Maybe it's illegal to stick an rs4 badge on a 1.9tdi now :pac:

I was shocked this week, one of the people I was working with said they didn't even know how to open their bonnet and get their car serviced every three months to avoid any issues.

    And at a main dealers!

Car in question was an older CLK

If that has actually come in it's not before it's time! :)
They probably make a real RS4 "Think twice"

Playing the game of "can you count 10 cars in a row with all lights working correctly" is very difficult in this country.

Playing the game of "can you count 10 cars in a row with all lights working correctly" is very difficult in this country.

In the last 3 months or so it has become virtually impossible!
I can forgive anyone for having one light gone but when you meet a car with no illumination on one side (both parker and dim gone) it's downright bad!
People don't keep a watch on their cars at all!
Especially dangerous when its the roadside bulbs gone!

Ah but one foglight and one dipped light on opposite sides will do don't ya know

As I said to the people at the meet today, I saw a Megan on the way down in the torrential rain, spray from the road and the wind. Their lighting consisted of one parking light:rolleyes: no tail lights, just that one pathetic light:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Id imagine a fair amount of people wouldn't know how to open a bonnet even of their own car. Although you do have to do it for the driving test. My mother wouldn't have a clue how to open it. She's a great driver with about 30 years experience but maintenance wise she knows nothing and doesn't want to know either. Speaking of service I have a neighbour who gets his van service every 6 months even though he only travels 4k km a year at most. There is 45k km ish on the van it's 05  he bought it in 07 with over 20k km on it.

Seen an offer for heated seat covers only €25 including delivery. It can take 14 days for delivery though. I'd say we'll need them once the ice days arrive. https://www.livingsocial.com/deals/943821-heated-car-seat

So I'm thinking of selling the gtv.

    Current potential ad
    133k miles 00 car

Timing belt and variator done at 113k
Spark plugs replaced at 132k miles.
    Regular services
    NCT to Jan 2015
Minor work needed for drivers seat to repair leather (approx €140)
    Oil checked weekly.

Service history up to 102k miles

Thoughts on price you'd pay? (Pred and co, don't be taking the mick, I'm being realistic on price, but not stupid) There is huge interest in the UK for Irish owned gtvs due to our lack of salt usage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,917 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

That's funny because due to our lack of salt usage, a lot of them would have been crashed instead :pac:

What car are you getting next?

As far as price is concerned, there's 2 of them for sale on carzone:

    1 - 2001, 59,500 miles going for €2,500

    2 - 2002, 84,000 miles going for €2,699

Going by those, you'd be lucky to get 2 grand for it.

Always baffles me why people bother to get their cars back to mint condition, only to sell them within a short period of time... particularly when the car is worth fúck all anyway.

GTV can't be worth much more than a grand surely?

Mine is at 132k mileage, I was thinking max €1500 price wise :)

I'd say realistically you'd be getting 1k for it.

I'd be happy with 1250 and given UK interest in recent cars that's what I'll aim for while pricing it higher on ads :)

Id go with that as the asking, and see how you go from there.

Either that or sell it to 166man or scortho for €4,000 just because!

They are not worthy 166man has a gtv with cloth seats, and scortho is just a speed merchant

My gtv shall go to someone who will love and adore her :D

    Price I'd pay...300 max as it's all I can afford for a parts car!:pac:

You should probably get between 1k and 1500.
A well looked after one is worth paying extra on and if I was buying one that I could hop into tomorrow, I'd be buying yours.
There's very few that you can hop into and drive away, so many out there need work.

If it was me I wouldn't sell it, you'll be hard pressed to find something else for the price that you'll enjoy as much.
What were you planning on replacing it with?

I'm potentially looking at moving jobs with a company car attached.
I'd put it up for sale and see what I get, but given it's pretty much in great shape and has been very well looked after, I may put it in storage and use it as a weekend car

Mine literally needs nothing done to it, it's in perfect shape apart from a minor tear in the leather on the drivers seat.

I'd keep it and have it as a spring and summer car. Especially considering what you've done to it, you've brought it back from the brink (ending up being dismantled!) and as I said, it's rare to find one in good condition.

I'm probably going to have to take my 156 of the road in February, I don't use it
Enough to justify paying 100 quid a month tax for three months (and I have final exams in May so want little distractions).
Come the summer I'll hopefully have the gtv ready to go on the road but I certainly won't sell the 156. It's worth more to me than what I'd get for it.

Isn't it amazing how our tax system completely screws over petrolheads ???

    Such a shame :(

You drive you pay why pay when the car isn't being used, it's so stupid

I'd love of there was a weekend tax for enthusiasts and they'd increase the tax take too.

I don't know how long my 156 will be off the road, but I know I won't pay 300 quid tax for 3 months when all I'll use it for is on a Saturday for an hour or two. If there was a weekend rate where you could use it from say 5 pm on Friday until 9 am on Monday (if the car is found on the road outside of these hours it's lifted) at half the rate of tax I'd tax the car.
So then they'd have an extra 150 in revenue that they otherwise won't have. That's before you add in vat and excise on fuel etc.

I know I'm not the only one who will/has there car off the road, but would happily put it on the road if there was a lower weekend rate.

Just woeful. Owner obviously used to looking at cars parked up on bricks. Its chavtastic. I actually feel I hate who ever did that, without even meeting them.
