My only real goal for the year is to finish Comrades in and around my target time from last year namely ~8:15. Weather on the day will play a big part as I found to my cost!

Apart from that I'd like to go under 4h at the Doneda 50k in Feb and perhaps knock a few mins for the Conn ultra in April.

Bit wishy washy I know :)

Missed the big goal by ~12 mins last weekend :(

Ah well win some, lose some.

I've decided to add a new challenge for the Autumn and try nipping under three hours in the Frankfurt marathon. Most of July is being spent on holidays so don't have a huge window to try and whip myself in shape.

My first posting on boards.ie, I've been lurking on the Athletics subforum for a few months now and have been inspired by some of the dedicated runners here! I've been running on-and-off for about 10 years (always at the same pace), and in the last year I've decided to try and get a bit faster. My PBs are 1:54:15 for HM (Nov 2013), 53:05 for 10k (Apr 2012) and 23:58 for 5k (August 2013).

    Goals for 2014:

    1. Go to interval training most weeks.
    2. sub 23min 5k.
    3. sub 50min 10k (aiming for the Great Ireland 10k in April).
    4. sub 1:45 HM (not sure when, will first aim to break 1:50 in April/May).

OK ... after 6 months of less than perfect training (including a month and half of no running back in March/April) finally finally finally some progress today at the Fingal 10K - 49:02. It was a nice cloudy day, and the flat course helped. A 4minute pb for me, though it's over 2 years since I did a 10k race so I haven't been contesting it too strongly!

If I'm feeling strong in a couple of weeks I'll put in a late entry for the Haddington half-marathon (south of Edinburgh) for 9th August. The "race-equivalent" online calculators suggest that a sub 1:50 might be possible and I have been doing some good long-runs lately :-)

Very impressed with the speedy 2014 progress of SamForMayo and other posters with similar goal-times.

Only 1 goal this year, and only 1 shot at it.

    - run 220 km in the 24 hrs to achieve the IAAF B standard and qualify for the Championships

Good God, it's been a long time since I've written those words. Having one single shot at a very lofty target is generally not the recipe for success, but sometimes the stars just happen to align.

    225.271k/139.977 miles

I do not have the words to describe what it felt like when I crossed the line for 220k.

Goal 1 done! Mini Marathon yesterday and official time 59min43seconds. I just scraped it, but its still sub 60 so happy for now!

I've kept up the 2-4 runs per week since I started, in fact the minimum per week has been 3 so happy with that too. Have signed up for the half marathon now and am up to 16km non stop running so feeling confident about goal 2!
Want to start getting a bit more serious about my running this year. Have done a good few 10k races over the years letting my fitness levels go up and down but never sticking with it long term to achieve any goals so making this year the one I actually do it.

Goal 1: Sub 60 minutes 10k (hoping to get this in the womans mini marathon in June - my PB is 61 mins but the last 10k I ran i was at 76mins)

Goal 2: Complete my first half marathon (looking at the Galway Bay half in October for this)

Goal 3: Run 2-4 times a week every week for the year. (aiming for 4 runs most weeks but taking into account that I may not be perfect, I want a minimum of 2 runs each week)

I am a bit daunted by the concept of a half marathon, my longest run is 10k but I am determined!

Goal 2 in complete. I did my first half marathon on saturday in 2hrs 15 minutes, 15 mins faster than I was aiming. I wanted to do it in under 2 and a half hours so delighted with it. Gonna start looking for my next half marathon to sign up for!

    All done :)

New goals for the rest of the year:

    10k - Sub 37
10 Mile - Sub 62 (I may not run this distance though so it's the least important)
    HM - Sub 1:23
Marathon - Sub 3 (Main goal)

    Forgot all about these.

Got them all apart from the 10k (37:07! :(). Not sure if I'll get to have a go at that again by the end of 2014, but we'll see.
    A good year nonetheless :)

Ah going on find a 10 km and do it! Cause we know with the way you are going you would hit the target!

    1. Get back running again... starting tonight. I haven't been for a run since August so it won't be pretty.
    2. Tuam 8K the weekend after next, that's depending how tonight's run goes.
    3. Get a 10k under my belt in Feb or March. Preferably under an hour but I'd rather work on distance.
    4. Connemara half.
    5. DCM.

    1. Done.
    2. Didn't enter it, can't remember what my excuse was.
    3. Kinvara Rock & Roll 10k, 1st March - 66 minutes.
    4. Didn't do this, thought I'd registered when I hadn't... I've done 3 HMs since though. Planning to run it next year.
    5. Done

Goal for the rest of 2014 is to beat that 60 minutes for 10k.

Happy to report I made the bonus goal last Sunday week in Frankfurt, that's definitely it for '14 now anyway!

Time to think about '15 I guess :)

    last year's goals
36.xx in the national 10k (Great Ireland Run)
Sub-80 in the national half (Rock and Roll Dublin?)
Sub 2.50 in the Dublin city marathon

Didn't run any of those races, didn't run a 10k or a marathon at all
1.22 in Bohermeen was on the right track anyway.

Sub 60 in the Frank Duffy 10
Sub-80 half marathon (probably the Dublin half)
    Sub 2.50 DCM

    Another year of failure :pac:

    2. 33:xx 10k
    3. 1:14 Half
    4. Sub 2:35 marathon
    5. Complete the big-10 challenge.

Not sure if I'll manage to tick any of them off, but it's good to think big.
    1. 15:xx 5k - Yep!
    2. 33:xx 10k - Yep!
    3. 1:14 Half - Nope. Injury put paid to my opportunity to race properly.
    4. Sub 2:35 marathon - Nope. Missed it by 4 seconds.
    5. Complete the big-10 challenge. - Nope, missed it by 2/10ths of a second.

A pretty solid year and came damn close to hitting most of my targets.

    Goals for 2014

    5k under 19 mins (current PB 19.37)

    5 mile/8k under 30 mins (current PB 33+)

    10k under 40 mins (current PB 41.33)

10 mile under 65 mins (current PB 69.55)

Half Marathon under 90 mins (current PB 91.30)

Marathon under 3.30 (to be done)

Not sure yet about the marathon time. I would need to up my LSR mileage and see how my body reacts.
The 10 mile is probably overly ambitious and I may not have too many opportunities to do them.

Currently doing 4 runs per week plus 1/2 swims.

I might as well update this. I have got all the goals except the 5 and 10 miler. I haven't had enough opportunities to do those type of races. I might do a 5 miler in the new year. If I improved the training I reckon I could get under 30 mins. The 10 mile target is out of reach for the moment.

This year I want to do more races, did very few last year, also to commit to core work 3 times a week instead of 5 times 1 week and none the next!
    10 km -46.58
    5km-22.38
    HM-1.43.40
    No marathon
Mission accomplished:D The core work is still come a day, going a day though:o

    5. Come up with a mindset and schedule that allows me to peak a few times in the year for races rather than smashing out training sessions in the lead up to races and feeling on top of the world only to find the tank not quite as full on race day. (summary-train sensibly)

    1. 5k 17 check
    2. 8k 29:27 check
    3. 10k 36:55 check
    4. Half 1:28:-- no or not even close but pb nonetheless
    5. No. Spent my usual 10-12 weeks out injured or unwell. Pneumonia in april Achilles issues in may and June mumps in November!
Happy enough with the year overall. Pbs at all distances.

    1. Sub 3.10 marathon
    2. Sub 90 min half
    3. Sub 40 min 10K
    4. Sub 20 min 5K
    5. Do more to prevent injury.
Thanks for saving me a bit of typing, these would be mine too.

Hit 2-4 handily enough (88:18 half, 39.01 10k and 19.01 5K), well off on the two marathon attempts though. Tried to run 3:10 in Cork, did the first half in 93 mins  the last ten miles were a predictable funeral march. Decided to be more conservative in Chicago later in the year, aimed for 3:15 and ran 3:18:33. Wasn't too disappointed with that. Since Chicago I've started training with a club, i'm looking forward to hopefully improving times next year as a result of better, smarter training.

    1. Sub 3.10 marathon
    2. Sub 90 min half
    3. Sub 40 min 10K
    4. Sub 20 min 5K
    5. Do more to prevent injury.

    1. Blew up to 3.39 in Dublin
    2. A pair of 1.21.47 runs
    3. 37.27
    4. 17.55

    5. Can't say I've done a whole pile more but I missed only a handful of days all year with slight strains / more than niggles.

All in all it's been a good year.

Run the 3.65k loop of the lake without stopping - completed.
    Do a 5k without stopping - completed.
    Do a 10k - completed.
    Do a Duathlon - completed.
Do a half marathon - incomplete.
Drop my average pace to 4:30 - completed.

Too many injuries to ever get my distance beyond 12k so I came nowhere near doing the half. It's been passed over to my 2015 list of goals.

    2. Sub 50 10k - got closer, took 1 minute off my best but still at 52.30 (only attempted one and that was in April)
    3. Sub 24 5k - no attempts but hit 24.38 in training
    4. Sub 2.00 half marathon - no attempts - again PB'd in training but didn't hit target for the year (now at 2.06)
    5. Sub 4.30 marathon - Nope! DCM - beat last year, but didn't do well on the day!

Will focus on them for next year

Just had a look and thank christ I didn't put any goals up last year :D

    This year

    - Minimum 250 miles a month (No disappearing for a month here or there as I have done the past two years)
    - Sub 2.36 in Rotterdam (initial goal was between 2.30 and 2.35 but if the clock reads 2.35.xx ill take it :D)
    - 5 PBs
    - Complete the Big 10 (not really a major target but with running the marathon this year I finally have the opportunity to give it a bash)
    - 3000 miles for the year (just over 8 miles a day)

    - Minimum 250 miles a month (No disappearing for a month here or there as I have done the past two years) - Ironically the month that let me down here was probably one of my best in terms of quality (220 that month)
    - Sub 2.36 in Rotterdam (initial goal was between 2.30 and 2.35 but if the clock reads 2.35.xx ill take it :D) - DNS due to broken nose
    - 5 PBs Excluding the pacing gigs and 1st time at distance this weekend was the 5th so I will take it
    - Complete the Big 10 (not really a major target but with running the marathon this year I finally have the opportunity to give it a bash) Despite a few 2.18-2.19 800s in training I never raced anything below 3k this year. May hit the mile on Xmas day but won't have a chance to race the other two.
    - 3000 miles for the year (just over 8 miles a day) 1st time I have monitored this throughout they year as well as being consistent enough year round to hit it

All in all more fails than successes however it has been my best year by far in terms of number of races, PB's, competitiveness and overall training so I can't not be happy with it

Ran 44:24 in 10k race pace run in March as part of my HM training - not official race distance.

So my revised goals for 2014 are:

    1. Run 1,500+ miles
    2. 1:35 HM
    3. 43min 10k

    1. Crossed the 1,500 mark today whilst out for a breezy easy 6 miles.
    2. Managed a 1:33:43 at Clontarf in Nov. Was delighted and still coming to terms with the progress at this distance in 2014 :)
    3. Missed this one I think more due to a lack of planning - though Clontarf had a 10km mat which I hit in 43:45

Did my final race of 2014 yesterday at the Marlay ParkRun - went out way to fast (1km PB of 3:50) and paid the price at 3km when I had to stop and walk  Had forgotten how much pain a 5km is - crossed the line in 20:35 which I'll take as its a 20sec PB.

    5k sub 20 (pb 20:52)
    10k sub 45 (pb 45:56)
    HM - 1:40:xx (pb 1:44:26)
    M - sub 4 (pb 4:37)

Run >1000 mile this year (964 miles in 2013:mad:)
Don't get injured (again) by doing strength training and sticking to it this time

    5k - didn't actually run a 5k - time wasn't right anytine one came up
    10k - 44.26 - K club
    HM - 1:40:52 - Waterford HM,
    M - 4:10 - Barcelona
    >1000 miles - 1116

Bit of a disaster with marathons, 4:10 in Barcelona and 4:22 in Dublin:mad: Know where I went wrong and it was the last goal - strength training to remain injury free did not happen and only myself to blame..
On the run up to Barcelona had a good routine going and stayed relatively injury free (a few niggles) and did pretty ok on the day. After that left the S&C slide and found it very hard to get back into it, result: 34 days missed due to injury and a clusterf**k of a Dublin marathon, hopefully lesson learned for 2015.
