Carnacalla, I see that you have re-invented yourself!!!

Whatever about 2017, let us be concerned about finishing 2016 first.

    I have.

Why so? Should we not discuss next year for the airport? After all it is rather close and this is the time of year for route announcements.

Is FRA a good centre for onward connections to Asia & Australia? If it is, then it's a great alternative to travelling to Dublin and onwards with Emirates, or even via LHR for that matter.

Asia yes, Australia I'm afraid not, still a little far away.

The Saturday timing is fairly restrictive, but hopefully the service will be increased.

Good news. Had the pleasure of flying with them a few months ago. They are a great airline.

Together with the recent SAS announcement, good news for inbound tourism.

Neil Pakey commenting on the post on Shannon Airport's facebook, stating how the airport came very close to securing the service last year, and how the new team has proved the doubters wrong.

The missing Stansted statistics have been uploaded today.

August sees a +11.5% increase in UK passengers and at least a +5.8% increase for September. :)

Cargo jet makes emergency landing at Shannon (Clare Herald)

A flight has made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport tonight after the crew reported technical problems immediately after take-off.

Swiftair flight 2939, a regular cargo service from Shannon for Leipzig in Germany, departed at 8.45pm but almost immediately after departure the crew declared a May Day.

There were just three crew members on board and its understood they experienced a complete lost of cockpit instruments after take-off.

Airport fire and rescue crews were alerted and placed on standing close to the runway ahead of the flights return.

Two units of the local authority fire service from Shannon Town were also mobilised to the airport.

The Boeing 737-400 jet landed safely about 10 minutes after departure.

Flight continued its journey at 10.45pm.

SMBC Capital Aviation spent €8.5m with Irish aerospace firms (Irish Times)

Irish aircraft lessor SMBC Capital Aviation spent about €8.5 million with local aerospace companies which it hired over the last year to prepare aircraft it was switching to new airlines.

Chief executive Peter Barrett said that during the six-month period, a number of its craft came off lease and it moved them to new clients, including Korean low-cost operators Jeju Air and T’Way Air.

It used Irish companies Dublin Aerospace and Eirtech in Dublin and Shannon to modify the crafts’ interiors and repaint and rebrand them before they were passed to their new airlines.

Global Karate Championships Announced (Limerick Leader)

THE JAPAN Karate Association’s global championships will be held in Limerick next year, attracting over 5,000 people to UL and generating an economic boost of up to €2.5m in the process.

The University will host the championships from August 1 to 20 next year.

Corkman, Sensai Noel Casey and head instructor for JKA Ireland acted as the Irish Ambassador and led the bid to attract this global event to Ireland.

With his involvement, Ireland had successfully hosted the European JKA Championships earlier this year in Dublin. Based on this success, and with the supports provided at regional and national level through Fáilte Ireland, University Limerick, Shannon Airport and the Shannon Sports & Convention Bureau, it was possible to prepare a compelling bid for this event in 2017 to outclass Norway, Brazil and Dubai.
