Best of luck in the Streets of Galway, I don't know why but I imagine this run to be like the bull running in Pamplona so be careful.

You went to Teddys without me:eek::eek::eek: The cheek of Ferris..... bringing you over to the Southside for ice-cream;)
I live just up the road from there (in fact Teddys just might be the reason I'm not running so well at the moment;))

Best of luck tomorrow, there's a big Crusaders contingent heading down for the weekend unfortunately I can't make it, hope to catch up with you at a race some time soon.
PS. keep up the good work:D

Tnx P, if I don't run it in 6.30 pace I'll be disappointed, it's very congested at the start so it's a slow enough to get going.

Get yourself positioned near the front so. Stick on a singlet and act elite. When the gun sounds, RLF. Have fun.

Isn't that a bit soft based on your 10k pb??

    Hey Bulmers,

Maybe a bit but I was much further along the last training cycle when I did that 10k and felt strong as I'd lots of long runs in the legs. Course tomorrow will also be very congested, but I'll give it a shot, anything worse than 6.30 pace and I'll be disappointed, and I'll take anything better than that at this stage.

Hope you enjoyed the holiday, how's you're training plan.

Note FerrisB bought me ice cream on our date :)

Today: plan called for 3 miles recovery.

Just managed to get this done before the darkness closed in.

    Very heavy rain around tonight.

No watch but it was nice and slow.

Still reckon there's a bit of sandbagging there;) 31:37 is my prediction (no pressure).
Not home til Sunday - long run in the morning. Last weeks one nearly killed me. Started too late & 'twas pushing 30 by the time I finished the hilly route.
Quads were mashed but no damage done.

If the ice cream was the highlight of the date I don't think I've anything to worry about;)

Today the plan called for an 8k race, the Streets of Galway. The last time I did this was 6 or 7 years ago, and the race has gotten very popular.

Was hoping to run this in 6.30 pace and possibly a bit under.

Got to the start with about 20 mins to spare after a bit of a search for a parking space. Saw a lad with a Crusaders vest and asked him if he knew Marthastew, he looked at me like I was an idiot and said "of course", he said that his name was Leo and that he had done a Galway park run earlier today!

Took FerrisB's advise (apart from donning a singlet and acting like an elite) and pushed my way up into the top 20 rows. Still was pretty congested at the start but didn't overly affect me. Felt ok for the first couple of miles but they changed a part of the route since I've done it last and put in a bit of a hill, I wasn't expecting this and although it was short enough it seemed to take a good bit out of me. The route passes by my parents house and the 3 kids were outside handing out water and I got a bit of a lift here. The middle lad told me I was catching the leader (Martin Fagan) :)

Felt like I was going backwards for the last mile but with about 500m to go I passed a guy I know (a Tri fairy) that would usually be a bit quicker than me over the shorter distances.

I really gotta do something about my running style, I thought I was getting better, but I kopped loads of comments about it, my mother asked me had I a pain in my side, the Tri Fairy told me at the finish that he knew it was me that was trundling up behind him because he could see the fat duck waddle shadow on the road! One of the lads that I know was stewarding and he said, "Jesus man, imagine the time you might have done if you ran straight" :)

Fock the lot of them I say, the fat duck waddle got me around in 31.30 -31.33 range (need to wait for the official time to be sure)

All in all happy, but I was disappointed I let the unexpected hill get to me.

    Splits:

    6.17
    6.17
    6.17
    6.22
    6.06
    & a bit

When ran with me (I think you were a virgin then, you're a slut now!!) You said you ran like a 'hippo', so it's now a 'duck'. Great progression in every sense!! (Except if you like hoi sin sauce :))

Seriously great racing at that 8k and Super racing in total these days, you''re a machine at this stage!

Forget the gourmet ice creams, I'd even treat you to 2 flakes in your 99. (Jaysus, that sounds so wrong)

    Welcome back AMK,

They say you never forget your first, we'll have to get it on again soon :)

This machine is out of warranty, rattles and shakes and is one spare part away from the scrap heap!

We'll catch up soon and you can flake away.

Super running TbL, great stuff... I must admit, with your posts I was looking out for some half bald/half grey haired, gimp legged speedster, but I never spotted you :D

Great running today, as always :)

Savage time, can't argue with those splits! You should start your own running class a la 'Chi running'. Bogger Running? The Duck Form? Answers on a postcard.

I presume you stopped for an ice cream in mile 4.

    Super, super running. Well done.

I like the sense of humour of your three ducklings handing out the water. Wonder where they got that...
