The wait for the results is killing me. I sat my last one in Dec (again) and I really couldn't call the result. I heard that last year the finalists could tell in the week before the results if they'd passed or not based on whether exam entry was open to them. My portal all looks the same. I'll be gutted if I don't get it this time after getting 49% in Dec

They're out on a Saturday this year which is a bit different. It's going to be a boozy weekend either way!

Oh I know how your feeling but I am waiting on results after doing p1 p2 and p3. Really hope ill get two of them anyway cause I hope to get finished altogether this year!

After these I'm done. I am never sitting another exam again

I have completed F1-F9 and P1 and awaiting my exam results for P3. If I pass P3, I am looking to do 2 of either P4, P5 and/or P7 and do P2 later. Can I do this? I know you have to complete P1-P3 before sitting the 2 option papaers but if I pay the exam fee for P2 and 1 option paper, would that be sufficient? ?I really want to leave P2 until the very end and am willing to pay exam fee for P2. I hated F7 and seeing as P2 is seen as a continuation of this I really eant to wnsure that I have a clear schedule and good run at it so would like to leave it until the very end.

One more thing what do people think of P4 and P5. I am torn between which of these papers I would sit with P7. I liked F9 so is P4 seen as a continuation of this? Any help would be good.

    Thanks.

This is absolute torture, put all my eggs in one basket and did P6 & P7 together. I feel like one hand is on the prize ........ if I don't get it ...... Every time the exams come around I feel like I have to put my life on hold, and to be honest it has been on hold long enough.
Besides if I have to tell my family that I have more exams to do they'll have a fit! They have been incredibly supportive up to now, but that only lasts so long.

Delaying P2 will only reduce your retention of some F7 knowledge which is a bad start. I think it would make more sense to do it next rather than in another 6/12 months time. You wouldn't be wasting exam fees also. There is no reason you can't have a 'clear schedule' just because there's further exams left. Concentrate on just P2 if necessary to get it over and done with.

You should take a look at the option paper pass rates also before assuming you'll be able to pass these quickly which is implied by your post.

I was exempt from F9 and found P4 very tough. Technical and very time constrained exam. With a good lecturer and plenty of study I got it first time round. If you enjoyed F9, then go for it. I found P5 easier because of my area of work so it clicked with me quickly. Again time constrained but less technical. Take a look through the syllabuses to see what might suit/you'd find interesting.

A large part of P7 is knowledge of the accounting standards which you'll learn in P2 -so to sit P7 before sitting (or at least doing the material of) P2 is not a good idea at all.

    I think doing P2 & P7 together makes sense.

Ok what about F4 or F5? Which of these subjects would you recommend? I liked F9 and not so much F5.

Up to yesterday it said on the main page that i'd completed 13 out of 14 exams and my PER progress

That's been removed completely and so has my exam status and results. I also don't have any option to enter exams or update my PER.

Is yours any different? I've been driving myself crazy stalking my acca portal!

Mines the same. The ACCA email earlier in the week said this would happen on the 31st.

    Hello,

Is anyone here able to register for exams for June 2014?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 548 ✭✭✭paulers06

No, still have Dec '13 exam docket showing. I think that's standard practice though until results come out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 ilarnapairc

Thanks for that. I thought there might of been something wrong with not been able to use the register exam function.

Like everyone else i'm eagerly awaiting my result for P5. However i'm not anyway optimistic. I did lectures with Michael Barry In Independent Colleges and In class he was great and you knew what he was talking about.. The problem i had was with his notes which were all just buzz words and when i went to study for the exam they didn't really give you a whole pile bar just learning off the models etc and then have a go at questions..

The problem i'm having is, when i went to sit the exam i felt like i didn't have a really good idea of how to do the question, Like in December the CSF question for question 1.. I did it all but i found myself at times thinking i'm writing complete nonsense and panicking going i'm not going to pass this and i'm being truthful when i say i won't pass it.

Like learning all the theory which i knew was fine but it doesn't really give you any form of preparation for the exam itself. I understand the concept of it and using examples relating to the case study etc and thinking outside the box with other examples. Usually an area like this i would be comfortable in but doing this subject i felt i was completely at odds with the P5 paper..

It was the same when practicing questions although i must say now i didn't do to many as i possibly got bogged down on learning the theory inside out which was pretty useless come the exam..

i guess the question i'm trying to ask is: Is this subject as hard as i make it out to be inside my head or is it really a matter of just doing question based revision all the time.. For example in Audit if you didn't do anything bar do every exam question from the book you will find a pattern forming and i'd be pretty sure you will pass the exam.. What i want to know is it the same for P5 or is it far more complex than that...

Reason being i previously sat P4 and i knew after a few weeks in that class it wasnt for me but sat the exam anyway.. Moved onto P5 the last time and now i'm a little bit panicked as i just want to finish.. P6 was a paper i always wanted to do as Tax and the financial papers were always my strongest points but the horror stories relating to P6 put me off and also the sense from people who went before me that p5 with work is easily doable got inside my head which means learned the theory did a few questions and felt ah ill waffle through that..

Just looking for other peoples opinions on P5 such as what im doing wrong and do people recommend other areas of outside reading eg. newspapers etc i could take up for P5..

Reason im reluctant to go do P6 is going back doing all the college work and then having a nightmare exam which can clearly happen in Tax..

I think it's dangerous to get carried away with the "reputations" of the options subjects. If you look at the pass rates for each of them, they all range between 31% & 35% each sitting -that's whats important, not the idea that a certain paper is easy.

My own opinion is that the ACCA exams are all about exam technique & practice under exam conditions. You could know every detail in the textbook but if you can't translate that into a good answer in the required timeframe then you're going to struggle.

All things being equal the best advice is to persevere with P5, hopefully you shock yourself and pass from December.
As was pointed out the option papers have generally the lowest pass rates and they are all about exam approach.
A lot of students fail at an Option paper a number of times and need to keep repeating it. If you are unsuccessful from December you should stick with P5 for at least one more attempt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭Emperor1989

On P5 just looking at the exam solution’s and marking scheme I notice they gave 5 marks for the tunnel vision discussion on the performance pyramid.
I don’t think I mentioned anything about that and that is 5 marks I cannot afford to lose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 179 ✭✭JaneeMack

I wouldn't say P5 was easy but it is definitely a passable paper. I think you need to put a lot of practice and past exam paper questions to pass. I did it with Mick Bristowe in Independent and as much help as I found him, I did a lot of questions myself prior to the exam.

It's my first time sitting an ACCA exam having switched from ACA so I'm not sure what to expect. I only sat P2 but I made a balls of it. I knew inside in the exam it wasn't going well.

Even though I'm pretty sure I failed I'm still holding out hope of seeing 50%.

I've opted to receive my results via text based on people's past experience how early or late do you tend to get that reply?

They're sending this link around on opentuition. Supposedly if your default you're a finalist and your default group says ACCA then you passed. There are some other groups like ACCA_students and ACCA_qualification_student

They're all gone nuts on that forum. They're reading into every little detail as if it's a sign that they passed or not

So unlucky, I know the feeling...

Folks who did P1, can it be done by self-study as I think it's mostly theory, Am I right in saying that?

Also who do you think is good for P2? I studied F7 in Griffith and think Reg callanan wasn't too bad...Also they record the lectures...so even If you miss them, you can catch them later...
