Was it necessary for them to suck it three times? Are you Chris Brown?

This game has been brilliant so far. I've played about 4 - 5 hours worth and I've found the pacing to be great in it.

    Going from
LV-426, to getting rid of the alien, to fighting/hiding from humans and then androids and some simple puzzles along the way
. It's kept the whole experience quite fresh so far.

Only thing I'm worried by is the "false" endings. I can imagine that will get pretty frustrating after a while. For now, looking forward to playing some more tomorrow.

got a good bit in tonight chapter 10 was so hard probly the longest chapter for me so far anyone else like that?? the end of chapter 10 was awesome though

how many chapters are there in total is it
    18

I have the crew expendable dlc how long does that last roughly and do I get to play as ripley on that I got the nostromo edition??

im loving the game I was suprised to pickup a
shotgun/magnum and to see the ship thing they land on in the first movie

glad I stay away from in depth game news lately because it pays when you know less about the game sometimes they release too much info IMO

There's no way I could play this game with a headset / lights off combo :o

Oh ya.. tough out! :) That's the only way it should be played... add the Oculus for perfection I imagine.

Anyway I don't know what more to say on Alien.. I wouldn't necessarily say it's getting better but I'm loving every minute of it. It just feels so fresh.

I'm after completing the fifteenth chapter there so I might even finish it tomorrow although Wednesday is more likely.

I assume I hit a bug at the beginning of the next chapter as it didn't give me any objective so I just went off searching the whole area. Then hopped in one of the transits and finally I was told I was going the wrong way. Odd one.

Making slow progress on it due to being knackered at night or being away, the only way I'm able to play it though is with a headset and a dim lamp in the corner since it's the HTPC in the sitting room so I'm constantly shìtting myself.

I'll have to try the Oculus but I'll need some dutch courage on that one.

It's true about the androids, they're terrifying bastards.

Yeah I was all bravado on here a week ago "I'll be getting this with my new XO Fours laaaaads" fecking stroking the ego off myself.

Seen one video with the androids and I said fook that.

Played it last night, it pretty much the second half of the originally Alien movie. Probably only an hour or so of gameplay, small map to play in but plenty of characters to use. Quite fun to play.

Just played a couple of hours of this over the weekend. Got to the point where you have the first meeting with the Alien. I rambled over to the lift, pressed the button. Lift takes ages. C'mooon FFS! Music ramps up. Straight lift from the end of Aliens! Then I walked into the lift and looked out into the room waiting for the door to close. Basically all I saw was a shimmering movement in the darkness. Next thing, it closes the distance and lands in the lift with me in a split second. Game over man.

This is going to be a tough game!

Since Xtravision went into receivership, I'd imagine certain suppliers won't want to deal with them.

Gonna get back to this game tonight. Got stuck a little bit last time I played it.

I love that death scene I imagine that would be really freaky on the rift.

Its great how they made the xeno something to be fearfull off again the creature is terrifying when you think about what it can do but over the years the crappy games and crappy VS sequels lost that aspect to it but here they regained it big time.

I think im coming upto the end now iv enjoyed the hell out of the game and will replay it again maybe on normal for that one though LOL im glad theres more to the game than simply being chased ,run and hide, press switch run hide which is what outlast did for every chapter I know outlast is an indie game so im not gonna bash it because I love it

but aliens item crafting and limited weapon useage are all done to perfection I think

as for the length issue its probley 2 chapters longer than it should be I think but its not a major issue hardly worth docking points for a review IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,299 ✭✭✭PixelTrawler

Its not really freaky on the rift, it gets old fast. It looks impressive enough with the drool rolling down as you look up at him.

yeah I know the death scenes get old fast hes such a bastard that alien:D
he was at his worst for me on chapter 10:mad:

I'm not sure what chapter I'm on but yeah hes killed me plenty!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

Well it looks like I've hit a major glitch in the game.

As I said int he last post I got no objective marker.. now I do and I've moved to the area.

When I get there the elevator door in front of me eventually just disappears and and can't use the left analog stick to look around.. it just doesn't work anymore.

Apparently it's linked to saving in the chapter before so I have to go back and play that to progress :(

    Just finished it great game

    end spoilers
the quicktime event ending was lame though they could have made more of a fight thing outta that instead of look left right then X

the ending of chapter 10 was alot more epic with the spaceship rolling around in some ways I wish that was the end of the game

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

    Just finished it myself too.

On the whole I thought it was excellent and would highly recommend to any Alien fan.

I understand the criticism regarding the false endings however I would say that's really only dedicated to the last chapter.

    As for the ending itself,
it's pretty disappointing. Probably the most disappointing aspect of the game. It would have been nice to have some closure for Ripley's sake but who knows.. maybe she'll find herself in another poor situation :)
Also, I really loved that whole nest section just because I didn't really expect it for some reason. Motion sensor going crazy, facehuggers etc. Just so good.

I was surprised after seeing the nest that we didn't see a Queen somewhere else in the game.

I'll probably play through survivor and the Nostromo dlc tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,930 ✭✭✭Paleface

Are people playing this on the PS3 or PS4?

I'm just curious if there's much of a difference in graphics between the two?

I thought I'd do a video review over written cause it be quicker.

nope it's over an hour long so I think that shows how difficult it has been for me to express my love for this game.

I'm tempted to go back and test some things

do androids follow you into vents? I know the alien can. But it would be funny to see androids crawling in after me.

no I'll poop myself if they keep chasing me in the vent while on fire.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

No they don't. They even say they won't go into the vent after you :P

I assumed when I got the Nostromo edition, I got both the crew and last survivor dlc but it seems you only get the crew expendables. Bit annoyed with that.

Going to have a go of survivor mode and leave it there for a while.

Edit: Ah.. I see you need the Ripley edition for that. Screw that anyway.

Regarding the crew expendables (I'll spoiler this even though it's in the Alien movie)
Going through the vents is terrifying.. surprised something liked that wasn't in the main game.

Jesus... The Alien seems to be a lot more observant in survivor mode. Just seemed to notice me in areas where it wouldn't have on hard during the main game.

That level is really scary too with a lot of background noise etc.

I just presumed Survivor mode was just a very hard version of hard mode.
Didn't know things like the background noises were different.

Someone give me some opinions here. So I chose hard as that's what the game advised.... I'm now barely into the game and struggling even to get past a room.
The one where you pick up the door tuner thingy waaaay right at the start of the game.
So I've figured out how to bypass the room at last but died like 50 bajillion times doing it. Seeing as I'm so close to the start does the game just gets worse? Am I better sucking it up, calling myself an old man and restarting on normal? Or are these... puzzle/stealth rooms only every once in a while?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

I'm not saying they are different. It's just that there is an awful lot of things happening in that level. Gas pipes bursting, small flame explosions etc. Just adds to the atmosphere.

I was only able to lock the stairwell. Had no idea where the other things were.

Still cracking away at hard mode, god I love this game. Defo top 5 all time for me with a doubt! How long are people taking to finish the campaign?

I was stuck for ages here too and was considering dropping the settings have now completed the game on the hardest setting.

This is when the game first really tests you and shows how to go about things so naturally your gonna die ALOT on the hardest setting

But youll pick up the swing of the game and how it operates When you meet the alien again prepare to die alot but youl soon learn his patterns and when its safe to leg it lol

I only started the other day. I was turning it off before I even met an android nevermind an alien.

My first combat encounter with a working joe went wrong "DIE!!... **** these don't die like Ash in the film.. RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!"

I love how the advance FTL ships and spacestation looks like it is run by commodore 64s like the movie :D

Loving this game so far, the developers have done a great job in creating not only the alien itself but also the authentic environments as well.

The one thing I have encountered that spoils the tension a little however is seeing weapons suspended in mid-air over some dead bodies but I consider this a minor gripe compared to the game's overall quality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Have only been able to play bits and pieces of this game at a time but got some proper play in at the weekend, loving each moment as it goes on and time just flies playing it. It's full of nope and it's an unforgiving game but, by gum, I'm enjoying it.

    Finished the
    Derelict
section so looking forward to continuing on tonight.

They really did nail the Alien universe vibe, from the environment, the music, the sound effects, the graphics, the androids with that specific creepy English accent that seems part and parcel with the Alien movies, and the Xenomorph itself who's finally scary again after so many years of shít movies and games.

That IGN reviewer really did whinge about nothing, Hard is the best setting to play this on as you truly feel utterly helpless and that relief you get when you reach and successfully make a save point.

The GF thought the game didn't look fun because it looked like I spent all my time in lockers :pac:

    Started playing this last night.
At start up it prompted something about using the camera, so I plugged it in.

Playing away and got to the part where you have to sneak past
a group of four by disabling a generator
    .

At the same time, my OH was making chips and no matter how quiet I was, they were always facing the door - waiting for me.

Took a while to connect the two, but was definitely a cool feature.

I'm surprised at how well the game has been received here. Feel like getting it now.
Is the general consensus that IGN were way off the ball on this one?
Anyone know what score it got in Edge?

The general consensus is that IGN are always off the ball. And relying on a score is a pretty bad way to judge whether or not you'll like this game, or any game, really.

IGN is full of it. Have been for some time now. All they did with their mediocre review is push more people to be vocal in their "WFT IGN?! This is great!" reviews.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

Again I think people just overdo it with the whole reviews.

It's an opinion. You either agree or disagree. If they had given it a very high score there would have been people saying the publisher bought the review. Everyone seems to pick on certain review sites but if you look back they are all generally around the same review score mark.

Find a few people you generally agree with and you'll have a pretty good idea if you will like the game.

Can I just go nuts fist pumping the air like a giddy motherf*cker?

One of the subplots/story strands/background details? I both liked and disliked in the full game where the logs you pick up, its become traditional fps fodder, but in isolation some of them were annoying because they sounded really interesting but it was clear you were never going to cross these people. You'd hope you might but it was not to be

    but now

    http://www.pcgamer.com/alien-isolation-corporate-lockdown-dlc-announced/?ns_campaign=article-feed&ns_mchannel=ref&ns_source=steam&ns_linkname=0&ns_fee=0
So far, the base game of Alien: Isolation is proving to be all the crippling terror I need. Eventually, though, I'll emerge from my locker, and make my way through the game. And then? Well, there'll be more game. Creative Assembly has announced 'Corporate Lockdown'; Isolation's first add-on content. It will add three new maps for the game's survivor mode—each expanding the Sevastopol's story.
"In ‘Corporate Lockdown’, Seegson Executive Ransome has learnt that he has been abandoned by his paymasters," explains the press release. "Knowing that the Torrens is on the way, he decides to make his escape and hitch a ride on board, taking decoded Nostromo data with him. However, while escaping he wants to tie up a few loose ends."
In addition to the maps, the add-on will introduce Gauntlet mode—challenging players to complete all three Survivor challenges back-to-back without dying.
Back to the locker, then. Corporate Lockdown is due out 28 October, costing £5.59 / $8. It'll be followed by four subsequent packs.

it's the awesome of survivor mode

+ filling in story details of the game especially
ransome cause I wasnt sure where his story ended, the last log I picked up from him was somewhere near Apollo Core where he went on a rant against Seegson, so even though it's only survivor maps, I hope they fill in where he dies. Also if it is in those sections, then it's areas where we previously had not dealt with the alien

    + newish gamemode

    Yes!!!!!!!!

And so soon, it's out next weekend. I'm happy.

I really like the base game so more of the same appeals to me :D

Starting playing this last night, and the sound design is absolutely fantastic. Such creep music throughout. Really enjoying it, but by god it's hard (on hard). It should be, but still. Had my neck snapped by an android after i tried to bash in his head...guess there's no stealth kills like i'm used to.

Yes, the sound is fantastic. The way they ratchet up the tension with superb use of music is incredible. I've been in parts of the game where I know that aside from the music, I would just be tootling around the level, but as it is, Im crouched in a corner with my heart doing 90! :D
