Christian broadcaster: Ebola could cleanse US of atheists, gay people, and sluts

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/08/07/christian-broadcaster-ebola-could-cleanse-us-of-atheists-gay-people-and-sluts/
    Raw Story wrote:
A Christian radio host who enthusiastically looks for signs the world will end welcomed the Ebola virus as a cleansing force. “This Ebola epidemic could become a global pandemic and that’s another name for plague,” said broadcaster Rick Wiles on his “Trunews” program.

“It may be the great attitude adjustment that I believe is coming,” Wiles continued. “Ebola could solve America’s problems with atheism, homosexuality, sexual promiscuity, pornography, and abortion.” Wiles was enthusiastic Tuesday about the arrival of Ebola, but Right Wing Watch reported that he warned the previous day that President Barack Obama may intentionally spread the deadly virus through a mandatory and mysterious vaccine.

That would somehow then allow Obama to declare martial law and force Americans into FEMA camps, the religious right broadcaster theorized. “If Ebola becomes a global plague, you better make sure the blood of Jesus is upon you, you better make sure you have been marked by the angels so that you are protected by God,” Wiles warned. “If not, you may be a candidate to meet the Grim Reaper.”

I know it's wrong of me, but I kind of hope he gets it now.

"you better make sure the blood of Jesus is upon you,"
You'd better hope not! Getting blood on you is how it spreads!

Religiosity in the United States is in the midst of what might be called ‘The Great Decline.’ Previous declines in religion pale in comparison. Over the past fifteen years, the drop in religiosity has been twice as great as the decline of the 1960s and 1970s.

If ebola is the harbinger of the end-times, wouldn't he expect/hope primarily that Christians will get it, and will die and go to Heaven and such?

Why, when the end goal of belief is to get into heaven, do believers tend towards the idea that God saves their lives? Surely saving your life is God telling you that you're not (yet) worthy?

Ah, the key to immortality, being a d*ck, I should live forever if God has anything to do with it.

"That's the great thing about Catholicism - it's very vague and no-one knows what its really all about."

    http://www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2014/08/man-in-funny-hat-with-invisible-friends-tells-kids-the-internet-is-bad/
Pope Francis, a man who spends a great deal of time trying to communicate with invisible friends, is telling children the Internet is a waste of time.

Francis is urging kids not to waste time on the Internet, smartphones and television, but to instead spend their time on more productive activities. (Like talking to imaginary friends?)

Speaking before 50,000 German altar servers, Francis said “chatting on the Internet or with smartphones (and) watching TV soap operas” is futile and a waste of time.

“Maybe many young people waste too many hours on futile things,” the Pope said in a short speech to the altar servers, young people who had come to Rome on a pilgrimage.

“Our life is made up of time, and time is a gift from God, so it is important that it be used in good and fruitful actions.”

^ To be fair, I say the same to the kids. There is a whole world out there...

...and we stare out the attic windows at the sky, clouds and mountains for a while as our bedtime "reflections"!

"I can't wait to die and go to heaven and see how life truly should be!"

So why don't you kill yourself?

Because killing yourself is a sin and you'll burn in hell for all eternity. Sorry, you're just going to have to wait until God's ready for you!:)

Can't remember who said it (possibly Penn Jillette), but I remember someone talking about stopping at traffic lights. If you stop at traffic lights, you don't believe 100% in God, because if you did, you'd believe that you'd either be fine going through a red light because God would protect you, or that if you did die or even just crash while going through a red light, that would have been God's plan for you.

Stopping at a red light shows doubt, and using logic and reason over belief in God.

Based on my morning commute, we are clearly still more of a Catholic country than I had thought.

Just like the cyclist who cut across me, ran a red light, and when I passed by later and asked him to try not to be such a d*ck, he flipped me the bird before realising that he was passing Donnybrook church so had to bless himself with the same hand, he nearly took his eye out he was in such a rush to bless himself, such is Gods will apparently.

If being serious, I have a question for you. How do you know that this god person is not simply a voice inside your head? What evidence do you have?

If you aren't my apologies for not detecting same. I am intermittently good at detecting poes.

    @ Brian Shanahan

My apologies, maybe I should have put a smiley after both sentences to make it clearer that I wasn't being serious.

Although I remember hearing the suicide and hell thing as a child, whether at mass or in school, I don't remember.

And here's Jerry Coyne on Robin Williams - a decent, balanced piece including a letter from Stephen Fry (good) and comments from PZ Myers (not good).

Ah, I thought you meant another 'get to heaven early without technically committing suicide' loophole'.
