I also have installed Finless 1.1 but this and the original firmware seem to have an issue with Bluetooth as it is not really able to hold a bluetooth connection properly with my LG soundbar!
Haven't tried Bluetooth myself; using an old Windows MCE IR receiver and remote (which also worked with the RPi) to control.
Only antenna in the unit when I had it apart was the wifi one, although I guess it might not be unusual for no antenna with Bluetooth?

For anyone that is interested I got the OpenELEC version for the MK808B plus from the guy on Freaktab. It should be loaded onto Freaktab in next few days but if you want in meantime send me PM....

    please note the following issues
Bluetooth (actually it does not work on any AMLogic OpenELEC builds at the moment)
VC-1 playback (no video at all)
HDMI-CEC is buggy (stops working after several dozen of keypresses)

I will hopefully get to test later on today

I have never done return with Gearbest but I seen on one thread someone had to return a phone and had no issues with full refund.

Strange about the box. I had something similar myself at weekend but with box from UK.

I cant remember on the MXIII is there a light on when you plug in power? does this come on?

Dont mind the plug or box been a bit warm, there is no fan in power so they will get a bit warm. It might be the adapter for the plug as you mention. I would check that first....

Better with match in AV port till you hear a small click but really if you are getting no power to the box then that will not help.....

There should be a red light that comes on when the unit is plugged in and then a blue light when you actually switch it on. At the moment I am getting nothing. The adapter plug has started to get very hot to touch after about 10 mins when you plug it in and the box itself gets a lot hotter than I would expect in the area around the power connection. It's more than what I would call warm. Anyway ended up in a Hardly Normal shop in Naas on the hunt for an adapter. The chap I was dealing with was excellent. The adapter was €25, he would do it for €20 after I told him what it was for. I asked him would he try it out on the box (which I brought with me) in case it didn't work 'cos this would save me a return trip. No problem. He tried it out but still got no power / lights on the box.
As a result of this I have opened a ticket with Gearbest to sort out returning my MXiii. Still not sure whether to get a refund or get a new replacement MXiii from them due to the €17 (I think) cost of return postage and the probability of getting hit with another €18 Customs / An Post handling charge.
Big Thanks to the chap in Hardly Normal. Never got his name. Saved me buying the adapter.

For anyone using a certain wizard on their box that hasn't purchased it for the ridiculous price that he charges, according to him the wizard will cease to work shortly.
    His words
"If any of you are running a device running' D' wizard that has not been purchased directly from us I would remove it now💥💥.

The words bricking boxes were used in the thread, I asked a guy can this be done and he reckons it can as they can add code to do it.

Which thread did you get this from?

Are we not allowed mention it is droidsticks?

They have there own developed wizards which seemingly was available the last while without buying, it is £40 to buy from ebay....

If you have installed it they are updating the code to wipe your box and maybe brick it if you haven't bought from droidsticks....

The driodsticks wizard previously came on an mx2 I bought off aliexpress, granted it may have been free at the time but I found a zip of it online and have it on my mxiii at the moment. I wasn't under the impression that it was self updating as they seem to release different versions of it every few weeks.

Is there anyway to backup the add-ons from it to reinstall manually so to speak without the chance of an update being pushed to brick a box? In saying that I remember years ago in the age of the starview box's the rumor to leave your box off as a signal was being sent down the line at X time to kill the boxs. Granted this is a different setup but scare tactics or not?

Update on OpenELEC on MK808B Plus. Loaded it up this evening, everything very easy, a bit too easy was running through my head. Only problem was trying hold in reset button and push in power at the same time....bit fiddly

So it boots ok, logo is covered with code flashing up when starting. Remember still in beta

More or less got most of my stuff set up in XBMC, the 7 icon skin is not working. Well it works but then you have a blank when you bring up the mini submenu to input text. But I had same problem with Minix yesterday so not sure if that skin is f**ked.

Never checked which version of XBMC installed. never thought

Had to turn off then, was running it on really old TV, is only HD ready and was having issues with it flicking off for a few seconds and then back on. Will put on my proper TV tomorrow and check more then.....

7 icon won't work on Kodi afaik.

There is a Confluence mod in Highways repo which holds 25 icons in video and 10 each on music and programs.

On the Droidsticks wizard there was a whole load of issues around the original coding used for it.

100-120 euro? There is a lot, seems to be a bit of a buzz around the pipo, check bargains forum. It's windows and will run xbmc. Could also fire on Linux on it I would guess

There is the x8-h plus or version 2. I have the x8-h and they finally fixed the software and running very well. I seen today they have same version for the new x8-h

Is it just to run xbmc or you running other apps on it? Is the box close to your router?

It it was my money and just wanted xbmc. Would but cheap box with OpenELEC support and go from there. Stick the other 80 quid or so aside for beer for Leinster match this weekend

Hows the wireless on your X8-H working with the new software BN?
I'm waiting on my X8-h plus, its somewhere in the Netherlands by the looks of things, so should have it by the end of the week.

I never checked but it is supposed to be good, must try it. A lot of the forums saying if putting any distance away theminix would be one of the best

That is only issue I have seen on cheaper boxes, MXQ, MXIII, 808B etc the wifi is poor on them

Thats kinda why I bought it, I can run a cable, but it would mean running it across a fireplace, which I'm trying to avoid.

I saw a review on youtube where the guy had about 40Mb download wirelessly on a laptop, but the Minex was coming in about 22Mb.

    Look at these rip offs.

I don't mind seeing people making a profit but that is ridiculous.

They're not the only ones, another crowd on facebook charging €125-€129 for MXQ box, about €37 on gearbeast.

What is the fastest way to get an MXQ to me?

Am I likely to get hit with extra charges using faster shipping?

I got one in around 7 days. I ended up missing customs on it....Gearbest and DHL is quickest.

It was pure luck that I missed customs.

Tried it on tablet. Looks ok, I dont think I will put 20 icons on main page, don't really like the scroll across

Any other recommended skins out there?

For Kodi? There is also a CCM mod done by someone who escapese available via TV Add ons site I think.

Aeon Nux is good and my skin of choice especially if you use it with Super Favourites add on.

I got an mxiii from Gearbest today via DHL - there are a number of scratches on it, around the ports etc and it clearly has been used before. Any idea whati should do? Returning it isn't reallyan option as i paid 15€ for delivery and 28€ customs - with return postage and potentially a second customs charge i would have spent the full cost of the box

I would contact them and gte a few quid off. I know they do test and load on app's before they ship so as mentioned before on here I would do full factory reset before installing or setting up anything

Take loads of pics straight away and go to Gearbest and see if they will give you some cash back....

You set it up like the following video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw-sabx-4jE

E.g. the icefilms part? or is there easier way :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,337 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

Yeah thanks I will see what they say, even some Gearbest points to go towards a Pipo X7 would be ok as a return is completely out of the question. I know they install some apps which would involve unwrapping and opening the box from the manufacturer but this actually looks like it is a return.

Look for John Harrison YouTube channel. He might have a Aeon skin tutorial.
