Yeah people.dont understand after hours. Its not about discussion its about saying something you think is funny then returning to see if everybody else thought it was funny. Then curseing them all that they didnt find it funny because they have a vendetta against you and not your hilariously funny post. Then returning the next morning to see if any of the people found it funny at night time. Then curseing them again.
There is a forum for everything to discuss everything in.
This is really the section where you put a thread if you want it to get derailed I think.

There are many times where you would be proven wrong, even I am surprised sometimes. There can be great debate in issues where it won't fit in Politics or other forums (where charter calls for more sources for claims) or where users want the 'every man' view. It is hard to tell sometimes where to draw the line and take discussion to other forums.

Also look at the 'lets all laugh at depression' thread and the 'my wife is dying' threads, there are others where incredible support and thoughtfulness is shown.

Once a pun a time, no doubt.

Anytime I see pun on here, I imagine that very same poster sitting beside, nudging me in the ribs and giving me a really exaggerated wink.

Seriously though, I've been on boards for 8 years now and people have always been whinging about what AH should be or not be and it's still essentially the same.

I wouldn't say *each* forum, but there are some forums that have that feel to them allright.

There is no doubt there are a lot of forums with a core group of users and of course mini-communities develop, or cliques as they are referred to here.

But from what I have seen, a lot are welcoming to new users.

Boards is ok for an Irish perspective on topics.

    Reddit for an American perspective
I prefer reddit for niche forums because they'll generate more traffic

    Puns. Clumsy metaphors.

    Unexpected bedfellows.

....I wish to extend my sincere apologies to all Boards users, particularly those who frequently post in AH. I have not been posting as much lately and I know it's being causing a ripple throughout the online community as evident by this thread.

    However, boardsies. I'am omnipresent.....

I love you, MintAero. If you go then there's no point to any of this. I want to lick you like a lollipop.

It used to be better when there was blastings with pi55 and yor ma responses..because they were so overused it took great skill and wit to justify using them.....

    Are they really banned?

The long-standing contributors, (experts of course), give the impression that they "own" the forum and interlopers are really not welcome unless they tow the line and agree with their betters. This is especially true if the newcomer expresses a radical or non-conventional view; almost immediately the term 'troll' is trotted out.
Of course Boards will die eventually; every dog has its day. It will die because a new generation will see it as old and fuddy-duddy. Eventually, the only people on boards will be geriatrics and the main forums will be residential homes and the merits of complan.
In the meantime there is AH where at least we can have a bit of banter and cheeky humour. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I'd actually love a glass of complan now

    I can't dance that good :(

But then, I don't think I can ever bring myself to dance again. This anguish of unrequited love has killed my mojo.

Id say its got a lot to do with the mod gods...this is a place where people give their opinion...if they (the gods) agree with you, great, if not, sin bin or warning because "BOARDS IS NOT A DEMOCRACY"

Most of them are grand but there are definitely a few with god complexes

This site still punches very strongly for internet traffic and ranked 15th in Ireland compared to reddit.com 36th, journal.ie 46th and askaboutmoney.com failing miserably at 196th.

In the last 12 months boards.ie has climbed 382 places in the global internet charts to 5319th most popular global website (Alexa Pro), whilst by comparison Rte.ie has dropped over 1000 places to 6067th.

So to answer your question the site is not dying, boards must be doing something right, but everybody eventually gets bored with certain social forums as the topics become repetitive and users eventually move onto something else.

But with internet population growing, there are always more new entrants either lurking or posting, compared to those lapsed (or banned) members who do not frequent the site anymore.

Aw, pet. With a bit of effort, if we work together (and you do as you're told) we can turn your terror into love for me.

Well if ever anyone needed a reason to avoid this place there it is. Its the internet equivalent of the back of the bus on a third year school tour.
