Should have taken the saddle off it. Then you'd know the thief was gay or female.

Bike thieves are a scourge in Dublin but my rule of thumb is, you don't have to make your bike impossible to steal you just have to make it harder to steal than the other bikes on the rack

On the very subject I am sitting here and a women has just pulled a bike from the back of her car for a fellow worker. For the love of god dont do that the scum will smash your car window and rob the bike. Dublin City Centre by the way.

Investing in a nice bicycle seems like a high risk venture if living in Dublin :(

someone should invent a gps tracker for bikes thats installed in the frame.

Remember that saying 'No bell on your bike but your knickers are (w)ringing'

I know it's only got a tenuous connection to your story but I always found it funny.

There should be supervised bicycle parking somewhere. Why haven't they thought of that? Would encourage more people to cycle into the city.

How many locks did you have?

Back in the day when my bike was my only means of quick free transport to college in Dublin city centre, I had 4 locks on my bike. I was laughed at by fellow students as a OTT paranoid nutter. Over about a 6 year period it turns out my bike was never touched and others had theirs regularly stolen. After I left college I used the same bike to work, it was never touched!!

Just make it harder for the thief and they'll move on to the next easiest bike to steal.

Have a look at this for tips on how to lock a bike...and dont use cheap locks!

cyclists are cycling to save money over driving, usually(any car>bike, if you're normal), therefore, "The Stinge" has infected their hearts. Paying to park?? You'd be lucky.

Go have a look in the street market known as 'The Hill' on Cumberland Street (between Parnell Street and Cathal Brugha Street) tomorrow morning.
If you don't see yours you'll see others.

They do indeed - in sweat, blood and tears, not to mention severe Lycra-rash and Saddle-gonad-norked Syndrome. Mere monetary payment has no comparison.

Drury Street has supervised bike parking. Still not unheard of to have bikes nicked from it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,440 ✭✭✭Stavros Murphy

Just buy another nicked bike op, for cheap, and consider it part of the great cycle of life.

It's better to do what the Dutch do, have a cheap old bike painted with mad colours and use a lock that usually costs more than the bike.

She robbed your bicycle, and she said it was a good ride, best ride she ever had. It must be some bike.

Exactly how do you 'throw in a river'?

It's a bit like throwing a grand on "Pretty Boy" in the 2:30 at Haydock, but you're putting a river on the bike to win the race to the bottom.

in December i was walking past Shanahans on the Green around 6pm and walked past a junkie pushing a bike, asking everyone he passed if they wanted to buy "his" bike.
He didn't seem to have any fear of the guards across the road. I guess it would be hard to prove it wasn't his

Or just nick one as and when you need it. Sort of a commune-cycle-ist. Like Dublin Bike without the fees..or the whole "we fixed the puncture for you" thing.
