Im talking about Dublin anyway, I don't even know where Roscommon is wink.png I presume PD got lost in translation & thought I was a Rossie eek.png

    Oh My God ! eek.pngeek.pngeek.png

    I am SO sorry.

I am going to go into a small, dark room (the Roscommon trophy room, perhaps?) and have a good, long, hard, look at myself.

Yes. Well, I suggest you call up and point that out to the boys :)

They have a hurling team now, and someone from the club wrote a book.

And there are still people who question Darwin's theory of evolution ...

Drawing a picture on the wall of a cave, showing one of the lads from the tribe killing a bison with his bare hands, doesn't technically qualify as writing a book. But hey, it's (almost) Meath, so who knows?

Roscommon V Dublin should be a great game. The two best teams in the county right now,ylch.;/vf going head to head.

The Mayo game will be a nice warm up game to work off the Paddys day pints

The Mayo Roscommon banter is about to kick off!!!

Forget Donegal and Kerry, there'll be skin and hair flying when they meet!

I'm tempted to get involved but its a bit like a married couple fighting.

My UPC contract finishes on Friday I'll have to make other arrangements to record it .

I would have said they are more like two aul wans, arguing over who pays for the afternoon tea, in that lovely hotel that the Nolans have done up....

"Yes, you know, the Nolans, he's big in sucklers and she's one of the McGillacuddy Nolans, you know the undertakers from Boyle, the ones with sign that says 'When you're dead to us, you're dead to everyone.' Yes, very clever, isn't it? Didn't the youngest Nolan lad study some sort of fancy business course above up in Dublin. Terrible place altogether. But shure aren't the Dubs all very clever with their fancy marketing ideas, all the same. Marketing, I ask you, have you ever heard the like?

Anyway, they've turned the old family pig shed barn into a lovely hotel and, shure haven't they done just lovely things with the curtains, very mod-rin altogether. Shure, you can hardly smell the pigs anymore, or the air of crushing desperation at all, at all. Now put your money away Maura, don't make me hit you with a shovel now Maura......you know, I will if I have to...."

You know, that kind of conversation, in that kind of hotel.

    No Connolly, im glad tbh.
Needs a boot up the hole!

Interesting to see how Lowndes does today, seen him in the flesh - he's very good.

Interesting to see Lowndes being given the pivotal 6 jersey after his previous run at wing back, in fairness he's got to be doing something to have earned Gavins faith in him (hope he has a solid game). DC being rested isn't the worst decision given his current tendency to take too much out of the ball running into tackles. Looks like an inside line of Kev Mc and Bernard with Costello coming out deeper - I'd say Paddy Andrews will have some miles on the clock after tonight

It hinges on whether Dublin can defend the tall ball into Murphy. Hopefully they can do a better job of it then they did against Cork.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

    Interesting no 6 alright.
I'd like to see Nelson and Devereux get time, Daly too. Good motivated opposition coming up particularly mayo.

    Kilkenny getting a break too.

I'd like to see Mannion and Costello start together

That's presuming that MM plays in the forward line. Not a given these days. If he plays as deep as he did against against Kerry, God only knows who'll be picking him up.

I'd be surprised if that was Donegals ploy from the get go. More likely to see Murphy out the field with a greater focus on the match up of Byrne on McBrearty during the early stages. A far greater concern for me would be Donegals carrying of the ball thru the likes of MacNiallais and McHugh, I know we prevailed in last years game but there were signs that type of movement was still a major headache for us

Absolutely - the likes of Daly & Kevin O'Brien are solid dependable defenders - using them would free up McCarthy & McMahon into experimental roles further up the pitch - in fact I'd go as far to say that McCarthy should be playing midfield for us

Daragh Nelson? From Ballyboden? He hasn't been on the panel for years. I can't see him being added to it now, just because Boden had a good year. Gavin doesn't seem to fancy him at all. Deveraux seems to have dropped off the panel completely too. Don't think I've seen him since last years league.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,952 ✭✭✭✭Stoner

Devereux was on the panel a couple of times in the championship last year, I think he may have even came on for a game possibly against Kildare. I could be wrong though

Has it been that long since Nelson was on the panel ?

So assuming I'm wrong and Nelson is not in the running, I'd still like to see our other good defenders getting a run now more than ever, Devereux is very fast, he's no McCaffery as a scoring threat but imo he breaks out of defence as well as most, he's big too I'd rather see him in the half back line than messing around with Cooper or Fitzsimmons in there. Cooper for me is a very good corner back and should concentrate on that position. Fitzsimmons is a corner back too but with Rory gone he's our best option at 3 imo.

Having read Docs post I'd throw O'brien in that mix too.

Yep. I think at this stage of the year, if you're not already on the panel, you won't be on it now. Exceptions obviously, for lads who are rehabbing injuries, or MDMA who is coming back from club duty. You can't compare MDMA to Nelson. MDMA is coming back to the panel. Nelson was never on it.

Would an exception not be two defenders leaving the panel mid season.

Not being thick but I've no idea if Deveraux is fit or was injured etc. He was involved last year. O'Gara has been injured I think he'll come back in, but if we lost two defenders would it not be reasonable to bring one or two in.
We've at least three more league games left no to make the most of

I would've liked to have seen Robbie McDaid being introduced from the BB contingent - Basquel would appear to be learning the ropes in the 21's this year, Con O'Callaghan is still a live option with the seniors once the 21's are finished - rather strange that McHughs star seems to have waned quite a bit from this time last year.

Edit .. Jaysis it's going to be one of those evenings weather wise isn't it ..........:(

Two good footballers alright, Fenton will require them to keep an eye on him though too.

I'm not expecting Bastic to play the full game, would expect to see S Carthy get a run he might have more in the tank to track back.
If he popped over a couple of points in these next two games he'd do wonders for his chances in the summer imo.
Looks like SB Carthy has jumped ahead of Reddin .

Not arguing with any of that at all, except that Jim Gavin has known about Rory heading away since before Xmas. So I presume he has been looking at options to replace him, since the squad reconvened in January. We don't know what has been going on in training. But going just by the O'B Cup and league games so far, it looks like Davy Byrne, John Small, Carthy, Lownes & Mick Fitz are in pole position to plug the holes left by Rory's & Jacks absences. I can't really see someone who hasn't featured in any of our 8 games so far, all of a sudden making a push to the front...not unless he is an established starter, who has been away for a reason. Nicky D isn't.
