Could have been worse. The Galway Hurling Board have abandoned their plans for a center at Athenry taking a 2 - 2.5 million hit on the purchase price of the land.

Well, things could always be worse.

But, I don't know when Galway were looking to buy the land.

Plus, Athenry is a more desirable location than Convoy for other reasons.

I`m not condoning the sums spent on county teams, but unless Croke Park steps in and does something about it, I cannot see it changing. Like RSF when it comes to spending vast sums of money you do not have, I would have great doubts about the wisdom of these so called centers of excellence.

Oh I am all in favour of the COE. It is just certain aspects of the procurement that I have issues with.

Procurement seems to be a common denominator in some of these COE`s.

Galway bought land for a hurling one in 2011, well after the Celtic Tiger`s demise, for 2.8 Million. Present value 0.8 Million

lots of high trees along the boundary of the Centre of Excellence..:D

Going back to last week, probably the best analysis of the game I heard was from Enda McGinley on Off the Ball. The more I listen to him the better he is. None of the patronising/smugness that you get from other wonderful chaps - good solid opinion.

Normally I’m all for the Ulster county. But not Tyrone. But, when their supporters spat at the All Ireland winning footballer of the year when he was sitting in the stand recovering from an injury he sustained winning the All Ireland, then that says everything you need to know about them. Up the Dubs

Actually shouted for them for a number of years in their golden era once Donegal were out of the championship. But we all make mistakes in life. Fully behind the 4 in a row

I think the whole country will be behind Dublin in this case.

Quite a few in that boat in Donegal I’d say. Once upon a time I’d have wanted them to win it once we were out. They reached peak obnoxiousness post 2009 though and that ship has long since sailed.

Hope Dublin take them to the cleaners and can’t see them having any support in Ulster. They are impossible to like.

Let's face Mark McHugh was on far too early - his only role now should be to kill time.

What is the deal with McHugh? He played well during the mcguinness years.

That and him loosing the run of himself in general, but for me after that assault on him Gollogly Ulster Final 2013 he was never the same player.
After that final and their antics and that of some of their supporters afterwards, it was a short head yesterday as to which team I wanted to lose as both couldn`t, but after that league match 2013 in Omagh, Tyrone trumped Monaghan.

Going to be new territory supporting the Dubs and them going for 4 in a row, but I`ll get some consolation from the fact it could be 6 if we hadn`t put a halt to their gallop in 2014.

With Tony Mc Entee departing Mayo I believe he would be a useful addition to our backroom team he could help to introduce some steel to our developing team,
Also here's hoping the Dubs make it 4 in a row
C'mon on you boys in blue

Same here. I found myself reluctantly supporting Monaghan yesterday, much to my own amazement.
The fact that I was having a late lunch in my local, and enduring listening to a bunch of obnoxious Tyrone supporters roaring support made that level of support slightly more sincere, lol.

Interesting piece by Chris McNulty today.

It appears that Murphy is now Donegal’s all time leading scorer.

28 - 493 in 142 appearances. 55 points ahead of Colm Anthony. Funny one, would never have thought he was in or around that as there’s never anything said about it.

He was leading scorer from last summer.

The timing of the piece and promotion of it in advance is very odd.

Don’t recall hearing a thing about it until today. Bizzare.

Top goal scorer too despite having not scored a championship goal in so long. Although, Paddy has the worst goal scoring record of anyone. Only 7 in 96 games.

Would have been more interesting to chart the scoring rate through the years. Maybe overlay it with a heat map of position on the pitch.

I see that Div 3 of the Donegal County League is not due to be finished until late October, what kind of BS is that? I thought the whole point of condensing the Club Championship into September was so the league could be wrapped up earlier. Now it appears it will drag on for another 2 months the same as always. The top two teams Killybegs and Buncrana have one game left, but must wait another 2 months to finish the campaign. It is the height of madness and stupidity and as usual the ordinary club player suffers.

Also see Brolly having a pop at McGuinness about defensive tactics in the Indo. In fairness he has a point as that style of play is turning people off, myself included, but the worst is that it is happening in club football. I went to watch my home club play recently in Div 3 and the opposing team played with 15 in their own half from the start, and it wasnt one of the bottom teams. Thankfully our boys managed to win, but seriously Div 3 club football FFS, being destroyed by this muck. Where will it end.

Provisional league fxtures out for 2019.
    Away to Clare, Tipp, Cork.
Home to Meath, Fermanagh, Armagh, Kildare.
    Could be worse.

Four at home looks good, but it`s four at home provided we do not play any of them in O`Donnell Park.

Away to the top three teams by distance from Donegal! Awkward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,463 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

Please play Fermanagh in O'Donnell Park. No interest in going.

Meath and Armagh fixed for Saturdays, so MacCumhaill Park under lights and a chance they will also be shown on Eir 2.

Kildare was in Ballyshannon last year.

I hear Jimmy White was a busy man today. Fun before and during the game. Although I hear the Gweedore lads did wish Maxi a happy birthday.

Could be plenty of incidents. I almost think we’re one big incident away from videoing all games. It’s cheap to do it and if insurance companies insist it on it then it’ll happen.

Don’t listen to the nonsense about seeding that’s about to come your way because Kilcar drew Naomh Conaill. The way it is now is the fairest way.
