Shannon Airport Police Fire Service to march in Boston Parade (Clare Herald)

The Shannon Airport Police Fire Service is this month set to make a nostalgic return for St. Patrick’s Day Parades in the US for the first time since September 1999.

Some 17 years after it last marched in the US for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, an 18 strong team of Police Fire Service from the airport will march in the second largest parade in the US, the Boston Parade on Sunday, March 20th.

It will provide a huge promotional opportunity for Shannon with a potential audience of millions.

Great idea, the red flag with Shannon’s logo looks good, though the front leading banner seems to be small in size?

Will this have any effect on jobs in ATC?

Stobart's service to EDI resumes in a week. Same day as JFK resumes for the summer.

Interestingly you can connect to both JFK and BOS from EDI through SNN, and it's almost always the cheapest option. Will it be popular?

    That goes without saying.

    That goes without saying.

There might still be about as many front-line jobs, I'd guess, but now they'll be in Dublin. For the moment, anyway; a few years down the line I'd guess there might be a lot of pilots in Irish skies being instructed to "do the needful" by the remote ATC... :pac:

Flights diverted to Shannon continue their journeys (Clare Herald)

Two flights diverted because of thick fog in the London area while operations at Heathrow were reduced to one runway following an earlier emergency.

BA flight 284 from San Francisco was north of Mayo when the crew was instructed to reroute and land at Shannon. The Boeing 747-400 landed shortly before 10.00am.

Flight 208 from Miami to Heathrow had already crossed the Welsh coast when it turned around. The Airbus A380 jet, the largest passenger jet in the world, landed in Shannon at 10.23am.

Passengers did not disembark but remained on board their flights until the aircraft were refuelled and the crews were cleared to continue to London.

Airline agrees not to use cut-price contracts on US flights (Irish Times)

Both Norwegian Air International and the aviation regulator have confirmed the airline has guaranteed not to hire crew on cut-price contracts to man transatlantic flights from the Republic and Europe.

The airline, an Irish-registered subsidiary of Norwegian Air Shuttle, wants to run services from Cork and Shannon to Boston as part of a plan to offer flights from Europe, the US and Far East from €300.

However, the US Department of Transportation has delayed granting the airline a licence, for two years, as unions and politicians there fear that it will hire Asian crews, so it can pay them far less than American and European staff.
The shipping industry has gone down this route and it seems no one can compete with the pittance wages paid to Asian seafarers.

Opodo seems to want a nice margin from the flights, "from €59 one-way" when Ryanair sell the flights sometimes as low as €20 or €30.

For those keeping track of diversions at Shannon, KLM flight 255 diverted on Saturday evening with a medical emergency.

Boeing 777-206(ER) PH-BQO. Landed at 19.46pm and departed at 21.00.

Sun Country B737-8FH N821SY landed at Shannon this evening.
Does anyone know if it was another medical, or a tech issue or other?

Could be scheduled, there not exactly unseen at SNN.
Think they do the US troops sometimes.

The CSO statistics for December are out.

The North American market grew by 2% in 2015.

Philadelphia rebounded well but Newark continues to slide.
