Get off your ridiculous high horse. A) I was pretty much kidding. B) they get a **** ton of money that other sports don't which makes slagging them fair game C) wa wa wa wa don't you have a bog to go attend do?

    Wow.

I wasn't just talking about your post tbh but the constant stream of silly bitchy comments from all comers including the likes of Jerry Kiernan and some articles by Ian O'Riordan etc.

Your latest post just goes to confirm that really.

So they get money to develop the games, big deal, I don't get why that means we need to see all this sniping at them.

This is an athletics forum. We can't help how great we are.

PS I'm still fitter than every inter county player out there. FACT. :pac:

    Just Kidding :p

As my mam always said to me, sure you'll never get a tan like you will footing turf down at the bog.

Rant: these city folk that don't understand the value of solid day's work.

I think TbL we'll have to bring Billyboy down the country some Friday & show him what we're on about. Maybe a day footing turf followed by a game of Junior B football might help with gaining an understanding ;) we can stick em in corner forward against a right hardy boy at corner back. Then a feed of beer (none of that craft stuff) at least a dozen large bottles of Guinness off the shelf and to round it off the Parkrun in Knocknacarra the following morning.

Neither a rant nor a rave: I find the whole Athletics vs GAA thing quite comical to be honest.

The irony here of course is that the first President of the GAA, Maurice Davin, a Tipperary farmer, was actually a former international Athlete.:D

Don't know the history of Athletics organisations in Ireland but perhaps they were the makers of their own misfortune? Also I remember when I was the youngster I thought the whole BLE vs AAI split very damaging to the sport. This topic is probably worth a thread of its own but perhaps has already been done to death.

It might give him something real to complain about at any rate;)

Old Age:mad: Since I turned 40 last month had a calf strain followed by pelvic misalignment - will be out for another week or 2.

The Jamaican shot putter in Commonwealth Games has exact same build!

True, but that is the right build for a shot putter. Not for a goalkeeper

Posting pictures of and criticism of people who represent their county in amateur sports is a bit low tbh.

Public figure tbf. He was on Sky Sports last night.

Not taking a pop at him personally, but the idea that county players are all super fit

Why not post an outfield player? Be like a GAA fan dismissing athletics and posting a picture of a shot-putter. The lad must be a good/best goalkeeper if he is getting selected.

BTW, are field participants termed 'athletes?'

Also, appearance is only one factor. Many HW boxers are fit as fiddles, and look to be slobby in appearance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭DubOnHoliday

If that player is on a team he's there on merit, chosen by selectors, his commitment etc. I'm sure I could google unfit athletes and post pictures, but it's a bit sad tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,759 ✭✭✭belcarra

In fairness he's there for one thing only I'd imagine and that's his kick outs.
    He's probably built for that.
Why not instead talk about Mickey Newman for Meath?

Don't want to get sucked into a GAA vs Athletics debate. Why can't we all just get along anyway :)

Doesn't always have to be us against them but we rarely hear the stories where GAA and Athletics co-exist and actually benefit each other which happen every day in most parts of the country.

Story of Patsy Forbes GAA legend turned Athlete is a great example - nice piece from the Belly Telly about him here

    http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/columnists/declan-bogue/athletics-veteran-patsy-forbess-way-of-life-serves-to-inspire-30022206.html

Btw the most important attribute for a GAA keeper is his kick-outs so to his weight is completely irrelevant and to hold up a keeper as an example of the physique of a GAA player is a bit disingenuous to say the least.
