Here whats up with RTE showing the exact MBB,s again tonight... the same one was on at least twice yesterday and now on again??

Are things that bad in RTE that they have to show repeats of repeats in two days?

Well their prime time viewing for a Stephens Day was the little scrote Brennan with his wanky program so was downhill from there.

If you have a problem with a service you are receiving then stop paying for it. If they lose people they will see they're doing something wrong.

    Oh wait...

They are simply assuming that we all love MBB's so much that we wouldn't mind watching the same episode two days in a row.

MBB is shyte, keep it in the UK where that type of thing is liked.

One million people watch it regularly in Ireland.

I'd rather watch any Father Ted episode a thousand times before I endured 5 seconds of MBB.

Serious question: Have you watched more than 5 minutes of MBB?

Proportionately it is more popular and more watched in Ireland than the UK. So I'm not sure what your post was about earlier.

The list of things I'd rather do than watch Mrs Browns boys includes a weekend getaway in Guantanamo bay, and violently masturbating with a sheet of course grade sandpaper.

If you don't like Mrs. Brown's boys don't watch it simple as. There is other channels available after all and while most of the jokes on it last night were older than Brendan O Carroll himself there is an audience for it. If there wasn't it wouldn't be broadcast.

    " Ah me fanny "

That sort of humour - biggest piece of ****e.

The only way I look at this, is it - is carry on mixed with Benny hill.

The only reason it gets large viewing - is they like that ****e in UK and the Irish are watching in - in a bewildered fascination with our neighbour.

    "Ah me crack"

    "How is your nuts"

    :o:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Unfortunately yes, my mother likes it. Lowest common denominator with shamelessly robbed jokes (any key? Come on!). Hate every second of it.

Yes was listening to the lines - some of them sound very familiar.

In fact so many of the slap stick stuff is stole from Mrs Doyls.

And the Grandad character is a Fr Ted sort of character.

My mother likes it too, she and her friends laugh like drains at the thing, it is silly entertainment, any time I'm there I can see they're in hysterics! I tried it, it isn't my cup of tea but it entertains a particular section of society; but it really isn't that different in style from the father ted show either. But the hatred is hard to understand. Maybe it is because it appeals to an older generation?

Hate Mrs Browns' Boys. Same old predicatable comedy with age-old jokes and cheesy humour.

    Example of an episode;
"Mammy!" says the blonde one with the irritating hoarse voice and toothy grin. "What love, I'm giving Grandad a bed-bath!"
Cue raucous laughing from the audience.
"Do you think Grandad will mind that I've eaten all his nuts?"
"Yes Hiraly, it took him all day to suck the chocolate off." THAT'S AN OLD JOKE.

Mrs Brown with her hanky in her hand all the time irritates me.
The stupid gormless son dressing up as a snowman and being told about "snowballs" by Mrs Brown.
    More laughter from the audience.

The entire cast breaking the fourth wall and laughing along with the audience.

It amazes me how this drivel has become so popular.
It's hopeless and I cringe whenever it comes on.

God be with the days when we had proper comedy.

Carry On was bawdy for sure, but it featured some genuinely talented comic performers & kinda had a charm all of its own, a quality that's that's patently absent from O'Carroll's crudfest.

People obviously find this character charming.

There is a "message" behind it all. ;)

Listening now - am surprised how much he just uses Bastard or **** when there is no other joke.

An old woman saying **** would be enough to make some laugh "**** off Rory"

No, it's worlds apart from Fr Ted. Fr Ted was actually funny for the most. MBB is absolute dire muck.

Anyone is free to chose what they like or dislike, but neither me nor anyone else choosing not to watch it will make it any better. It will always be drivel. Herselfs mother was here tonight and it was on, I've seen more humour in Oireacteas (spelling) report.

But then how can you explain so many people laughing at it????

A lot of father ted was rubbish too.

    Who is laughing at it.

I think they are laughing at the Slap Stick - then the amount of canned laughter is unreal - but Fr. Ted had that too.

I'd agree bits of it are like Fr. Ted - do you know why - because he stole the ideas.

Fr Ted was totally original - this is the same old 80s **** humour and stolen jokes.

I defy you to name me a bad FT episode. I can't think of any.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,106 ✭✭✭catallus

    I don't...

I defy you to name me a bad FT episode. I can't think of any.

A lot of the comedy in ft depended on slapstick and inane juxtaposition. The comic timing of some of the lead actors was woefully inept. A lot of the jokes depended on wildly exaggerated stereotypes being placed in painfully contrived situations. And when the writers got lazy they fell back on tropes which were simply not funny in any context (Gowangowangowangowan)

I remember that shlte used be on Radio years ago i.e 2fm. It had a slot on Gareth O' Callaghan's afternoon show.

I absolutely hated it then. I used to switch over to Atlantic 252 for 10 or 15 minutes until it was over.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 81 ✭✭lilymc

The reason Ted is much more loved than MBB will be is because of the characters. MBB is just vulgar. Some of the comedy in both might be cheesy, but Ted wouldn't have been the same if it didn't have the characters and relationships it did, that is what made it special.

Just before Christmas Brendan walked past me in the lashings of rain in full Mrs Brown gear at around 1am. Thought I was seeing things and turned around to see where he was going and he went up onto the Ha'penny Bridge where there were loads of people waiting with lights and a camera. I had thought the lights were Christmas decorations but that was the only night they were there, so must have been put up especially for an episode of MBB.

I didn't watch the show, was there a scene in it like that?

Have on look at the cover of the RTE Guide Christmas edition and we need not debate any further.

Mrs browns boys - the absolute bottom of the barrel.
People who watch it on a regular basis - simpletons.
