    Plan today called for 11 miles with 2k/1k alterations @ 6.50-7.00 & 7.40-7.50.

Had to push this back till tomorrow as I wanted to do this in daylight and I'd no opportunity to run in daylight today.

Was looking forward to it as I reckoned it looked like handy enough session till, coach texted me to let me know it was 2k at pmp and not 1k like I'd thought. Not looking forward to this feckin session now!!!

Am: got 5 easy miles done @ 9 min pace. Was tired this morning and unlike yesterday I'd to drag myself out of bed.

Pm: got 8 wet and windy miles done @8.33 pace.

Weighed myself this morning and happy enough, first Christmas in about 48 years that I haven't put on any weight! Treated myself to the last of the mince pies with a bucket of milkman Pats cream :)

    13 miles for the day

Today the plan called for the session that I abandoned yesterday. The session was 11 miles with 2/1k alterations at 6.50-7.00 & 7.40-7.50 respectively. Had to take a bit of a civil service lunch break for this, it didn't really suit as I've a project to complete and it meant I'll be late tonight finishing it.

Hit the pitches in Dangan and despite the recent weather and a few muddy patches the terrain wasn't as bad as I'd been expecting. Got a 2 k warm up done, passed a couple of auld birds out walking, was the usual polite Bogger, "hello, nice day", passed them at another point shortly thereafter, "nice day for it", passed them a third time, starting to feel a little uncomfortable, "looks like rain" I said a little awkwardly! I doubled back so I wouldn't pass them but when I got to the top of the double pitch, they must have turned as well coz low and behold there they were advancing slowly towards me. Just as I came upon them I said, "seriously girls I'm not stalking ye"!! Quick as a flash the older wan said "ah damm that's a pity"! I got a great laugh outta that and also shows that I still got it!!!

Finished the first k alteration and started on the first 2k bit, was conscious to try and keep the pacing police (Tang & Double D) from getting to excited and waving their truncheons. Did the rest of the session around the double pitch to maintain consistency.

Tired a bit towards the end and wouldn't have been able to do much more.

    Splits:

    4.41
    4.12, 4.13
    4.37
    4.12, 4.14
    4.40
    4.16, 4.12
    4.47
    4.08, 4.09
    4.49
    4.13, 4.15
    4.58
    4.14, 4.06

Finished with just over a k cool down for a daily total of 21.3k

Thats a very solid session C - well done

As for the pacing police, I made a dogs dinner of pacing my own session today so you'll have to make do with Tang waving his truncheon around the place from here on in ...I'm retiring !

First, if your calling them 'auld birds', what were they mid 70's early 80's? And of course they were following you, a fella in his 60's like you is toyboy material to them!!!

Secondly, leave my truncheon out of it. And it galls me to say, nice session.

Plan today called for easy miles.

Had a long, pain in the whole type of day at work and was in no humour to run by the time I finished. Slight hamstring niggle but the main issue was just that I was mentally lazy, I didn't really want to go out. Changed in the car and ran from the Westwood hotel across the quincentennial bridge and through Cladagh along the prom and back to the hotel via Westside.

The first bit of this was great, wasn't paying attention but could hear it buzzing after each mile, it was only after "mile" 4 that I realised that I hadn't changed it back from km setting after yesterday's session. Don't know why but this seriously pissed me off and from there on the run was a horrible horrible slog! Eventually got 13km done at recovery pace.

8 miles for the day and after 5 days running this week I've already done 60 miles, so pretty happy with that.

Plan today called for some easy miles. Had hoped to get 10/11 miles done this morning but I got commandeered to take down the tree and pack away all the Xmas decorations.

Only had a hours window as I was told I was bringing everyone out for lunch! Got out on a local loop that included a mile of mucky trail. Got 7 miles very easy done @ 8.44.

Got another 4 miles done at recovery pace late in the evening on an out and back run from the house. 4 miles

Some nice times posted by Boardsies in Waterford today, well done all.

Total miles for the day, 11.

Today: plan called for a long run with 15 miles steady.

Nice enough day for it but I was in a foul humour heading out as I was told that I'd to go to London tomorrow and stay there for the week!

Started off from the house with 2 miles very easy and then into the steady section, ran down towards Rossaveal port and up to Tully church before turning and retracing my steps. Nothing to dramatic but there's a good bit of undulation on the route. Finished the 15 steady and felt ok, the last mile finished on a hill and I did 3 very slow recovery miles to finish with 20 in total.

91 miles run in total this week and I was really hoping to finally get some consistency going, was hoping to hit 80-85 miles this week but with the trip to London I'll be lucky to hit 50, bummer!!!

    7.39
    7.28

Sorry to see you going to London again, just when you were putting few solid weeks together.

That's a big week. Fair play.
Not too long to Seville now.
    Target still sub 3?

    Tnx P.

Not likely and I'm just hoping to pb. Had really hoped I'd get another 4 weeks of 80-90 miles done and that might have put me in reasonable shape.

The last few months have been frustratingly stop/start with work and another week in London next week is a massive setback. Really disappointed TBH.

is there no way to get out super early in the mornings there to get the runs in? I know though that your work days are very long and that clearly doesn't help!

This sounds like me going into New York, but you've way more (and way better) training done than I did. You might surprise yourself if the last few weeks go ok.

What's preventing you sticking to 90% of the plan next week, even with the work travel?

    Fair question.

When I'm working in London, it's usually pretty intense with long hours. I'm also staying in 3 different hotels, I don't think the one I'm staying in on Wed & Thurs has a gym, it's out in the Sussex countryside the roads out there are dangerous to run on during the day never mind in the dark. I've packed the head torch just in case.

Friday, I'll be flying back in the evening and it'll be almost midnight before I get back.

I'm also expected to eat with work colleagues in the evenings but maybe this time I'll feign the bubonic plague!

I'd like to think I'll get 11/12 miles done on Saturday and 18-20 Sunday.

I'd be delighted if I could come close to 70 miles this week so any/all suggestions welcome

    TBL,

I'm enjoying your log lately, you're some story-teller.

I won't attempt to give you direct advice, but FWIW: For Rotterdam '15 I had a perfect 18 weeks, 100% per the plan. For DCM '15 I missed a few key sessions and had a few very low mileage weeks. My times were similar but I'd rate the DCM performance as 2-3 min faster given the differences in course and conditions. It's only a problem if it happens every week.

Any industrial estates or business parks near enough to where you are staying C? They can be ugly as sin but they're well lit, surface is usually good and are often quiet enough after hours, I find that they are fine for mopping up a few miles, if you can get your head around running the same loop again and again ....retail parks are the same actually come to think of it.

Plan today called for some Nursing Home special recovery miles.

I was a little stiff and sore last night after yesterday's long run and last weeks mileage in general so I adopted a Lidl lobster approach to recovery. I cranked the immersion up for a few hours till it was bubbling like a witches cauldron, filled up the bath with what looked like boiling water and plunged in, twitching and crying out in a high pitched voice! Waited till I was cooked through and pink from top to bottom, drained the bath, filled it with cold water and plunged in!!! Mother of Christ on a bike, this was worse, important anatomical bits of me shrank and shrivelled up and I was whimpering like a baby as I started to freeze! Any little movement seemed to make it worse and I only lasted maybe two minutes before I got out. My legs and lower torso resembled a candy cane and it took the guts of an hour before I got my body temperature to something resembling normal!!!

Legs felt good today mind :)

As I was heading to London today for the week I wanted to get the recovery miles done this morning in case I got held up at work later this evening, so I headed out around a local loop for 5 recovery miles @ 9.07

Got to the hotel about 7.30 this evening, staying in Nutfield near Gatwick and before the brain could take over and tell me to put my feet up, I got the gear on and hit the hotel gym. Feckin gym invaded by New Years resolutioners!!

Got 10k done nice and easy on a bit of an incline.

Got a smile outta this song and the video had me visualising Boardsies as the different "shoppers". Getting strange looks from strangers as I periodically burst out laughing! Played it on repeat for the entire run :)
