    Today: plan called for 12 x 500m, off 60-75sec recovery, at around 5k pace. 2m wu/cd.

Felt crappy today, heavy legs and lethargic. Did the session on my lunch break on the local track. Did 2.25 very slow miles on grass trying to get a bit of spark into the legs but it wasn't happening. Hit the track and got stuck in. Found this session very tough from the off, the short recoveries were really getting me, initially was taking around 60-65 secs after the reps this drifted to 70-75 and I had a couple of around 80.

I almost pulled the plug twice but managed to hang in. Finished the session but gotta say that it was one of the toughest I've done so far. Was initially very disappointed when I finished but reflection, chat with Coach and a strong coffee have me taking some positives from it.

Finished with a shuffle 1.25m cool down on grass.

    Splits:

    1.48
    1.49
    1.49
    1.49
    1.51
    1.50
    1.47
    1.45
    1.52
    1.50
    1.53
    1.49

Looks pretty solid to me too. Started and finished with almost identical splits and made up for a couple of slower one's with some faster one's in the middle. Your average was still below 1:50 which seems to be what you were aiming for? I think you can be very hard on yourself sometimes.

I suppose you're right P, I think it was the effort level that the session required that had initially poised me off, but a couple of hours later, I can't really complain about it, as I definitely ran it faster than my 5k pace.

Today: plan called for 4 miles easy am and 7 miles with strides.

As I'm on my way to London for the next two days, I decided to do the 7 miles early this morning in case I was caught for time later.

As it happened I had to bring the two eldest kids out on their bikes for the pm run and as a result got the miles in but no strides.

Quads taking their time softening out too!

Am: 7 miles at 8.26 pace

Pm: 6 miles at 8.27 pace

No Ray, doing the street of Galway 8k on 9th of August and Longford Half towards end of August (sent entry and cheque in post today, too mean to pay the online fee!). Are you doing the R&R?

Ex Coach? Ah the penny just dropped is AL, doing it? Unless L is doing it and I'm getting my divorce papers!

Plan today called for 7 miles easy with strides.

Was up very early this morning to head to the UK and had a very long day so I was in no humour to do this. Fell asleep for a bit and really didn't want to go out. Sucked it up and headed out. Road was busy with lots if traffic and the paths were narrow and were overgrown with bushes. Poor surface didn't improve my humour either. Did about 2 miles through a woodland trail, thorns, nettles, branch roots and low hanging trees, how ye trail guys enjoy this I just don't know. Give me tar any day!

Finished the 7 miles and had to force myself to do the strides. Did 5 decent strides of circa 100m and they ended up being the most enjoyable part of the workout.

    7m @ 9.08 plus 5 x 100m strides.

    I'm off to bed.

Today was to be a recovery day. Got caught in desperate traffic on the M25 on the way to Heathrow. Could have run the last 5 miles quicker! Got dropped at T2 with 30 mins to flight, would definitely have missed it if Aer Lingus were still flying from T1, but there was zero waiting at T2, no queueing and a quick strides session got me to the departure gate just about on time.

Program called for 3 miles recovery and I did them nice and easy at a proper recovery pace of 9.33. Decided to indulge myself and did a few easy lengths of the pool, a stint in the jacuzzi and the steam room. Recovery theme moved to over indulgence as I tucked into a curry cheese chips & a quater pounder with cheese :)

Plan today called for 4 miles easy am and 7 miles easy with strides pm.

Legs felt a fair bit fresher this morning, I'm putting that down to the curry/cheese chips component of yesterday's recovery session:)

The two oldest had a GAA blitz this morning and the plan was to drop them off get the 4 miles in and get back in time to see the last couple of games. The young lad convinced me to stay until he scored his first point, told me it wouldn't take long. Set off on my AM run at lunch time!

Decided to take a route that I've never done and I headed up to coral beach and continued along the shore line. Route was very scenic but very difficult to run on, ended up hopping from rock to grassy knoll to rock like a mountain goat, pace was very slow but was enjoying it till I almost went over on my ankle. Got an awful fright (stick to what you know auld man!) and bailed to the nearest boreen.

If I'm reincarnated as a mountain goat I hope it's to a pet farm as I doubt I'd survive long in the wild :)

Got a bit lost and ended up doing 8 miles @ 8.21.

PM: got 4 more miles in @ 7.54 on a loop near the house. Managed to get 7 decent strides in of about 85-100m, feel like I'm getting better at these and the wobble was less pronounced than usual.

8th consecutive day running, I don't think I've ever done that before.

I'll save you the bother and paraphrase, I ran up to the chippie, got a curried cheese goat and watched the football :)

Today the plan called for 14 miles steady (7.35-45)

Got caught up all day and was lucky to get this one in. Had to do it straight after a BBQ, literally licked my chops, put on the gear and headed out with a belly full of burnt meat!

Did an out and back route around Rossaveal. Didn't find this easy and never really settled into it. Legs have tightened up again a bit and I hope the new runners arrive soon as a couple of toes are poking out of the runners now.

    Splits:

    7.26
    7.20
    7.21
    7.23
    7.27
    7.30
    7.29
    7.33
    7.29
    7.30
    7.32
    7.26
    7.21
    6.56

Tired at the end, it was windy and warm. Total weekly mileage 61

After a BBQ? Impressive. You obviously avoided the beer. Great splits.

Just realised I have no idea what you are training for. Do you have marathon plans or something else?

    Tnx Murph,

I'm training my way through a mid life crisis!

Next target marathon is Amsterdam on 19th October, hoping for a sub 3.05.

Today plan called for a 3 mile recovery run.

Spent the day at the beach, cold sea water supposed to be good for the legs!

Did 4 very easy miles just over 36 mins.

10th consecutive day running, that's definitely a record for me.

Was in Dublin today for work and met up with Coach this evening for another mystery session. Session was an 8 miler pace alteration with a mile wu/cd. I had no watch and was told to just match the pace which suited me fine.

Ran around a nice flat loop in the PP. Found the first one hard enough but got into it fairly quickly. Was able to chat on the down pace miles and most of the "up" miles so was happy enough with that. I feel that my running form has also improved, although it was so bad god knows it couldn't have gotten any worse!

I like the structure of this program, no two sessions have been the same and that in itself keeps it interesting. With 11 weeks to go, I'm in a good place and starting to feel stronger and I haven't done any serious mileage yet. Pushed out the last bit of the final rep and there was more panting than you'd hear at a porno audition but I recovered quickly.

Probably a nice easy session for coach and I gave him a bottle of Lukozade at the end not because he needed to replace lost energy but the lad could do with the calories :)

The session seemed to fly by, amazing the difference running with someone makes.

    Splits;

    7.20
    6.46
    7.16
    6.41
    7.14
    6.38
    7.15
    6.19

    Total miles 10

Today plan called for 7 miles easy with strides and tomorrow was to be a rest day.

Only got a couple of hours sleep last night as I was London early this morning. Didn't get back to the hotel in Dublin till 9.30 and put on the gear immediately and headed off as I knew if I sat my ass down it wasn't getting up. Decided to do 6 miles easy as my meetings are later in the day tomorrow so I've another Boardsie running date organised for the morning and the rest day will have to wait.

Did 6 miles up along the canal @ 7.55 pace.

The dirty dozen, 12 straight days running, I don't know myself, what's the world record :)

Today was to be a rest day but after answering an ad to do some volunteering for Age Action Ireland, my first assignment was to meet some auld lad outside Sandymount Dart station to help him get in his required daily exercise.

FerrisB shuffled of the Dart and after the small talk and him re- pocketing his can of mace, we headed off. Absolutely cracking morning for a run, I don't know my way around that part of Dublin as I never spent much time (sober anyway!) down those neck of the woods, too posh! I had intended on doing 10 miles max at around 8.30 pace but the pace was dipping towards 8.00. We ran along Sandymount strand and into Blackrock and I think we got as far as Dun Laoighre. The place looked fantastic in the sun almost like a European holiday hotspot. We stopped for refreshments at a fancy Mr Whippy place called "Teddy's", I sacrilegiously asked for an almond magnum but they didn't have them so made do with the 99 (with flake), would have liked the Magnum coz although I can't run 1.26 for a HM, I'd have liked to show Ferris my speed over the course of a magnum. Having dispatched our ice creams we headed back.

We chatted all the way and before I knew it I'd clocked up 11.35 miles, company and a bit of chat make the miles fly by.

Also learned a few things I didn't know today and picked up a few nice pointers which was a bonus.

Tnx Ferris really enjoyed that and I see from your side that you picked up the pace for the last 5 miles hmmmmm!

This blind date running is great crack and I haven't met any nut jobs yet (does that make me the nut job :) ) but please can the next person weigh in excess of 11 stone, I'm starting to feel like an ox trundling alongside greyhounds!

    11.35 miles @ 8.00

Ps Ferris when you eventually get to run with me on my patch, there'll be no fancy ice cream parlours along the route, but I can show you how to survive on road kill and berries :)
