AAI and UL announce new postgrad module (Clare Herald)

Shannon based aviation training school Atlantic Aviation Institute (AAI), which is a subsidiary of Atlantic Aviation Group, and the University of Limerick (UL) has announced a new partnership which will see the launch of a new EASA Part 21 Design Engineering postgraduate module (accredited at Level 9, 6 ECTS).

The partnership of UL and the AAI (an EASA Part 147 organisation) brings together academic and regulatory bodies in delivering this module. Director of the AAI, Caoimhe O’Donnell described the partnership as exciting saying, “Atlantic Aviation Group’s Design Engineering organisation identified a gap in the market for a dedicated programme that would provide for the skills and knowledge to perform the role of a design engineer in the industry. We are delighted and excited to partner with UL to deliver this specialised module for Aviation professionals and graduates.”

    Comment:
It was a well run, organised and realistic event.

I wondered how they knew it was realistic ......

    :)

Today signifies the start of the summer season. Today Palma de Majorca resumes for the summer and over the next few days extra summer frequencies and routes will come into play.

This morning also marks Norwegians increase in capacity on their services. There was 5 scheduled passenger Transatlantic arrivals this morning, 2 Aer Lingus, 2 Norwegian and 1 United. That's more than I ever recall at this time of year since the Shannon Stopover ended.

Have Norwegian bookend for SNN —> Boston during the summer.

    Got an email saying:

“You’ll be flying a brand new Boeing 737 MAX – same size and quality as on our European flights.”

They then proceeded to tell me to bring a movie on my tablet.

Do the Boeing 737 Max out of SNN not have back of seat inflight displays?

    No, they don't.

Also, I think you mean Shannon-Providence.

I do. TF Green is actually the same travel time for me as Logan would be to my final destination in Boston area.

no seatback display but they have wifi on board. I flew Shannon to Stewart a while back, they had in flight entertainment available via your personal device over wifi. unfortunately nobody could connect not the way over so it is probably best to be prepared. no problems on the way back

You are aware why your flight was so cheap? You know you're not getting any free grub either?

You are aware there are three ticket types? LowFare+ and Flex include a meal.

Work now happening on arrival hall bar and restaurant.

I also imagine they'll do the baggage hall revamp right in the middle of summer......

It wouldn't be Shannon if they didn't insist on doing works at the height of summer.

Thanks, Have done out an estimate of seats gained and lost for 2018. (?) indicated a rough estimate. All seats are rounded to the nearest thousand.

    Seats Gained:
    Bristol: 17,000(17May-25Oct)
    Liverpool:23,000(19May-25thOct)
    Philadeplhia:10,000(Begins a month earlier(04Apr))
    Manchester:16,000(2x additional flights a week (22May-24Oct))
    Provedince & Newburgh: 81,000(New for Jan-March, 7X flights/wk End of march-July 1st. 3x new flights July-October)
    Toronto:23,000(2June-8October)
    TOTAL:170,000

    Seats Lost:
    Newark:34,000(January-11March,October 27th-25th November)
Zurich:1,000(?)(Cut by around a month, dont have exact dates)
    Stockholm:4,000(August-October
    Berlin SXF:9,000(Jan-March)
NewYork JFK: 7,000(Aircraft cut from 767-757)
French Charters: 2,000(?)(Ran during the summer months, dates and flights were all over the place)
Chicago: 35,000(End of May-Beginning of October
    TOTAL:92,000

Expected gain for 2018 is around 78,000 providing all bums are on seats.(1,829,500)

Seats for the new Barcelona service between March and October were not counted as it was a direct replacement to SXF, Seats for the norwegian routes are calculated providing they do not increase during the winter. If they do, that will add 21,000 seats to this years programme bringing this years expected gain to 99,000(ish). Also expect Lufthansa figures to rise this year. Bookings looking good with 1 or 2 flights already sold out in May. Feel free to point out any inconsistencies in these stats if any arise.

    Ryanair summer seasonal peaks:

Lanzarote 2nd flight running a full season (Ran JUN-SEP last year) , Alicantes extra gains a month, however Malaga loses it's 2 extra rotations for June and July. Overall it's a loss.
