SF have no interest that I can see in a coalition with either FF or FG. What I can see happening in the future is a coalition of SF/Lab and other independents to the left. Lab will be decimated next time out at the polls but like FF (despite all the nonsense about their doom spouted by political analysts on here ) they will will re-emerge as a more labour orientated party (that will always have sizable support here).

I agree. There will always be long term support for three main parties here: FF, FG and Labour. Yes, like FF come back so will Labour in a few years. Both FF & Labour will have/already have set out to reform theirselves to be more palatable to the people for the next elections.

Labour will suffer in 2016 but it would be a different story in 2021. Remember how Labour became the second largest party in 1992 and then reverted back the next time to their traditional position as third largest. Likewise, in 2002 Fine Gael almost seemed as if it was on a terminal backwards slide (again, Labour had overtaken it) but by 2007 had again returned to its former position as second biggest party and was biggest party by 2011 with Fianna Fail sliding into 4th place (again, a temporary position).

FF, FG, Labour, SF and Independents are the major forces in Irish politics. They will swap places and go up and down in popularity but will not be decimated like the Greens, PDs and other such parties that either died or were marginalised.

SF could join up with a newly socialised Labour party in the near future as well as other socialist parties like the Workers Party, Socialist Workers Party et al.

It is also true though even Fianna Fail are kind of repositioning themselves as somewhat of a socialist party. I hope this is not socialism Bertie style! Remember the time Bertie claimed he was a socialist!?!!!!:D:(:D:(:D:mad::rolleyes::confused::eek:
