Mobile signal deep inside big stone buildings is generally very bad, which the poster in question said they had problems with.

I actually find there isn't much difference between the cities these days.

That's grand, but I wouldn't drink any of those, and didn't see a lot of options so fell back on what used to be a good value option in Spoons.

@Red Silurian You don't have to use the app to order, but there are no drinks menus anywhere, like there used to be, so have to go online to see range and prices. App is poorly designed also. I only found out the price when the bottle was already opened and presented to me.

@Allinall No problem with using data, except most of the place is in a semi-basement so the signal was next to non-existent.

Anyway the overall point is that the customer experience (at least in that Spoons) has got (even) worse, and the value less, to the point where the drawbacks don't outweigh the still generally lower prices imo.

It depends on what part of Dublin you go to and what you're drinking but in general eating and drinking out in Dublin is much higher priced than Limerick

Did you try asking the barman what the price is? I have the app open now and it shows the price fairly clearly

More importantly, what you were expecting to pay for a 660ml bottle of craft American Pale Ale?

Honestly your story has an auful whiff of a pub owner who lost business when a spoons opened nearby.

I do plenty of eating and drinking in both and I don't find that to be the case.

    Pub owner? ffs 🙄

Maybe engage with the post instead of attacking the poster?

I can't remember what the price used to be in Spoons for that but it used to be good.

As of now I'd have expected to pay about €6.50 or so in a Spoons.

I couldn't get the app to download, after getting my drink I temporarily went up next to the front door which is the only place I could get enough signal to do so, just to see what the other options were. Not great really and nothing like the value there used to be.

Its just verifiably untrue that the value has gotten worse, though. Thats why people are questioning you.

Most spirits are up to -50% compared to neighbouring pubs, and most other drinks -33%. Thats a huge difference. Its not just one or two drinks either, its the entire menu - which is also still a lot larger and more varied compared to a normal pub.

It sounds like you ordered the most expensive item on the menu without checking the price and just want someone to blame. Did you even ask for the staff to give you a menu?

You also can't order on the app without seeing the price of what you're ordering. Its presented to you on the screen when you're browsing the menu, when you select the item, and again when you're paying for it before you submit your card details. So you absolutely did not "only find out the price when the bottle was open and presented to me" if you ordered through the app.

edit: and out of curiosity I just checked, a 375ml Elvis Juce in Brewdog on the docks itself is €6.50. So a 660ml would be €11.42, or about 40% more than your Spoons 660ml for €8.05 price. So Spoons is apparently rather good value even for that specific over priced drink.

You know what you’re getting. Cheap, frozen and processed. It’s grand, fuel essentially
