Just close your eyes and lie down just like you were sleeping normally. That simple.
This way a large part of you still gets normal rest.

Just accept that the remaining part of you is fuked for sleep that night.
At least your body will be ok for the next day if nothing else.
That itself will take off some of the worry. No trickery to it.

circadin [UK version of melatonin] and the benzodiazepine; lorazepam, though prescribed the lorazepam for autism difficulties and unretractable/ status epilepsy seizures-the gp wont prescribe it for severe insomnia, just as well am getting it for something else,it works very well for relaxing the mind at night.

have never not had insomnia and after years of being supported by specialists to change night routines, living environment, coping strategies, diet and life with no success, had found out mine was related to a lack of the hormone; melatonin which is why am prescribed it,because of the strict licencing they only prescribe it to people with autism/LD or those over fifty as we are groups which are associated with lacking melatonin.

it honestly does head in that some people can walk into a gps office after just several days of insomnia and get a script for classic sedatives whereas those of us who have suffered it our entire lives are assumed to only be helped through lifestyle changes, sleep problems arent one size fits all!
everyone shoud have to put effort into changing their lifestyle or anything else as needed before being handed classic sedatives, as otherwise they coud be just setting themselves up for dependency/addiction if they are only prepared to be relieing on the drug.

Didnt think that was something you could get over the counter till now.

It's OTC in theory but just not stocked anywhere in Ireland for some reason. Can buy it on Ebay/Amazon for next to nothing and have a year's supply sent to your door.

I find sex is great for falling asleep (afterwards, haha) but the sleep is always very restless. Something to do with adrenaline or testosterone?

I am never more than ten minutes away from sleep. I can sleep anywhere at anytime, i've never experienced or understood insomnia, I just dont get it. Sleeping is easy, close your eyes, relax and think of nothing.

I'm sure you didn't mean it, but for those who are affected by insomnia, this could be seen as very insensitive.

It's akin to announcing you've never been down, you don't get or understand depression, being happy is easy.

    Often it's not that simple.

I mean no insult, i've just never had a problem with sleeping or insomnia and i dont understand something i've never experienced. To get to sleep i get comfortable, relax and think of nothing. I've many a friend that have problems with their sleeping patterns and its an awful thing, one that fortunately I cant relate too.

Codeine. For racing minds, and jumpiness, and general discomfort. 2 tablets and 15 minutes later I'm zoning out. After which sleep swiftly follows.

    Use drugs.

    If no drugs available then.......
First, never stay in bed that is the worst thing you can do, get up*.
Warm sweet milk** followed by the following, tense up your calf, leg and buttock muscels hold for 15 secs slowly release***, do same for upper body followed by some light stretching.
Now you feel more relaxed and can't stay awake, easy.

*That stops your brain screaming at you, \o/
**That gets your body to produce drugs, \o/
***The release of tension relaxes you, \o/

Read all of War and Peace followed by the film Dr Zhivago.
Your eyelids won't be pried open with a crowbar for days.
Leave the book in an obvious place in case your sent to the hospital.

Turn head to toe in the bed. If that doesn't work, take your quilt and sleep on the floor...

    Stil not working.

    Anyway, in order of preference;

    opioid narcotics,
    barbiturates,
    quaaludes,
    benzodiazepines,
    Z-drugs (zopiclone, zolpidem, zaleplon),
    sedating first generation antihistamines,
    trycylic antidepressants,
    alcohol.

Now heres a paradox, how come my favorite list of drugs for partying is identical to my list of drugs for sleeping ?
