The difficulty with following up FOTY with another great year might be a little bit impacted by the fact that the FOTY always (?) comes from the team that wins the AI and it's quite hard to win back to back All-Irelands in football. So a team might have a great year, win the AI and have one of their players pick up FOTY, but then the following year the whole team may struggle to maintain the form that brought them the AI the previous year, for whatever reason.

Edit: Out of curiosity, has a player ever won FOTY twice in a row?

Doubt it. Its a sort of once off tribute isn't it? Shefflin won HOTY twice but a good few years apart.

No. I think a couple of players have won it twice, but never back to back.

On the bolded part, I see where you are coming from. But no one is expecting the FOTY, who usually comes from the AI winner, to be on the team who wins the AI the following year. Back to back AI wins are just too rare for that to happen.

I'm just talking about their having another good year. It doesn't necessarily need to be one worthy of winning FOTY again, just a year that they can look back on and be happy about their individual performance, regardless of how their county did in the AI champo. Other than Berno in 2011, I don't think that any of the recent winners can say that. They've either had injury woes, or had a dramatic loss of form.

Philly seems to think that it's from players pushing themselves too hard in their FOTY winning year. He's been around 3 recent winners (I left out Jack Mc) in both their FOTY winning year and the following one. So I suppose he'd know more about it than most. I think it's an interesting dynamic.

Yeah, my point was kind of what Philly was getting at. Teams push hard in the years they win the AI (with FOTY then coming from that team), but it can be hard to maintain good form for another year, for whatever reason, be it through it being physically too demanding (which could account for injuries) or just a lack of appetite for it or what have you. I guess my point was just that a FOTY not having a great follow-up year might be a small part of what is a bigger picture with most teams who win an AI one year and then struggle to carry the form over into another year - it's too demanding, lack of motivation, etc. After all, to be on the AI winning team and win FOTY, you'd have to have had an exceptional year. Summing up the energy and motivation to have another one straight after is probably tough enough, both for teams as a whole and individuals.

Giving a brutal prospect weather wise this evening, it's sorta has me wendying on SFC tonight. Was thinking of dropping into PP for the double header but on 2nd thoughts I'll leave it be. The men from Finglas will be hard pushed to get the scoreboard ticking against Vins .. it's a 16 point spread on the handicap and I'm guessing it won't make pretty reading at FT. 2nd game at least should have a bit of a competitive edge to it, I'd say Thomas Davis will come out the far side 3-6 points better.

If I'm budging this evening it'll be upto St. Margarets for Raheny/St. Marys, expecting a comfortable enough evening for Raheny - will be interesting to see if Fenton plays whether he'll be in the HF line, also whether that tank of a young lad Paddy O'Higgins is still there in midfield - the likes of Ivory and Real showed some prospects at underage too.

Match of the night is over the far side Judes and Cuala .. really a tough call but should see some good standard of play

    First round?

    Nice and early that.

Yep. The players are back with their clubs for the next 3 weeks. We'll get two rounds of the club champo in, before the summer inter county break. Our club champo is straight knock out, with no back door. So by the time the club champo resumes when the Dub's season is over, the 32 senior teams will be whittled down to 8 & we'll already be at the QF stage. It's a fairly tidy set up, compared to a lot of other counties. Jim Gavin is one of the more club friendly managers out there.

Heading to PP tomorrow. Not up for it two nights in a row either. There was snow on the Dublin mountains yesterday. And May only a couple of days away. I want to cry. :(

I'm in the same boat - plus the Inter champo is starting the weekend too, so it'll be 3 nights in a row for me ... hence my reluctance to travel tonight. Mrs Doc is just back from schools footie and she's telling me the wind destroyed the match, they're the worst matches of all when that happens. Jaysis I nearly forgot my young fella is playing Féile the weekend too so tonight is defo out for me.......

He will be giving it one almighty effort with Plunketts this year I'd imagine. Watching Boden winning the AI must have been hard to take given how close Plunketts have come to winning Dublin in last while.
He will have to give it another effort next year.

Looks like a new Jersey is being released next week, anyone hear or see anything about it?

Yeah. I was out in the O'Neill's shop on the Longmile Rd shop last Thursday. They said the new jersey would be out in 3 weeks. It's going to be a lighter shade of blue than the current one.

Is the current one on the cheap?

EDIT: had a look at the sale section on the website. I'll nip over to Walkinstown tomorrow.

It has a collar and paler blue colour. I reckon that it could be something like this one:

Personally I like the sky blue with navy look we have had. I guess I will just have to see how the new look turns out.

Hmm, I kinda liked the ill-fated 2009 jersey, which had more white than most previous or following ones. Of course, it was the last Arnotts sponsorship, and tragically for them it was followed subsequently by the most successful period in Dublin senior GAA history, not to mention the fact it will always be associated with the utter humiliation of august 2009.

I wonder if bringing out the new jersey so late in the year, is a sign that AIG are going to stay on as sponsor, once the original 3 year deal expires in October 2016? The Dublin Co Board, would hardly be going to all the trouble of launching a new jersey now, if they have to go through it all again, at the end of the year, with another new sponsor.

I would be thinking the opposite that they are trying to maximise the revenue stream. I don't like the precedent of it though. I like the 3 year cycles of jerseys.

That last Arnotts shirt was a horror-show. Hated the assymetrical nature of it. I don't mind more white and in fact I like the odea of flitting the co,our scheme to the old days (Heffos playing days) every so often.

Ideally though we'd bring out a replica of the 1995 (or any of our 1988-1995 shirts)

I just buy the retro ones or stick with my 2005 ones which are now retro!

I don't like any logo/non-arnotts logo on the Dubs Jersey. Looks wrong to me!

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

A relative of mine from the sticks starting referring to Dublin as the sacred hearts when we had that red vodafone logo :o

The boss shelled out €60 a couple of christmas' ago for the AIG polo shirt for me .. it kills her to see me head off to Croker in my Arnotts one each Summer .. I'm guessing it's 10 years old at this stage ..

I actually really like the current strip. Probably my favourite Dubs jersey to date. Love that shade of blue.
