Hi Vinny B , just wondering have you any problems with condensation and air circulation within the house as the air tightness has improved or have you compensated that with a ventilation system or did you need one?, interested in doing something similar to what you have done - walltite and sprayfoam

You should try sending Vinny a PM, he has only posted once on Boards.

(Strange how the Walltite debate seems to attract new posters who disappear as soon as they've said their piece.)

Great tread. We are looking at using Walltite CV100 ourselves on a late 1980's house (cavity wall).

    Thanks for the informed posts!

Hi All .... Bubbling did you get Walltite in your house ... I am still interested in getting it done to my house, any comments on it ?

I did it and it was a disaster it gripped the blocks in the wall then contracted and pulled the two block leaves of the cavity wall together, cracks everywhere......... But house is warm and good for airtightness.

Thanks rugmtb for the reply ....sounds like a bit of a nightmare result for you, just a few questions if you can answer for me
    1. how old is your house?
    2. what type of house is it .. 2 storey / bungalow
    3. where did the walls crack? are they hairline or very noticeable
    4. had you any other insulation in the cavity before you pumped in walltite?
    5. have you a cavity closing block under the wall plate.?

What did the contractor who installed it have to say about it or is there no come back?

just on your last comment about 'heat and airtightness' it actually does what it is suppose to do you just didn't expect the cracks

thanks again for reply very useful !!!!!

    Hi All,

Some really good info in here and some mixed review. It seems the product itself is very good but some people had issues with cracking during or post install.

Looking at installing Walltite in our house and not sure I'm any closer to pulling the trigger on it. Any recommendations a few years on after having it installed? Any shrinkage or damp concerns?

I'm thinking it might be worth the risk but that horror story from ShivBo I'm having second thoughts

Anyone I can PM about a contractor they used and recommend? I'm sure there is a way to hold the contract liable if any cracking issues occur?

    Thanks

    Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has any recent feedback on use of Walltite in an existing cavity.

I have an existing 1983 built 300mm cavity:

    • 100mm outer leaf brickwork
    • 100mm cavity with approx. 50 polystyrene insulation (installed when built) with remainder of cavity pumped with EPS beads more recently.
    • 100mm inner leaf blockwork, with sand/cement skim internally

I am carrying out a fairly deep retrofit on the house and strongly considering extracting EPS beads and pumping in Walltite.

Feedback is that it is unbeatable in regards to airtightness test results.

But I am still a little hesitant on pulling the trigger on it as there is potential risk with cracking (when product cures and contracts and potentially pulls masonry inwards).

    Any one any feedback?

I cant see you having the contraction issue with the existing EPS boards, but will you knock out all the of eps board when you break up the beads? The shrinkage on a 100mm cavity will be minimal. It would be interesting to know how wide the cavities were on people that got cracking.

I am in the design stage of a passive-certified cavity block build. Walltite was my first choice but the shrinkage concerns me. I wont know how wide a cavity is required until the phpp calcs are done but I expect 200-250mm. I have chickened out and will go beads.
