Bit disappointed. Had hoped to play some before ESO release this weekend.

That's gonna remove BF4 from my play list for some time methinks.

Ahh well. Maybe it'll be better when I come back.

" Quality is our number one priority and we will not release Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC until we feel it meets the highest quality level possible."

Wait, when did quality become there number one priority - hasn't seemed to matter all that much for the last 5 or so months since launch...oh well, better late than never I suppose.

Some PC servers are using a trick to display the Naval Strike Icon even though it's not available (just in case some of you are getting your hopes up)

As much as I hate R* for delaying GTA, at least they don't release it as a beta a couple of months early :P

A games company can't win, they're damned if they release a bugged version, they're damned if they don't. You don't realise how bad games communities are until you see if from both sides of the divide.

I applaud DICE for the decision to delay the PC release to fix the bugs, but it's the way they worded the post that I found a little bit irritating.

Having worked in software dev I know how complex things can get but this is different. This attitude towards DICE can be summed up by the simple phrase of "loss of consumer confidence". Anyone remember their facebook page post "wishing everyone a happy christmas" and the first reply "f**k off and fix the game with a slew of similiar posts following"

    - The game is broken badly
    - They focus on things like fixing grass physics rather than important aspects
    - Every patch so far has broken the game in a new way, kill cam bug being the most recent
    - Still haven't fixed a gamebreaker IMO which is single player campaign progress save issue
    - DICE break their own promises constantly

And for them to then go and use the word "quality" is very misjudged because they have shown nothing other than complete lack of QA. I mean a 4 year old could have found some of these bugs by playing the game for just 1 minute.

So yeah DICE can't win on this one and you know what they deserve to be in an unwinnable decision as IMO the next release of BF will be terrible in terms of sales figures.

I've 2,500 hours of Battlefield and will I be buying the next one straight away??? Not a chance

    /end rant

Patch notes for the March 25 patch for the PS4. Should be similar to the other platforms going by previous patch notes.

Short version, nades nerfed, M4, m16A4 & G36C buffed, helis nerfed (transport/little bird), buff to attack jets & AA. AC-130 due to be even more annoying (Buffed).

    http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/threadview/2979150493892912380/

    GENERAL FIXES
    -General stability improvements
-Fix for a crash that could occur when players were customizing vehicles.
-Fix for an issue in the Rush game mode where end-of-round screen would always indicate that there were 60 minutes left of the game.
-Fix for an issue where the splash damage for IFV shells, Helicopter rockets, and Mortar rounds was unable to destroy deployed equipment.
-Fix for an issue that could cause the quad bike to explode when it hit indestructible objects.
-Fix for an issue that would cause sniper rifles to display too much bloom when aiming in snowy conditions, especially the outside areas of Operation Locker.
-Fix for an issue where the ECM would sometimes fail to jam incoming missiles.
-Shortened the take-off distances for jets to match the length of the runways in Second Assault maps.
-Fix for going above ceiling exploits in Operation Metro.
-Fix for a new MAV riding exploit.
-Fix for kill camera jittering/strobing sometimes if colliding with other world objects or terrain.
-Fix for soldiers getting catapulted when walking on steep surfaces

    “NETCODE”
-Fix for an issue where the kill camera would display the incorrect killer.
-Fix for an issue where the kill card won’t show up when playing on servers which have the kill camera turned off.
-Fixed an issue where other soldiers would appear to fire in the wrong direction when turning quickly.
-Fix for weapons firing twice, or not at all in some instances.
-Fix for an issue where explosions didn’t do any damage to infantry and vehicles that were outside of the combat area.
-Fix for an issue where late-joining players wouldn’t correctly experience Levolution events on Paracel Storm and Flood Zone.
-Fix for an issue that could cause packet loss.

    PROGRESSION
-Added Gold Battlepacks as rewards for Class Service Stars, allowing players that have reached the max Rank to continue earning new Battlepacks.

    WEAPONS / GADGET TWEAKS
-Increased the damage of the normal buckshot against targets with Body Armor.
-Reduced the vertical recoil of the M4 and M16A4 to give these burst fire weapons a tighter burst accuracy in their mid- to long range role.
-Reduced the side-to-side and first shot recoil of the G36C. This weapon now has the lowest side-to-side recoil of the carbines, giving it a clear controllable low rate of fire role, especially when compared to the AK5C, Type-95B-1 and the AKU-12.
-Tweaked the detonation time of the 40mm LVG so it bounces less before going off. The maximum damage has however been reduced to 80 like the RGO.
-Reduced the number of how many 40mm HE and LVG rounds players can carry, from 4 to 3.
-Increased the time it takes to get new 40mm round from ammo boxes. The time is longer for HE and LVG grenades and shorter for utility grenades like SMK and FLASH.

    GRENADE TWEAKS
-Increased the time it takes to get new RGO IMPACT, V40 MINI, M84 FLASHBANG and M18 SMOKE grenades from ammo boxes. Since the player now carries more of these grenades, the resupply delay needed to be longer to prevent grenade spamming.

    VEHICLE TWEAKS
-Significantly improved the suppression from mounted vehicle weapons, including miniguns, HMGs, LMGs, and all shells types for all armored vehicles.

    AIRCRAFT TWEAKS
-Further reduced the repair rate for the Scout Helicopters and the Transport Helicopters.
-Significantly increased the damage of Transport Helicopter miniguns.
-Changed the flight ceilings on Gulf of Oman, Caspian Border and Operation Firestorm to better match the height of the structures in those levels.
-Adjusted the damage of the 25mm and 30mm cannons for both Attacks Jets and Mobile AA to be equal in Damage Per Second to the 20mm default weapons. These weapons were clearly poorer choices in all circumstances, and their different rates of fire are intended to be the player's choice factor for these weapon systems.

    AC-130 GUNSHIP TWEAKS
-Increased the splash damage and the range at which the JDAM bombs can achieve max splash damage. The JDAM's power was not properly balanced with its difficulty to use. The JDAM remains a primarily anti-vehicle weapon, though this change will increase the effectiveness against all targets.
-Increased the accuracy and direct hit damage of the AC130 40mm cannons. 40mm cannons can now be used to fire pinpoint shots in 2-3 round bursts, enabling them to provide accurate fire on infantry and vehicle targets. Their velocity has also been marginally increased to aid their accuracy.
-Increased the splash damage and range of the AC130 25mm cannons. These cannons now do approximately 50% more damage, in a slightly increased area of impact. The increased damage as well as increased suppression effects will allow the 25mm cannon to fill its role as an area of effect weapon against infantry.

-Fix for weapons firing twice, or not at all in some instances.
Might explain some of the RPG firing delays that I've been getting.
No mention of nerfing or removing zero-skill Active Radar missiles, my main gripe with the game.

It's amazing how much stuff they patch that doesn't really affect me or the way I play. Although I've had little real probelm with the game since I got it.
I admit I was wondering what all the fuss was about the kill cam. Why would that bother people but then you get shot by a sniper and the cam shows a tank behind a hill, it does get annoying.
The AC130 buffs look a bit worrying. I was getting murdered by that thing the other day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭allybhoy

The grenade tweaks they have made should in theory decrease the amount of nade spam on lockers and metro..Decreased damage and capacity of LVG and also increased the amount of time it takes to get resupplied with 40mm and impact and minis from ammo crates...

Fix for an issue where the ECM would sometimes fail to jam incoming missiles.

Thanks god, that is seriously annoying getting hit by missiles after deploying the ECM.

Ac-130 buff sounds worrying though, that thing can already do massive damage if left alone, which it is most of the time cos it's so high up and hard to hit unless you use a sraw..

    (a) stops you seeing someone who's obviously hacking
    (b) stops you seeing where the sniper is so you can go and introduce his face to your PDW :)

It's none of the time if anyone is in any jet or the mobile AA. The thing is free points to jet pilots in most games I've been in.

tbh I can't remember the last time the kill cam worked properly for me, now that I think about it. It's either showed me nothing or the wrong thing. Revenge killings or attempts at same have often been one of my main causes of death, so perhaps it's not a bad thing. :o

Somethings up with EA throwing out DLC's so quickly this year....have a look at BF3 Vs. BF4:

    BF3:
    Back To Karkand (Dec 2011)
    Close Quarters (June 2012)
    Armoured Kill (Sep 2012)
    Aftermath (Dec 2012)
    End Game (Mar 2013)

    BF4:
    China Rising (Dec 2013)
    Second Assault (Feb 2014)
    Naval Strike (Mar 2014)
    Dragons Teeth (Jun 2014)
    Final Stand (Sep 2014)

In all, we're getting all five BF4 DLC's within the space of time it took DICE to put out three DLC's for BF3. Somethings not right here....

Battlefield 5 announcement coming soon?! Or something related? EA need a big shooter this Christmas. Titanfall is out....what else is there?! Battlefront is definitely not finished. Something is coming anyway...

No idea. We might get a surprise at E3. My guess though is that seen as EA only obtained the rights to create Star Wars content in May last year, Battlefront couldn't possibly be in the latter stages of development just one year on.

I think there might be a whole lot more to this police-themed Battlefield rumour....

And if they REALLY felt compelled to say sorry for BF4, they could present it free to all the public who bought BF4.

    Win.

    :D

Maybe whoever is now working on the final few BF4 DLC made a boo boo somewhere on the PC version. Thats why its held back. "The new guys ****ed up... it wasnt us.. we have moved on to something else!!! - DICE".

It's after Naval Strike is released the development is changing from DICE Stockholm to DICE LA.

It's after Naval Strike is released the development is changing from DICE Stockholm to DICE LA.

I'm not really surprised Naval Strike is delayed TBH.

It's this mickey mouse DICE skeleton crew that EA have assigned to iron out BF4 - there's just simply not enough man power focusing on BF4 anymore to give the game any meaningful correction..

    It's the EA way.

I'd say the bulk of resources over at DICE now are being thrown behind the development of Mirrors Edge 2 and Battlefront. If you're a Battlefield 4 player at this stage, you can run and jump...

I said it a couple of weeks ago on here that I was worried DICE L.A were taking over but I'm interested to see what they can offer at this point. Stockholm have other priorities now. Obviously I haven't got my hands on Naval Strike yet but as far as I have seen IMO it seems DICE Stockholm have done the absolute bare-minimum here. Carrier Assault was requested for years following the success of 2142's Titan Mode. The result? Throw two M-Coms on a ship and feck it.....

Where's the Epilogue from 2142? Why don't we get to escape the sinking ship? That's what actually made the mode so fun - a mad dash and they've cut it out altogether. Why is there only two M-Coms? Why no main reactor of sorts?

The same with the hovercrafts promised. Again, bare minimum. A small two-manned glorified golf caddy when they could have given us drivable military tank-carriers like those on Kharg Island in BF3.

Lastly they advertised this DLC to be all about naval warfare, but we still can't sail Destroyers, Aircraft Carriers, Battleships or Submarines (something we could do in previous Battlefield games). When they said stuff about the Submarine I had some hope left over, but once I heard it was part of some levelution gimmick, all that went down the drain.

Don't get me wrong I love Battlefield and it will take hell freezing over for me to go back and play that other modern military abomination - I'm merely requesting that DICE, given all of it's talent and potential, knock the socks off us...

This rant wasn't directed at you MD. :P

To be honest...yeah, all that stuff would be cool, but you've no idea the machines that it takes to run games with that type of stuff in them. The main problem with all this is that the developers are limited to what the consoles can do - not the PCs. Although I've no experience with it, I'd imagine developing for console is simple. Why? Because every PS4 uses the same hardware. Every XBOX has the same hardware - if you find a bug on one PS4, the chances are every PS4 user will have that bug. The same can't be said for PC. A good example for this is Titanfall - 35 Gbs of uncompressed audio files, simply because older PCs (which the developers wanted the game to be able to be run on) would not be able to decompress and render the game at the same time.

But then of course they can't put stuff into the PC version of the game that's not in the console version - it would take too much development time, extra management of different versions, and the whining little kids saying "why isn't this on console".

One of the developers already explained about the performance issues with implementing the epilogue in Carrier Assault.

If you want some of the stuff you're talking about, I'd suggest Arma 3. You need a complete beast of a PC to play this at any sort of decent graphics quality and get over 50-60 FPS, simply because there's so much in the game. If BF4 was this way hardly no one would be able to play it - people on consoles certainly wouldn't, and console players bring in at least 66% of the revenue.

I'll have to start playing on a pc so.

On the 360 its pretty much left to do it's own thing unless I decide to take it out myself with the SRAW (I'm useless in jets)

Anyone flying a jet on the 360 seems too interested in destroying the parked enemy jets, ramming the attack chopper, trying to take out tanks or trying to take out infantry than destroying it. I can't get near it in a chopper either because of the perma-lock from all the igla/stinger meerkats looking up in the sky take a chopper down in about 1.7 seconds.
