    Happy New Year!

This is the spot to discuss all the Hip Hop news in 2014, what albums you're looking forward to, new videos, new artists etc. All that good stuff!

I was gonna post 2 videos from albums I'm looking forward to that are dropping soon and looked at the Hip Hop 2013 thread and the 3rd post in there was me posting the same artists. Fu*kers like keeping me waiting :D

But at least 1 is out in a few weeks and the other should hopefully follow soon *knocks on wood*

    50 dropped a new track, it's a nice little teaser;

Reminds me of KA, but more entertaining

Not much happening in 2014 obviously but but:

Juice was just added to netflix (US, chrome hola unblocked) and it is one a great movie and 2 has great music in it (scored by hank shock lee / bomb squad).

ye just teaser/freestyle really.. His mixtape animal ambition is coming now in the next few weeks too. I still think a concept album from 50 is the way to go, he's feeding millions in africa with his sms/sk brand so i think it would make sense. He's at constant war with interscope though which is a shame because he's released some good mixtapes and singles last year.

Album wise still really just buzzing for Q's album, really hope he delivers on it, also that nas/premo album does sound tasty.

Sadistik said the other day that he will be releasing an LP and EP this year, and a book as well I think.

Here's a new year jam from Alexander Spit, dope as usual

Possible Soulo has 2 projects out in 2014?

Soulo x2, q, rock, isiah x2 or just one each with black hippy release or kendrick release or either of those with the cole collab would be amazing.

soulo, q, rock, black, isiah, sea and cole cola is most likely imo. isiah x 2 and ab-soul x2 is not a smart move in one year.

    I'll definitely get that.

Also, possible Slug and Alchemist release? Sign me up!

"I think it’s just a matter of which project we drop first," Alchemist says in the interview, which was published by PrefixMag. "'Cause we've already done a lot of stuff.  Slug is a legend. If allowed, the world will hear it. You gotta ask Slug. You know what? You gotta ask Ant [Atmosphere's producer] 'cause Ant has everything in the hard drive. If you know him, he gives out information easily."

In July 2013, Atmosphere's Slug spoke about wanting to work with Alchemist during a HipHopSite interview.

"Alchemist is too fu*kin' hot right now," Slug said at the time. "He wouldn't fu*k with us. He's like on top of the world. You hear me, Alc? I know that you're too hot for us. That's cool. We'll wait until people don't like you again, and then we'll make a record with you. For cheap."

Alc and RhymeSayers have been talking about it on FB as well. Slug joked in the interview that they would call it The Purple Waters of Lake Minatonka, but it looks like the name 'Lake Minatonka' is getting some legs.

No one really seemed to care when I posted originally, but Outkast are back.
Coachella - the site of the return of Tupac and now possibly the site of the "Return of the G".

OutKast is reportedly discussing the possibility of a reunion at 2014's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, according to billboard.com.

The site reports that multiple sources have confirmed that OutKast is in prolonged talks about involvement in the festival, which is slated to commence April 11, 2014. Billboard also reports that this may be the start of a reunion run for the Atlanta, Georgia duo.

OutKast has yet to confirm talks of a reunion. Coachella organizer Goldenvoice has also not commented on the report. Nevertheless, Billboard says that one source confirmed "some conversations" about the group reuniting, with a second source saying that it is "all systems go" for the duo's reunion.

highly doubt it but who knows.

Im not a huge fan of hip hop/techno-ish remixes but this has been doing the rounds and is getting a bit of attention, its lamars verse from games track the city I have to say its nice, give it a chance. :)

Yeah that is pretty nice but I have to say there's nothing even slightly techno about that, I can tell you're not a fan of EDM because it's not the first time I've seen you describe something as techno that just wasn't :p

It's just hip hop that's highly reliant on the synth and has a serious electronic sound, similar enough to the likes of stronger by kanye :)

Ye sorry my bad !. I tend to class techno and dance type music into the one genre, sheerly out of lack of knowledge in the music really.

I wouldn't mind I've 2 friends who dj at clubs etc playing techno music. Plenty a time they've tried to get me into it but it's just not for me. I like the substance behind most hip hop and how you can relate to it, most of my mates only relate to techno on drugs :P.

While Gibbs and producer Madlib have Cocaine Pinata set for Feb. 4, he’s been in the studio chipping away at his new album called Eastide Slim. The former XXL Freshman says he’s about 75 percent done and we can expect it this year.

    http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2014/01/freddie-gibbs-to-release-new-album-this-year/
Cocaine Pinata coming out. My new album, Eastide Slim, is coming next after Cocaine Pinata ****. I was gonna put out a couple of mixtapes and ****, but I am a hold back and put out this record. This Eastide Slim **** is coming together, I am about 75 percent done with it. After this Cocaine Pinata ****, this Eastide Slim [album] is definitely gonna break some mother****er’s hearts. And I am gonna go on tour. Like I said, I am established [now]. I am trying to be the No. 1 independent [artist] this year. That’s what I am on.

I am willing to travel to London to see him. I would do without sleep to make it in for work the next day if I had to.

Crazy track from Q, I said it here before that his music has been on par with lamars the past year or two. I honestly think Q has the potential to put out a better album than good kid which is still to me no where near lamars previous work.

Yep, fully serious. He's been on some good beats, he has some good tunes but his ryhmes are boring both in terms of lyrics and flow over the beat, he's really just a pretty poor rapper.

Can't see how you could find him boring tbh, last thing I'd ever think someone would call Q. Sure he ain't touching Kendrick lyrically but Q is never going to be a lyrical rapper. He makes gangsta/drug/party rap, he's not going to be the next Talib Kweli, but he has great beat selection and knows how to make a good hook. I've never found Kendrick all that lyrical either while I'm on the topic, he has his moments like with Rigamortis, but for the most part he just has a crazy good flow and tells great stories.

But it's all down to preference at the end of the day, some people think Q is a better lyricist than Kendrick & visa versa. Some people also think Wayne is one of the top lyricists of all time! You can be as spiritual miracle lyrical as you like though,"Got more soul than a sock with a hole" is still the highpoint of lyrical rap

I said lyrical way too much, I hate that word.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 411 ✭✭LUPE

"just a crazy flow and tells great stories".

Just? Exactly what Q doesn't have. And most other rappers. I'm not a lyrical snob or anything, but even for "party/drug rap" he's weak.

He's had some good songs, but they've almost been in spite of his rapping.

Q's delivery is up there with some of the best in hip hop ATM at least modern hip hop. The energy he brings take the spiteful chant from section 80, I think his verse on that says everything about his style, he owned kendrick on it IMO.

Like said though he's a gangsta rapper so I don't know what your expecting it's a sub genre in itself , you should know what your going to get really when listening to gangsta rap.

My point was not who was better from an mc point of view anyway it was that I honestly think Q's recent music and mixtapes have been to the same level of Lamar's and the fact that he really has the potential to put out a better album than gkmc.

Kendrick obviously has a lot of d*ckriders now fresh from the gkmc bandwagon so the majority will think otherwise but to say Q is a poor rapper isn't really fair.

Even within the context of a gangsta/drug/party rapper he's very limited (would dispute whether he's gangsta rapper but that's beside the point), at the moment there's no indication he has the potential to put out an album as good as GKMC.

If you're including me in the "dickriders" category that's grand, but I was listening to Kendrick well before GKMC. GKMC was an incredible album though as a whole piece, just because loads of people jumped on Kendrick because of it doesn't change that.

Q has had some good tunes you'd throw on at a party (so does Kendrick btw) but they've given absolutely no indication of potential to rival any of Kendrick's works as a whole.

No I wasn't implying that you were at all :), gkmc is a good album alright but it was definitely a letdown for me I really taught it should of been a lot better but thats just me, there's something missing on it.

If your going to call gkmc an incredible album really you'd have to ask yourself what was section 80 ? because it doesn't come close to it imho. I think he should of listened to pharell when he told him to stick with your original production team because section 80 to me was one of the best pieces of hip hop released in the last 5 years or more, that's how highly id rate it.

The whole Q debate, no point in dwelling it out really. You have your opinion and vice versa and i suppose its the same for what i said about gkmc.:)

who would ever taught these 2 would be on the same track. Years chris lighty tried to get these two to squash their beef, it took his passing away to do so at the BET awards. This is decent from 50 and fat joe minus good owl flex leaving off bombs of course.

I've been on the fence about this kid for a while, he was borrowing Joey Badasses flow and style heavy when he first started blowing up but it seems like he's coming into his own now. He's 16 and has an album with DOOM coming out later this year.
