Bike thieves are a scourge in Dublin but my rule of thumb is, you don't have to make your bike impossible to steal you just have to make it harder to steal than the other bikes on the rack

On the very subject I am sitting here and a women has just pulled a bike from the back of her car for a fellow worker. For the love of god dont do that the scum will smash your car window and rob the bike. Dublin City Centre by the way.

How many locks did you have?

Back in the day when my bike was my only means of quick free transport to college in Dublin city centre, I had 4 locks on my bike. I was laughed at by fellow students as a OTT paranoid nutter. Over about a 6 year period it turns out my bike was never touched and others had theirs regularly stolen. After I left college I used the same bike to work, it was never touched!!

Just make it harder for the thief and they'll move on to the next easiest bike to steal.
