God no, but he's certainly knowledgeable and helpful, as helpful as nissan doc.

if need to be in pug to understand the two fingers society joke/comment perhaps open forum not best place for it :)
I certainly have no understanding of what you talking about.

Have just seen the video of the "street racing" on the Falls Rd on NYE. Not cool.

That wasn't street racing. That's a bunch of a-holes joyriding in two cars they've just stolen.

@ Toyotafanboi, Sinnott autos are very bad to deal with in my limited interactions with them. Twice I went with my mum once to look at a golf (in 2008) and no matter what she said they would only let her drive a 1.4 even though she wanted to look at a TDI. Then again last year I went with her to look at a Jetta and was basically told it was a very big car for a woman :confused:

Then their Skoda dealership basically told my dad that the 1.6 TDI Octavia is plenty fast enough when he wanted to drive a 170ps 2.0TDI with DSG. They didn't have one in and gave no indication that they could get him one to drive.

If a dealer tried that with me i'd just turn around and say straight away "grand, i'll go to another dealer and buy there, see ya !"

lost sale and lost commission !

Its not the fact its a Golf underneath per se. Let's not forget what I drive myself. Its the fact its 20 grand for a silver 1.4 with cloth seats and a manual. Think about that for a moment. If someone was on here getting frothy in their knickers over a 3 year old silver 1.4 Golf with cloth and manual, there'd be ****ing pandemonium. I'm not trying to give out either, but I do feel you're very much getting caught up in the similar brain mode we give out about motorists getting into.

20k would buy you a hell of a lot of car. As part of a 20 something couple myself, and I can safely say I wouldn't be looking at Sciroccos for that kinda money.

very good points regarding the silver one. personally i would like really like dsg but i don't think herself appreciates it's merits. the 1.4 tsi with 165bhp does appear to be a bit of fun, moreso than the tdi models anyway. that and the 18" alloys give the car a much more purposeful look than the 17's. its also got a very low mileage, ok spec including auto lights and wipers, cruise con, air con etc... very hard to find one with leather, the only one within reasonable distance of us is the greed tdi r-line in waterford which is way out of budget @24k.

the budget is more like 14-15k tops and an 07 polo to trade.

we have looked at the astra gtc, megane coupe, hyundai veloster also. a TT would be nice but we would nearly have to trade down in the years to get one in budget. the astra was a close contender but the scirocco felt better finished (). i don't trust the megane, the hyundai was lovely but only available in a 1.6 slouchy petrol.

would be open to suggestions in a 3 door coupe still at this stage. it's true to a point that we are buying the scirocco through a lack of alternatives.

the 3 series is a nice idea that never crossed my mind. would a 320i be very thirsty? just quickly looking at carzone and most 320d's are crossing close to the 100k miles point and looks fairly mediocre spec in say 08/ 09's.

never considered the brera either... did look at a few Giulietta's which tick virtually every box for us but neither of us were too decided over it's looks and how it will age in the end.

asked over the phone, dealer said it was the 165, nothing would surprise me though.

Seems to be a bit of confusion going on in here....

I aint no nissan doc or mechanic. He had his papers and cert to prove he was a mechanic. He also had to do various tests and years of supervised experience.

Me on the other hand, gained all my experience from years and years of playing with cars here at home. I'm no mechanic but have a good 15 years experience working on cars (a good 10 working on Bravos just to muddy up things)

I help people where I can with what I've encountered and the level of detail reflects how much time I've spent with that particurlar marquee.

I have an interest in cars but don't make a living from them.

The 2 fingers part I'm guessing is the kind of stuff I build but also the fact they cost next to nothing to create. The van easily had the most work put into it but a lot of the parts came from other scrap cars we got in or bought cheap. The pug breaks the cheap/fast/reliable triangle by being all three at once. Anything that went wrong with either of those was down to user error so I'm not infallible either.

I can see why good posters are going and I don't be around as much anymore for my own reasons, nothing to do with motors.

Why should good posters have to listen to idiots picking faults with them/help trolls/try to be corteous and get abuse hurled at them? Where's the excitement anymore?

Feel free to question more, no doubt I'll be picked on by some posters

Unless my closing sentence of that post made him think I was claiming dgt was a mechanic, I wasn't and it wasn't my intention.
It was just a Coverall in case I pissed off a poster.

No, you didn't say that he was, I was only clarifying it because we all know what happens around here when stuff isn't spelled out in black and white :pac: Even then it's still misconstrued!

People have claimed 30mpg from the 335 but the thing to look out for in the 320's is ignition coils.

Have you the same type of family as me where you're the only one that cares for cars?

If I didn't service the family's cars they'd all be in the ditch, the father's 2010 Octavia too!
Will not look after it, over service and belt intervals, suspension falling apart etc

No different to myself. My sisters 08 Polo will be traded soon, so feeling generous, I gave it the full treatment. Within 15 mins in, I fully regretted my descision:/ Caked alloys, wells as muddy as a WW1 trench, and tired cloth and plastics.

From what you described it sounds like the on that supports the front/back of the engine is the worn one (the one that stops the engine from spinning with the wheels if that makes sense). Get someone to put the car in reverse, Hand brake on and get them to lift the clutch up and down (not enough to stall the car but close). If the engine is jumping back and forward excessively there definitely a bad mount. They are normally about 3-4 bolts on the mount to be removed to take it out but there may be other stuff in your way to remove first which might make it difficult/annoying. I like to put a jack under the sump before undoing the mount just to keep the engine in place and easer to align the holes on the reinstall. :)

Passed everything except for the cracked windscreen which I knew would fail, just didn't have a chance to get it sorted yet. :):)

Just like last year the tester said it is a really clean example which makes me warm and fuzzy inside :cool::pac:

Yeah it seems a fairly easy job to do save for a sheared bolt etc! Definitely something id like to do, the mounts are 45e though so wanna make sure its the right one :)

Quite often when they're bad the rubber is torn so if you take it out and look for visual defects first you'll be more sure if it's the right one :)

On the way back form the NCT I saw 242242km (Got to live the little things like that!)

As far as I know the clutch has never been done… But it might have been.

The belt was done by the previous owner and is due again at 270,000.

I have had it nearly 2 years now and have had good fun with it, just time to move on I feel. Hoping to buy something that is just totally different I hope, Going to try and gat that sorted after the exams. Would rather not say too much until I know what's going on myself exactly :)
