Among everything else that's wrong, that bike seems to have a kickstand.

    A KICKSTAND.

It's an e-bike. I don't think the same rules apply.

    It's an e-bike.

Its a road e-bike. The whole idea is an utter nonsense to start with.

Why? It goes on the road.

If I had a 80km round-trip commute I'd probably buy one, since I don't really want to spend three hours a day getting to and from work.

what's the thing sticking out of the steerer tube on top of the stem?

The bike does say xduroRace on the side of it. I presume it's 100% road race legal in that case? Should I get on to Ryder Hesjedal for advice?

    Why?

Hard to explain. Just a big fat "WRONG" neon sign in my head when I think of it.
    If I had a 80km round-trip commute I'd probably buy one,

For e5500? With half a ultegra groupset? 18kg weight? And THIS looks?

Also I don't really think that getting a motor to push that extra 10kg over 160km daily makes sense. Permissible total weight is also 120kg, so no panniers either.

I'd give up pedalling at this distance entirely and switch to a motorcycle (even e-motorcycle).

    A remote of some kind.

whole thing is useless tho when it comes to Ireland and is limited to 25 km/h as per some law or something...

I'm sure that in another configuration this could look very nice, but not like this...

^^It all depends. Since beauty is in the eye of the beholder then I guess whether you think it's ugly or not is a.....

    moot point

    Fuppin' hell, Ted!

That's a beautiful example of a monstrosity. It's got everything you could want in a gruesome brute. Some of the subtle horrors: I see a triple chainring (with chainguard), mtb ratio sprockets, a bike stand peeking out, the brake levers in some real weird position. I'm going to assume the frame is made from lead piping, or some old garden gate moulded into this aberrant creature. I'm intrigued to know how much this would retail for. Is it the road bike equivalent of a supermarket dual suspension mtb?

Well done for tracking this one down. Bravo, sir!

A laugh like the gurgling cackle of an unhinged lunatic who'd just tipped over the edge, perhaps?

The ugliest thing about that is disc brakes on a road bike.

I'm a bit biased having recently bought one (albeit not a bike with racing pretentions) but I reckon the visual ugliness will recede over time as rotors become smaller and calipers become better integrated with the frame.

The functional ugliness is a more intractable issue, but IMO the rot started with deep section/carbon fibre rims.

If the UCI had mandated shallow section alloy rims on safety grounds and left the mfrs to compete on weight we'd now have lovely riding, 5kg bikes. Instead we have engineering kludges layered on top of each other, and pros riding 7.5kg bikes which don't stop properly and behave badly when it's windy.
