There should be a dramatic and rapid increase in winds on the southwest coast over the next hour or so.

Is it just heavy showers are expected with this wind at this stage Maq?

Following the lull - the kind when you watch your elec and tele poles wobbling violently - it's just started picking up again here near Eyeries (West Cork). Howlin now. Expecting roaring in an hour or so.

Keep us up to date NUTS as you are in perfect location......or maybe not so perfect location!!

It's uncanny how similar the satellite image is right now compared to the one from Christmas Eve 1997.

What was the result of that storm?

Dublin City is lovely and sunny now....for the moment

I don't think it will be as severe as that for places north of munster and southern leinster though.

Kinsale Energy not reporting any wind gusts or wave heights for 10am, don't tell me we're after breaking another buoy

I'm on the coast outside Cork Harbour, savage gusts for the last few hours. I had to close a gate that had opened and needed to cling to the wall to the gate and back to the house to stay upright!!

Starting to pick up here again in Limerick City, Ennis Road area. Major crisis - A garden chair has blown over :D:D

Unfortunately it looks as if the worst here will be when the schools are coming out. And the schools near here are all surrounded by fabulous tall trees!!

Windy here in West Kerry all morning but the worst has hit us in the last 30 minutes - extreme winds, trees bending, howling noise outside and bits of branches, twigs etc flying around. Hope this doesnt keep up for too long -- and ironically the sun is trying to come out!

Can someone tell me Is the worst gone here in west limerick/North kerry??? nothing major or hasnt been all morning!?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

You can see the little circulation on visible satellite approaching the southwest coast. It's a perfect match for the the HIRLAM pressure charts on Met.ie

Very strong winds will be very shortly reaching the southwest coast. Winds could rise to hurricane force right along the exposed coast for a time.

    Edit : southwest, not northwest!

Freight train's picking up momentum now... Heavy rain from WNW, still blustery, but becoming more sustained. Lights flickering, so could be last update from Eyeries (Beara, West Cork)?

Severe windstorm is about to hit your area, within an hour, you are currently pretty much in the eye of the storm (actually it's just to your northwest but anyway expect a sharp increase in wind speed there very soon). When it hits, it will last most of the afternoon.

Wind really picking up here ...scary gusts from w/nw and its only the beginning ..

Munster a suitable shade of red on the Meteoalarm, just a pity the top alert level isnt blue, just to annoy them

Force 6 gusting Force 8 here on Dublin Bay at the moment, sustained from SSW, sending big waves onto the southern tip of Howth. The moderate rain of an hour ago has cleared to watery sunshine and light showers
