Which of course, is something to be celebrated.

    Absolutely.

Festival celebrating when God puncked Abraham - what's not to enjoy.

This EID is not the major one then? Bit like asking for st Brigids day rather than Christmas.

    For the other EID, maybe.

I'm curious as to why the OP felt the need to come to A&A to discuss this. .

emm... because its a forum for discussion ?!

Thanks for all the commentary. In the end I have decided to rearrange the class as requested, basically because I am satisfied that the two non muslim students in the class (of four) won't mind. However I may well be opening a can of worms for myself by letting this happen - we shall see...

On an incidental note, it is interesting how many posters on here have assumed that the student is male despite my gender non specific OP

    Its begins like this...................
A little story to illustrate how it will end up.

Over in UK the Halifax Bank prior to becoming a bank was a significant sized Building Society (their claim was to be the largest in the world). Over forty years they gave away free to any children of customers Piggy Banks. Actually they pretty much gave them away to anyone who asked. Over time these Piggy banks evolved into little characters.
Daddy Pig, Mummy pig etc etc.
Obviolusly they were trying to encourage saving at early age & no doubts one eye on them turning into potential customers.

That is until about ten years ago or so, there was a formal complaint made by some representative from the Muslim community in the Midlands. They even picketed the branch that refused to stop giving them away.
A insult to the faith is what they called them. Yes as insidious as those little porcelain pig figurines were the insensitive big Bank carried on

Now, no more free Piggy banks for the children in the midlands or anywhere else in the UK.

So , no dont change the day or I can guarantee it wont stop there..............

I'd say it's just a convenience thing. S/he or she/he takes much longer to type and there seems to be a tacit convention of referring to everyone unknown on the webs as 'he' .

Rule #3601: Everyone on the internet is male until proven otherwise.

What do you mean by "proven otherwise"?

It is what the rule says, exactly how that is understood and followed by others unbelieving in it is not what the rule has laid down, by Internet. Anyone that misunderstands the rule has taken it out of context.

I just assumed a Muslim woman would be at home making halal sandwiches.

Hopefully you won't spend the rest of the term being asked to postpone lectures for Good Friday and Pentecost.

I would be more worried about the Pastafarians.

If he doesn't rearrange class for the Feast of Maximum Occupancy there'll be trouble.

Tell the person to grow up and don't change anything on your schedule. As a working adult he will have to work many "holy"days in his life, might as well learn that from now.
