    PW Wrester war!

We seen stables, tag teams, wee themes and even non wwe themes all go at it.

Now we shall have actual Wrestlers go at it, with a list of 256 wrestlers (some made it, some didnt)

It will be based more on who your favourite guy is more than their opinionated talent.

All couldnt be fitted in but Ive tried get 256 guys from past and present to go at it. Ive filled out 240 already, any suggestions for the other 128, send a message. Names can be removed from the list based on people ive forgot, ie if i missed Randy Savage and had Zack Ryder Id replace Ryder.

^^^ D'lo is already on the list, number 96.

However Shamrock is in there twice (109 & 246) and Steve Blackman isn't in there at all. Shenanigans!

Sorry Brian, meant to say that votes need a reason to count. Even just a line to say why you voted for said wrestlers.

    :)

This is going to be fun.

My vote goes to Sheamus and Shango.

Eddie is brill no doubt but I can't look past the only Irish born WWE champion ever. A guy that is "ours", a guy who only a few years ago was playing GAA halls nationwide, a guy who is arguably one of the finest big guys in recent years.

Wright. Every gimmick and angle he had I enjoyed. In terms of ring work he wasn't the absolutely train wreak some people make out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

The draw threw up a doozie in Eddie and Sheamus. I wouldnt be able to choose and Ill be sad who ever goes out. That being said it has to be Eddie who survives for me. Sheamus is a great ambassador for irish wrestler and im delighted to see him so high up in WWE. But Eddie is a legend. Though not my favourite wrestler, he trumps Sheamo in this round.

Papa Shango for me. He gave me the creeps as a young beakerjoe and from then til the 2002 gave me great entertainment in what ever gimmick he was given. Always had a soft spot for The Superme Fighting Mchine Kama too, had a great look.

Eddie and Charles Wright for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,491 ✭✭✭thebostoncrab

Eddie is a no brainer. One of the best all rounders of all time and brilliant on the mic. Sheamus, while a great brawler, is limited in too many other areas to even give this much though!

And Steve Blackman for me, I just enjoyed him a lot more than the Godfather/Papa Shango, even if it is thanks to the cult following he has here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,116 ✭✭✭Professional Griefer

Eddie in the first match. One of my favourite wrestlers ever, absolutely loved his Lie Cheat and Steal stuff. Him and Benoit at the end of wrestlemania celebrating with their titles is one of my favourite moments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

eddie in the first. Just so good at everything, in the ring, on the mic, one of the all time greats.

Godfather for me in the second, took multiple gimmicks and made them all work, extremely underrated worker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Eddie has knocked out sheamus, 1 more vote and Papa Shango beats Steve Blackman

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭mrkiscool2

Ah feck, Sheamo gone already. Deserved to lose to Eddie but would have beaten the last two easily.

Anyway, going with The Godfather here. Blackman was a very meh wrestler and didn't even sell his gimmick that well whereas Godfather really went for it each time and was a pretty good wrestler to boot!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Eddie and Carlie Wright pop into teh next round

Next up a few greats go at it.....

    vs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

I've tried to invest in the likes of Mitsuharu Misawa but I've never been a gigantic mark for Japanese hard men. Got to go for Booker. He had a very entertaining career. MIA was probably his only skid mark.

Ric Flair. It's only in recent years I've come to appreciate the guy. His promos were always something special and his WM match with HBK is one of my favs ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

I'm going with Booker T solely based on his version of singing HBK's theme song. I think that's the greatest thing to ever happen, not just in wrestling, but just ever.

Flair over Sandman is a no brainer. One of the best technicians ever against a garbage wrestler that is the definition of sloppy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Booker in the first, a great face and one of the main men in wcw. Leaving out that horrible King Booker storyline, always enjoyed him.

Flair, perhaps the greatest ever, whats not to like? great in the ring, got the look, got the mic skills.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,146 ✭✭✭Kankan14

Booker T as I always enjoyed his matches except during the invasion angle.

Flair easy too. Will go as one of the greats through every era

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 129 ✭✭Sin Eater

Booker T. Great on the mic, and an underrated worker. His run as King Booker was fantastic.

    and

Ric Flair. These two aren't anywhere near the same league. Sandman is good at what he does, but Flair is a master of all trades when it comes to wrestling. One of the best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

A clean sweep for both Booker and Ric as shockingly Miasaw goes out and is joined by ECWs drunkmadman

I'm gonna see Low Ki over Art Barr on account I've never seen Barr's work. I've seen Low Ki as Kaval and Senshi also and had always been impressed by him. His 3 way while dressed as a suit wearing Agent 47 in NJPW last year was savage.

In the second fight im backing Benoit. He's in my top 5 ever and just made everything look top notch. Rabid Wolverine for the win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭mrkiscool2

God damn it! First one is easy, Low Ki easily. Very talented wrestler, always love watching him.

The second is really annoying, because I have always enjoyed The King as a wrestler. But it has to be Benoit, one of the greatest of all time in the ring and should go very far in this tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,491 ✭✭✭thebostoncrab

Low Ki or Art...that's a tough one. I'm gonna go for Art just because with Low Ki his matches never made me become lost and forget that it's "not real".

Benoit easily, by far one of the best wrestlers of all time and should make it to the quarter finals at least

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,135 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Art Barr. While I don't deny that Low Ki was talented, his attitude pissed me off no end. Art Barr I've only seen a few things where he tagged with Eddie, but they were enjoyable matches.

Benoit, guy was one of the best technical wrestlers there ever was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Went with Art Barr myself. He could have easily been in the Eddie/Benoit bracket in terms of wrestling greatness had his life not been cut short. Low Ki is great in ring but he always came off as arrogant outside it. Never had the personality either IMO.

Lawler was one of the best in his prime and a great heel during his memphis days. His current character is one that takes the shine off him. Benoit is a great example of wrestling machine and was a true work horse. He never had a great promo delivery and the end of his life will always be one that takes the shine off his great career. Ill vote for Benoit.

Kaval/ Low Ki on 2 - Art Barr on 3

    and Benoit is already through

Low Ki, love his matches and ring work

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

I'll give it to Art Barr. Never liked Low-ki outside of his ringwork he's a bit of a dud (which was clear on his WWE run). Art had a gorgeous forg splash and it's a pity we never saw him and Eddie in the big leagues.

I'd also vote for Benoit. I judge him entirely on his career achievements as a wrestling fan don't even think about his final actions. The man clearly was mentally amiss. Anyways he had a stellar career and although I'm in the minority in the IWC I though he was a mat wrestler that made it entertaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Benoit and Art Barr, an under rated star, advance while Low Ki and Jerry Lawler, one of the best heels in the business go out.

Im a huge fan of Okada so he gets my vote. Hes fantastic to watch and Id love to see him wrestle more in america.

Michael Hayes gets my other vote. He, as one of the freebirds, was part of one of teh best factions ever and made being a heel so cool.

    Hayes and Okada for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,491 ✭✭✭thebostoncrab

My complaint with Davey is the same as Low Ki; his matches remind me that it's fake and takes the piss out of the wrestling at times. Okada is one of the very best in the world today, so it's an easy vote for him.

Bob Holly is ****. That's all I need to say :p

Rainmaker in Match 1. He's everybit as believable as Richards but so much more stylish, there's a reason he's always in top 5's. Has a great look too. Okada over Davey Richards.

I've never really seen much of PS Hayes to be quite honest. I really enjoyed Hardcore Holly as the Big Shot and as the tough as nails redneck. I've also just read his book and enjoyed it so I'm going with Holly over Hayes.

On yeah, Bob Holly is the greatest thing to ever happen to wrestling :P

I dislike Holly more than I should :D

Okada. I've watched a few matches of him and he's quite impressive. Also, similar to Low Ki, Richards attitude is fairly terrible, though it's almost impressive he's kept it up considering just how many bridges he's burnt.

Hayes I suppose, though I'm fairly indifferent to both. I think that second picture of him is what won me over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

Do have a bit of the Vince McMahon in me where at times I hate a shortasses. That's why I'll choose the rainmaker over DR.

Holly was decent but never anything special. Michael Hayes is a gob****e yeah but the Freebirds in every incarnation were the business.

JBL, all day long! Very good brawler, and great on the mic.

Road Dogg Jesse James over Seth Rollins. Rollins is great, but hasn't done enough to compare with the New Age Outlaws, Degeneration-x, and (to a slightly lesser extent) 3 Live Kru.

JBL, cause I don't really know the other guy.

Rollins cause I enjoy him more than Road Dogg, particularly of late.

JBL in a squash. A super WWE champ and a constant source of entertainment since quitting the ring.

Rollins. Hope the Shield members all go far. Have been central to all that's been good in recent years. So many "meh" periods in Road Dogg's career. All downhill from the fantastic NAOs.

JBL, cos he's a wrestling GAWWD!

and although I feel im probably wrong in doing so and biased because the here and now is so fresh - Rollins over James. The road dogg is great on the Mic but I believe in the Shield and in Rollins

Very odd match ups but that's what makes it enjoyable. For match 1 I'm a bit torn, I like Tanaka but I also enjoy Billy Gunn. Billy is actually my guilty pleasure wrestler so i'm gonna go with him. Plus I always found how to be very good in ring.

The second match im gonna vote for IRS. It's just a great gimmick and Mike could go. The fact he wrestled in a shirt and tie helps with my choice.

I'm gonna go for Billy Gunn i always thought he had a World title reign in him but it wasn't to be fantastic in NAO though, Tanaka i've ever seen one match of his and that was at One Night stand against mike awesome and it was great but can't pick him on one match

The other one im gonna go with IRS because his Money Inc team was awesome and always reminded me of Michael Douglas in Falling down, Tornado again ave never seen much of him

Although his singles run peaked with him "Billy Gunn-ing" his KOTR reign he was always exciting in the ring and had serious BEWP BEWPs.

IRS. Rotunda played the gimmick perfect. We had countless "wrestlers with occupations". IRS and The Undertaker were the only ones skillful enough to overcome being straddled with pretty naff gimmicks.
