The likes of Yaya could easily be rested tomorrow as a precaution despite being passed fit & available.

Things change very quickly in this game, have your transfers marked out before activating the wildcard and see if the points hit is worth using it.

    EDIT

I already did Walcott to Ozil myself

    I'm mulling over a 12 point hit

    Rooney -> Negredo
    Cabaye -> Lallana
    Chico -> Mertesacker

I'm in a similar position Rory in terms of the dilemma.

I've been holding onto my wildcard with the intention of using it to work Aguero back into the team. But I took an 8 point hit this week, and now with Rooney out for possibly 2 GWs I think he needs to go. So it's either 12 point hit or else activate the wildcard and wipe out the previous 8, then worry about Aguero when he's back.

You've taken an 8 point hit and want to activate your wildcard?

Lads, go walk the dog or do something to clear your heads before ye do something ye might regret! :D

    EDIT

Does activating the wildcard wipe out previous points hits that GW?

yes it wipes out the hit its a no brainer to play the wildcard for necrominicon in that case IMO.

Yeah, I've been leaning that way. Done. Rooney --> Negredo.

Have to disagree! Personally I think you're crazy to do a 12 point hit instead of using the wildcard. I really just don't think it's worth that much. Even if you're considering an 8 point hit, unless there is some big reason you are waiting then it's not worth it imo. Aguero is a reason, but look at City's fixtures! Waiting for him to get fit is not worth a 12 point hit.

I agree I think its mad to take more than a 4 pt hit when we are in a wildcard period.
Ive played my wildcard and kept the money back for aguero. Once you have a plan for getting in aguero with the maximum of a 4 pt hit its a non issue.

I can beat that! Had Mignolet like you and brought in McGregor during my WC as my sub keeper to take advantage of the good rotation between Liverpool & Hull. First game I had planned on using him for was GW10 as they faced Sunderland and Liverpool faced Arsenal. Of course he goes and gets injured before the game and Hull keep a clean sheet! Worse still, owners of 'non-playing sub keeper' Harper got ridiculously lucky and bagged 8 points from someone who shouldn't even have been on the pitch! Then I subbed out Mignolet for Howard as Liverpool couldn't keep a clean sheet to save their life, and Everton looked solid at the back. Liverpool faced Spurs away and Everton faced mis-firing Fulham at home. Yep, clean sheet for Mig, nothing for Howard. And Mig has since kept another clean sheet while Howard has pulled in a massive 6 points in 5 games.

The final straw in this goalkeeper horror story - I held on to McGregor until he went off injured against United in GW18. The same week Howard got sent off for me... so I was facing no goalkeeper. All reports said McGregor was highly unlikely to make it back for GW19, so I brought in Mannone at a -4 point hit so I could at least field a keeper. Yep, McGregor plays and keeps a clean sheet and Mannone concedes! I can look back at plenty of moves I've done this season (not getting Ramsey for one...) and say it was bad decision making, but the above is just an example of how luck can f**k you over in this game! Luckily a huge number of people stuck with Mig so it's only cost me about 15 points. If I was in the same position again I'd make the exact same transfers.

I'll be dumping Howard in the WC for Marshall - two cheap keepers is the way to go! I won't expect clean sheets from them so any are a bonus...

Haha you're gonna love this! The one part of my story I omitted for exaggerated dramatic effect was that Harper played for me in gw10. So you can definitely beat my tale of woe. I did get stung by him in gw19 though when I was confident he'd play and keep a clean sheet and then McGregor made his miraculous recovery, though if im honest I probably wouldn't have taken a hit if I knew Harper wasn't gonna play.

Like you say, I would make all the same decisions again, just a stinking run of luck

Where has this talk of Sunderland looking to sign a keeper come from? Im trying to decide if i should opt for Speroni instead of Mannone, Mannone is a better option if he keeps playing, but Speroni is guaranteed his place as far as I can see.

Poyet has confirmed he wants to sign Mariano Andujar. I'd hold off of mannone in case this deal goes through

Was just about to ask the same but dont want to double him up with saurez. Think it is a good call for those without saurez

They should get Suarez. Actually no. Build a time machine, go back in time and buy Suarez then, sit here smugly for months and tell those without Suarez to buy him at whatever cost.

Ade's been scoring with a mediocre attacking force but is not at all a reliable option, negredo hasn't with the best attack force in the prem. They're both risks, but ade will definitely start whereas negredo may not.
Me, I shipped negredo out for welbeck so he'll likely start and score a hattrick on sunday :P

I would be shocked if anyone still active doesn't have Suarez...in fact I would go as far as to say that the % of people who have chosen Suarez is representative of how many people are still active in the FPL.

Yeah but I'm in danger of not even being in the race if this week goes tits up!

I've already made Walcott -> Ozil, and would have to get rid of Rooney at a hit. Even after that, I would be forced into playing three players that I really don't want to play. I would expect to fall further behind after this week because my main rival has wildcarded. I'm scared of the likes of Yaya, Ade, Lallana etc. On top of this, I will lose £0.2/£0.3m by not wildcarding tonight. And I havent really lost much by waiting either. Of the players that have risen already, we have Yaya and Lallana that I want, and possible Rodriguea/Eriksen. Not like I've missed the boat!

Weigh that up against holding on to the wildcard - is it worth a possible 20 points? I don't think so! I woke up this morning not even considering using it, now with Rooney injured and Yaya likely to play I'm about 80% sure I'll be hitting the button tonight.

You may not value my opinion but here goes....

50 or 60 points is nothing this early in the season. We're at game number 21 of 38. There's plenty of time to go.

Part of your downfall last year IMO was playing your wildcard too early. You couldn't wait to play it in January and wasted it. You were left with a squad where you spent the rest of the season taking hits.

You need to make up points on your opponent. Play it tonight and you'll just be bringing in the same players as him. Play it in three weeks and at least you'll have a chance to go for something different.

Plus you'll have had the benefit of seeing his.

I also expect Cabaye to play this weekend tbh. I'm alot more sure about him than I am Yaya.

I know it was Cup and West Ham were the opposition but Negredo did score a fantastic hat trick only a couple of nights ago(1 assist also), it strikes me he's a player in good form right now, he'll definitely start, I'd rather him than welbeck

Planed transfers have had a huge spanner thrown in the works. Had only planned to bring in Lallana tonight in place of Cabaye, now one of my planned transfers for next weeks WC, Adebayor, is due a rise tonight.

Wanted to cut back on the four point hits, and as I was already up to .3 mil short on next weeks transfers, this rise tonight could see up up to .4 short.

Dont want to take the hit, as every point seems to count when your placed around the 800k mark, but then dont want to miss out on signings.

    Arrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh. Ideas please.

I think this is very good advice. I see several people panicking and thinking of wildcarding the night before the GW deadline. I know there have been set back, but if there was no WC you'd probably have to play a 2 pointer off your bench and get on with it.

I messed up my transfer this week, and then lost 2 mainstays to injury, I'm going to take -4 even though I really didn't want to, prob to get Ade for Rooney, and start Huddlestone v Chelsea.

I think I'll be glad I did rather than WC in a panic.

Love the Fr Ted gif though! :D

I'm going to pray Cabaye plays and unleash Jordan Mutch (hopefully he plays) versus West Ham.

I actually have a decent hope of some return if he plays.

Madness to play it now with the January transfer window open too. Three weeks left for teams to make some moves.

Jelavic to Hull is already a decent move gone through.

I've talked myself out of any wildcarding nonsense (wasn't difficult really), decided to captain Suarez and have decided to keep Rooney in the hope he's back fit rearing to go from next weekend on. Only CL distractions now too :(.

With that in mind and knowing I want Ozil next week for Arteta I have 6.7 to spend on ditching Ravel. That rules out a plethora of options such as Lallana, Cabaye, Erikson and Dempsey for one week only to name a few. So naturally I've come to the great white hope which is Adnan Januzaj at 5.1.

I don't really see any other options but I'm open to a one week punt option for 6.7 or less if ye have any?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

Ward, Adebayor and Lallana all go up tonight - this is only adding to the list of reasons to wildcard. Been mulling it over for the last few hours and think its a go. I just can't see a situation where doing it in a few weeks will be more beneficial than doing it now.
    • I'll have to take a 4 point hit
    • Two other players I want will rise, meaning I can't afford the team I want
    • I'll be forced to play 3 players who I expect to score no more than 2 points.
    • I'm scared of not having Yaya, Adebayor or Lallana this week.
    • After those three there's no one left that scares me. Giroud, Eriksen, Oscar, Silva and Rodriguez could all perform over the next two weeks, but I think long term I want to have a front 7 of Yaya, Ozil, Hazard, Lallana/Ramsey, Adebayor, Suarez, Aguero.

Cue Nasri scoring and Howard saving a pen...

I have this sneaking suspicion that west ham wanted out of both cups to focus on the prem...lets not forget they also lost 5-0 to nottingham forest. Anyway, bar west ham he's not been in that good form, and certainly nowhere near welbeck.

    Here's Negredo's last 5 GW scores: 6, 5, 9, 1, 1
    Here's Wellbeck's last 5 GW scores: 12, 11, 2, 8, 7

But hey, it's a topsy turvy game, he could do very well on sunday, he could also do ****e, and there's every chance he comes on as a sub rather than starting as Man City have so many options.

It's the Mirror, but I'm hopeful this means Yaya starts

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-city-team-news-yaya-3008400

It's a tough away game and with Chelsea and Arsenal both likely to win City can't afford to rest their best player.

Just noticed the yellow flags lifted from Yaya and Cabaye. The transfer that I have been considering the last couple of days has now changed from Bannan out, Lallana in, which I have enough money to do, any reason why I should not do this?

The Adebayor transfer conundrum also remains though.

Vey hapy with my team. -4 but have a dilemma whether to start Rooney, not sure who to leave out!

    Hazard --- Sterling -- Nasri --- Erikson --- Ozil

    Rooney -- Lukaku -- Suarez

Should I leave Rooney on the bench or sacrifice a midfielder and chance starting him?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 7,430 Mod ✭✭✭✭pleasant Co.

He's confirmed out, so why start him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

Went off playing football for an hour, came back and read up on the opinions floating about since and I'm going to resist temptation on my WC.

Rooney -> Negredo (-4) at least. I'll have £3.6m in the bank is the only problem

I was always wildcarding early as I wanted to change most of my players, and my strategy.I made short term moves over xmas as I knew Id be wildcarding early.
I understand if teams are in good shape waiting till the end. However, if your not happy with 5 + players in your squad and there are 2-3 players you know you want long term , I dont get why people would wait. There has never been too many transfers that become must haves in this window. Chelsea signing a striker, mata going to a PL team, utd signing an exciting attacking midfielder would interest me but no guarantee it will happen. Looking at last years window sturridge attracted a bit of interest as did chris samba and demba ba( neither worked out), remy, coutinho and sissokho were popular later on in the season at times but from memory that was more or less it. If you need aguero/ramsey when fit just transfer them in 4 pt hit if neccessary.

Indeed I do, although someone quoted it so I have seen it. Hasn't changed my mind, different situation to last season.

The only negative I can see is not being able to see my rival's team and act upon that, but I get the feeling our teams will be quite different.

Played WC there, just didnt see the value in waiting had too many non starters and no subs on bench.

    Team now reads
    Mannone
    Coleman Sagna Clyne
    Countinho Januzaj Yaya Hazzard
    Ade Suarez(C) Lukaka

Do I pick Suarez or Ade or Lukaka as captain?

Think I've done enough damage to my team this gameweek

    Walcott > Ozil
    Chico > Mertesacker
    Rooney > Negredo

8 point hit. 2 are injured & Chico's returns have been horrendous since he scored at Hull

Only things putting me off is City's replay midweek and his away form. Hasn't scored away from home since gameweek 2. Although that did coincide with City's poor away form. Which they seem to be in the process of correcting lately. 11 goals in the last 4 away games.

Palace were great away from home against City. Kinda fear a Spurs blank or a 1-0.
