Djemba seem smart signings, nowhere near as tired as last week and enjoyed after the stiffness(easy) went in the legs.

Just over 36 miles for the week and a decent 5k, happy with that thank you.

Ha, I gave you the benefit of the doubt, the finish line of a hard run 5k is the last place for introductions! Will use the Boards name next time :)

Yes, thanks for asking. Still some intermittent pain during the week but OK now. Turns out it wasn't really the achilles, but some other bit. Magic Myles did some work on it on Monday and by Wednesday it felt a lot better.

Well done yesterday and well done to Mrs T, glad she's caught the bug! Our easy pace is probably around the same so if she ever wants some company on a weekend run :)

Well done on the 18:41, B. If I ever run that I'll certainly be writing home.
So you were allowed run your own race and Mrs tang1 was left to her own devices? Duly noted.

Sure will, there is a new start and finish to the race next year that hopefully will make it more aesthetically attractive. Finish line will be directly in front of the ruins of Trim Castle rather than the industrial estate the past two years. Route is exact same apart from that.
