I am not sure if they are the same brand or not but I got a number of pairs of those commando socks from a local camping store and I find them great, they are really comfortable and seem to last forever.

Never mind Grafton Street sell them but you have to ask staff to get them for you or there are all sizes available upstairs.

Their the same ones, I'v only bought the outdoor ones so cant comment on the shoe socks, I imagine their as good. Expencive though. Much handier to get the Pennies ones and bin em after a couple of wears. They don't stand up to washing well.

I also second M&S for socks. Good quality and cheap, like the other poster said, they're cheap enough to be disposable but the quality is still good enough that you aren't scrapping the barrel.

Are you saying you wear socks once then throw them away?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,008 ✭✭✭uch

I always buy 10 pairs of the same socks, then when I get a hole in a single sock, I throw it out and keep the god one, when I get down to about 4 pairs left I repeat the process. And I always buy Penneys socks, as has been said already, they are about 70cent a pair.

Yep, penny's socks aren't worth the bother of washing. Get decent socks and leave the penny's ones for occasional emergencies.

A likely story. We have our eye on you DazMarks:P

Buy the thicker work/boot socks. I find them more comfortable and they last forever*

    *may not actually last forever

Has anyone come across a decent work/casual rain jacket with a hood. Alot of them have none and it seems a bit pointless keeping yourself dry and getting your head wet! Its not always possible to carry an umbrella

Not to sound crazy in this post-recession flahulach era or anything, but do any of you guys consider repairing a holey (or unholy!) sock, instead of binning it?

It's just a needle and thread operation, handy to have around anyway for buttons that might pop off, or other small repairs.

By the time a sock developes holes it is usually way past its sell by date anyway so not usually worth the efoort of repairing. I have had the needle and thread out for suit buttons recently though.

I've noticed that the largest size sock in Penney's et al is usually an 11. So if you have larger feet the sock will be stretched and more prone to developing holes.

You can get larger sizes online on specialist sites but I've found that outdoor-shop\work-boot style socks are best. Not sure if they'd look well if you have to wear a suit to work though...

Penny's stock larger sizes in sports socks usually size 11-13 as I'm a size 13 myself. So have another look because I can get them in Carlow

I went to the gym before work yesterday. I packed my bag the night before and though I had packed everything. I hadn't...

I forgot to pack dark socks. So, I had to wear my white socks out of the gym and around a shop while I shopped for a new pair at 8 in the morning.

I bought a five pack. I'm going to bring them into work and put them there in case the same thing happens again. Thank God for that shop. Crisis averted.

Looking for a good leather jacket, biker type, something like this?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭Tefral

Right random one by me here.

Flying over to see Hans Zimmer in a concert tomorrow in London.

For those who dont know him hes the guy who scores all the music to the movies and it will be a classical concert as such.

My own question is would this entail wearing a suit? I'd be hoping not to if i could get away with it. Was more thinking along the lines of jeans, tee or shirt and a suit jacket.

I doubt it. I've been to a proper classical concert in the Royal Albert Hall and it was extremely casual.

A shirt and blazer would be perfect.

Looking around online for a no-frills grey pea coat or jacket for winter that won't break the bank. Anyone know of anywhere worth looking in Dublin?

    Well lads,

Bought a navy blue blazer, just wondering the best shirt colour to go for?

Going to wear it with a pair of jeans and either vans or brown boots
