I think anyone who is taking exception to the lack of professional contracts needs a bit of a wake up call.

The top down approach will not work. Just look at the race quota in South Africa. Better support structures will lead to better long term options at the very top levels

I think the goals set out for 2023 are pretty achievable.

An expansion of the AIL would be a good medium term goal also
Expanding the club game cant be medium term it needs to be short term as thats part of how game can expand and help build base for future top tier. There is a form of promotion relegation between the provinces and AIL like in mens rugby but the exact format isnt clear. There used to be regionalised 2nd division of AIL with south, north etc but now its provincial leagues only.
But there's no plans for an expansion of the AIL, no plans for more Interpros which would be a better warm up for international duty.

Where and what competitions are all these new players going to play with out a clear goal at the top level to develop or increase games.
    +1
Womens rugby needs changes like what happened to provincial mens sides in late 90s. Change to 6 interpros. Even split time theyre played to help national side like 3 in september, have a november test annually then 3 interpros in december and back to AIL for January building towards 6 Nations.

its not that the 2023 goals are achievable, its that they dont amount to "progression" for the 15s game

consistent 3rd place?? thats not at all progression !!
in the last 6 years the ladies have had 2 winning positions (one grand slam)
one 2nd place and three 3rd positions.....

and they want to view consistent 3rd as progress... well there is truth in the saying that if you stand still you go backwards.

its disgraceful what they are doing to the womens game at a high level.

and all that grass roots progression and goals they include is simply a continuation of a trend rather than any concrete action pushed by the IRFU or branches. Its the hard work of club volunteers which achieve these goals.
To be fair its the very small group of womens development officers as well like Wendy Hickey, Emer O Dowd, Amanada Greensmith etc who're major role in achieving those goals.
The lack of ambition is disappointing but what would you have wanted.
It is annoying about the plans for the very top level but for the top level to really be strong into future the player base must be much much wider and the structures are getting there for that to be the case

USAs Megan Foster is a bloody good defender. Pretty small but manages to be incredibly effective. Their 8, Gray, is pretty handy too. Shame about the red card. Completely the right decision. But the game was never going to be a contest after that. And the USA don’t seem to be able to manage the conditions at all.

I didn't get to it, had a camogie county final to go to with my daughter, watched it on the YouTube stream, poor execution and lack of ball retention really hurt them, the tackling wasn't hectic at times either. We had a bus go from the club to support Beibhinn on her debut and they made lots of noise, it looked like a decent crowd and a good atmosphere. The refereeing was poor generally and led to frustration for both teams, its a conversation for another day but we need to appoint the best referees to these games the players deserve that much.

The team are relatively inexperienced at this level and will take time to gel together, there is good young talent coming through, girls that have played rugby up along from minis with their clubs. I would fear for them in Twickenham that it could be a scarring experience for some, with English players now on fulltime contracts they are on the next level. Hopefully they get some time together this week to fix the easier stuff and can be competitive for most of the game against England.
The learning curve is steep but with proper structures, support and resources we have the talent to be competitive.

    Anyone watch the game yesterday?
Watched a small bit of the game. 37-15 defeat but some good signs in part through the game.

some good play, Considine looks very promising, Naopu, Lyons, Molloy also excellent.
Badly need an outhalf and fullback who can kick more than 15 meters though. Difference between their kicking and the English was stark. Be better off tapping and go on a penalty they get so little ground kciking to the line(which is 50/50 anyway)

Naopu interviewed at the world rugby awards, excellent communicator, I can see why she was made captain

Just finished watching it now. A stirring performance by the Greenettes and a very good game to watch. We have some fine players. Their mastery of the basics and skill levels were impressive and they were very brave. Irish player of the year, the wonderful Doctor Claire Molloy was as good as ever and well deserved her try. Lauren Delaney is a good find and played very well, but we could have done with Niamh Biggs's place kicking. Considine looks like a very exciting prospect. I was surprised by how many of the Irish squad are now playing for English sides.

I presume that Ali Miller is injured?

A brave enough effort so far, but England are in a different class.
