The Kilkenny role definitely appears like he' not doing as much as he could. As a minor and u21 he was a sharpshooter, the guy could kick points off either foot once he got a yard. He looked like Bernard Brogan but at underage level, I was waiting for him to be our next top corner forward. Now he's looking sideways when he gets inside the 30. I hope he goes back to the scoring half forward he was last season.

I've been scratching my head for some time with his role. I would love to see some stats, did he even attempt a shot on Saturday. Depsite being in advanced positions a fair few times, shooting didn't even seem like a consideration.

Well it didn't take long for the subject of funding to raise its head. Ewan McKenna has said that the GAA have handed Dublin AI's, bit of a kick in the ballbag for the players who bust a gut to win one. Bitterness is alive an well, no more so from Mr Lillywhite himself. I am not going to give him the space here by linking his article, but we are now akin to the Germans and he is a mind reader as he knows how every Dublin suppoeter is thinking.

    Impartial journalism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't see him shoot. Hopefully with McCaffery back it will be the case that he's not needed in the halfback line.

He has a lot of talent was it 2 or 3 points he scored against Mayo in 2012.

He's been dropping shots short since he came back, obviously a big no no for a counterattack.
    Maybe his confidence is gone.
Things is if we never heard of him and he was named as a halfback we'd probably be delighted with him.

But he needs to lead the new generation of forwards for me.

Not complaining, merely pointing out some of the hypocrisy being spouted especially from some in the media.

Vaughan tried to hit Dermo a shoulder and was put on his arse. He then tripped him while on the ground and started the pulling and the dragging when he got up.

Both O'Connor's must have a genetic disposition to falling over, poor sods. Seems that if a butterfly flaps it's wings in Japan an O'Connor will fall over Croke Park. COC would be my nomination for biggest whinger of the year.

ID be saying Connolly is the biggest whinger for trying to get keegan sent off, I agree though that Cillian does a lot of giving out to the refs, nearly as bad a Donaghey

How did O' Connor escape a booking after his coming together Small btw? Vaughan, Connolly and Small got booked but not a word said to him.

You'd think refs would be itching to book him given his incessant complaining. Seems to work for him.

what I saw in this one was small dragging O'connor down and not letting him back but, thats why I think there was no reason to give O'connor a card

Yeah I've a feeling that the 1 shot I can remember him having fell into the goalies hands .... it sets me wondering whether he was carrying a groin injury this year with his overall reluctance to shoot and then when doing so dropping them short (bit like Flynn last year)

Had to check 12 and it was 0-3 but he's still fresh in my memory from last year's Semi. 0-3 in the first game and 0-2 in the replay... but more than the points, he was a massive headache.

There were definitely times in the first half in particular when he had relatively easy kicks but opted to pass it on. The slight injury story might make sense. Other than that, it's like he has had a brain transplant.

You need to take another look so. Until I see a replay I couldn't tell you how they got to the ground but once there its clear as day O'Connor doesn't want Small back on his feet. Pulls him down twice as he's trying to get up.

Sure he deserved a yellow for thumping the ground like a child anyway.

I remember Kilkenny last year, especially the 2 games against Mayo, himself and Andrews carrying us through to the final. Both hit 3 or 4 points from play when Bernard and Connolly weren't performing. I thought he was perfect in that scoring half forward role, it was easily his best season for us. He's been useful this season but we're limiting him.

Didn't he play well in the league final. Seem to remember him giving Fitzgerald a tough time.

No doubting his quality but why does he kick so many shots into the keepers hands? That's what I wanna know.;)

Ah, not even Dublin, with all their home town refs in their back pockets, would be able to turn fouling the ground itself into a cardable offence. Maybe it should go on our To Do list for next year? Perhaps all of our former players should arrange another media campaign to take care of it? ;)

Still, it was mad to see their captain, the man who should be setting an example to others, acting like a spoilt child on Christmas morning, who asked Santy for Barbie's Dream House, but got a set of encyclopedias instead. CO'C is a bit like Donaghy for me. I find it very hard to judge the incidents he is involved in, on their own merits. There is so much playacting and diving going on & constant yapping to the ref, it's damm near impossible to form an accurate impression of what just happened.

We've a few talkative lads of our own. There is no denying that. In last years drawn semi, we had several frees moved up to a more scorable distance because Jonny Cooper couldn't shut his pie hole, but it's something that forwards rarely seem to get dinged for.

I've never seen Donaghy do that in all fairness, I couldn't see him act like that.

Folks I'm looking for a bit of info on some of the backroom lads here if anyone knows who they are and what they do.

    Back row, from left (2, 5, 6)
Front row, from left (4, 10)

    Cheers lads!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,569 ✭✭✭✭ProudDUB

I never said Donaghy did that same specific thing. I meant it more in the general sense. There is so much....let's be diplomatic here and call it carrying on ( ) with him, that it is hard to look at each individual incident, purely on its own merits. I'm the first to admit that we have a few tulips of our own, who won't be winning any Choirboy Of The Year Awards any time soon. But they get called out on it. O'Connor rarely does. That is my point.

They're the lads who nick all the cash from the other counties and deliver it to John Costello's mansion's big Scrooge McDuckian Vault.

Speaking of John Costello, anyone see the video of young Cormac taking the piss out of his Da on Twitter? It's very funny. Imagine that carry on down in Cork, with someone slagging off their Glorious Leader For Life? They'd be lynched !

You can probably cross the above 2 out as being members of the backroom team. They're not in uniform.

If Front Row (10) is Gavins father.... you think he could have sorted him out with a new jacket.

How's the weather in Brazil, Spewan? Be careful of those moskeeters.

Kilkenny either runs forward with the ball or handpasses forward, very little goes lateral or backwards. He does present himself to receive recycled ball an awful lot which is incredibly important for a team and he then goes forward with it. (I do admit he doesn't kick it anymore)

Dublin GAA is seriously underfunded. How many kids inside the two canals need to travel 30 - 40 mins by foot til they get to any sort of a grass pitch or green space that they can kick or puck a ball (50,000?). I think the Phoenix Park and The Irish National War Memorial Park are the only two areas inside the canals.

I can't post links so I just put a space between the first w and the second w. I thought it would be easy to work out but there ya go!
Also there seems to be a common theme amongst Dub supporters when this issue comes up. They try to laugh it off, I think this quote sums it up!

It's not always the tears that measure the pain, sometimes it's the smile we fake.
