    Like a thick auld Bogger I went out into the New Zealand sunshine without a cap or sunscreen and by the time I got back to the hotel I was glowing and feeling a bit dodgy. Wasn't sure if it was mild sun stroke or the venison burgers but I'd a crap nights sleep and I'd to get up at 6.15 as I'd entered this;

    http://nz.srichinmoyraces.org/auckhalfseries

Looked a bit "cultish" to me but I didn't fancy doing 14 miles steady on my own out in the heat, so if I'd to bake or buy a few cookies for Jesus, then so be it!

Grabbed a quick early breakfast at the hotel, got into the gear and headed off.

It was on in the War Memorial Park, about 20 mins away in a cab. It started and finished on a tartan track and involved 9 loops of the park (including a lap of the track). There was also a 10k race and a kids fun run. In fairness it was superbly well organised with more marshals/volunteers than runners. It was very warm and I was concerned that I'd dehydrate and blow up and when the sun came out my head felt like a bag of microwaveable rice on full power.

I'd say there was only about 20 doing the half and after a quick briefing and a minutes silence so we could find inner peace! we were off. Started off with 3 laps of the track and then onto the bigger laps of the park.

Tried to find a rhythm that I was comfortable but even when I slowed the pace down I didn't feel much better so I just dug in and focussed on knocking off the laps. They were handing out water and electrolytes in cups at the end of every lap.

Really struggled after 8 miles and had to dig deep.

Ran virtually the whole thing on my own, passing the occasional runner and it was a bit of a slog from start to finish and I was damm glad when it was finished as I was feeling a little nauseous and my face was the colour of Oompa Loompa sick :)

They had fruit, porridge, yogurts and biscuits at the end and it was really great value for money at $27.

Couldn't find a taxi to get me back so I asked one of the organisers, q a little talk on the Guru, enlightenment and how a little humility can make you a faster runner. (Ecoli can you include a humility session in next weeks plan for me :))

I'm not really into that sort of stuff, but each to their own and if fairness they were really sound, when they couldn't get a taxi for me they got one of their guys to drive me back to the hotel (he even gave me an Auckland marathon tee shirt).

    Finished in 1.38:26

    Weird but cool day!

    Splits:

Got a Sydney Nursing Home special in today.

Travelled from Auckland yesterday evening and I'm here for another day or so with work.

Sydney is grand but I've been here a few times and it's fairly touristy, would have much preferred to stay an extra few days in Auckland!

Staying in a hotel on Pitt street and headed down to the Botanical gardens and down around the Opera house. Was cloudy but still fairly warm.

Got 40 mins very easy in and happy enough that the legs don't seem to be in too bad nick after yesterday's run.

6th day in a row running and it's been a long time since I've managed that.

Hit 50 miles last week despite not running Monday or Tuesday and I really need to keep it consistent now.

    11 weeks to Seville!

    Today the plan called for 4 x 8 mins @ 7.00, 6.50, 6.40 & 6.40 pace, off 2 mins recovery.

Meetings all day and most of this evening coupled with having to get up later at 3am to get my flight meant this run was in jeopardy. Don't want to break my mini running streak just yet, and instead of going for lunch I got out of the "tin of fruit" and into the gear and hit the treadmill.

Small enough gym but the gear was in good nick but it was very warm and stuffy. No one else in the place so after a k warm up I got stuck in. Felt very comfortable but I was soon sweatin worse that Christie Moores arm pit!

Treadmill was set up in km and wasn't entirely sure what the conversion pace was but I did the first one @ 4.20 pace. Took the 2 mins recovery handy and got stuck in again, still fairly comfortable at 4.15 pace but at this stage the sweatin was gone beyond a joke, I was drenched through. Did the 3rd rep @ 4.07 pace, the mirror in front of me looked like a water feature with big fat globs of sweat running down it! Still felt grand except the tee shirt was now so wet it was stretching way down past my hips and was annoying me. There was still no one around so on the last recovery I took it off.

Was wondering if I'd miscalculated the paces so I decided to do the last rep @3.59 pace, got going again and watched the the mirror sweat globs race each other to the floor where they started to form a little pool. Was feeling good till about 3 mins to go when it started to feel a bit harder effort wise and shortly after that a couple came into the gym :o Tee shirt had dropped to the floor, and I could see them glancing over at me, wasn't ever going to see them again so I pure muled it out and finished the session.

Put on the sodden tee shirt, cleaned up the mess with a towel and high tailed it outta there. The woman gave me a pure evil look on the way out, as if to say "thanks for the mammaries!" :)

    Reps 4.20, 4.15, 4.07, & 3.59

    Total 10k

Today the plan called for some easy miles. Texted Tang yesterday to see if he was up for a few miles. (FBOT wasn't available ;)) once I landed.

Was pretty tired after almost 24 hours flying and my back was tighter than a Cavan mans grip on his Communion money. There was an hours delay getting our baggage apparently due to adverse weather conditions! The weather app was saying that it was wet and windy and I texted Tang telling him I'd be late and hoping he'd pull the plug, but no joy he badly wanted to see me :)

Got to the hotel and the receptionist greeted me by name, was a bit surprised until she told me I was the only one in the whole hotel!! Bit surreal but at least I shouldn't have a problem getting a table for breakfast.

Met Tang outside, nearly missed him as he was wearing his new ninja rain jacket. The weather wasn't too bad and we got going, chatting away, miles ticked off nicely. Pace was a little quick but I think Tang was anxious to finish quickly and get home to reassure his missus that she was still his number 1 :)

Nice mild evening, not at all what I was expecting, and was delighted to get 7.65 miles done around 8.10 pace. Good man B, that's 7.65 miles I wouldn't have banked if you weren't such a stubborn bollix!

Plan today called for 11 miles steady, my steady pace is currently around 7.30.

Woke up good and early this morning, the only resident in a 54 bedroom hotel. I think the hotel is in NAMA but unless last night was an exceptional aberration then it's probably losing serious money (good to know our taxes are going to prop up such vanity projects!)

Went down to the breakfast room and it was like having my own private chef and waiting staff :)

Lashed into the full Irish, with about 3 pots of tea and then headed out.

Mild morning out there with very little wind and the sun was doing its best to poke through the clouds. Ran the same route as I'd run last night with Toyboy Tang and felt fairly comfortable throughout. Ended up with 11.56 miles @ 7.21, that's a bit quicker than planned but I can feel some of my strength returning and I ran it off what felt like a steady pace. Jumped in the car and headed to Shannon as I'd to go to London.

    7.26
    7.18
    7.28
    7.15
    7.27
    7.15
    7.24
    7.24
    7.15
    7.13
    7.18
    4.20

Had a hour to kill once I got to the hotel and I decided to shake out the legs with a few recovery miles on the treadmill. Got 3.5 miles done nice and gentle and spent about 30 mins stretching and foam rolling.

Total miles for the day, a shade over 15.

Friday: enforced rest day, travelling back from London, and by the time I got back I had zero interest in running.

Today: easy miles planned, yesterday's lethargy seemed to have carried right through to today. Kept putting off the run, even started voluntarily cleaning up around the house, the missus thinks it's a guilt reaction and that I'm having an affair, had to come clean about Toyboy Tang :)

Was reading Double D's log over a coffee where he struggled to get out yesterday but felt better once he got it done so I got the gear on and headed off over Seanadh Phestin.

Twas fecking baltic, needed gloves, hat and base layer but at least it was dry

Got 7 miles done very easy.
