I don't care what the consultant makes or doesn't make, net or gross. If a service was provided and availed of, you pay for it.
It's really not that hard a concept.

The concept is a lot more complex than you imply and a lot more complex than most here realise. If we take the OP at face value he had 3 points of contact with consultant.
    1. OPD consultation which recommended a test. OP paid consultant for this. Consultant was entitled to charge.
    2. Consultant performed a test again for which he was entitled to charge and the OP paid.
    3. Immediately after the test the consultant gave the OP the results of this investigation. The consultant is not entitled to charge for this as the cost of the investigation performed by the consultant includes giving the result.

So if we take the OP at face value (and I am not convinced we should) then there is a real issue here and the consultant is the one in the wrong.

Now if a different consultant performed the tests that would be a different matter.

You mean mechanics expect to be paid when not fixing a problem..?

Comparing a consultant and a mechanic is unfair to both.

Worst case scenario, a mechanic can't fix you car, you scrap it and get a new one. Not exactly the same when dealing with a human body.

You don't pay a doctor for an answer, you pay for an opinion.

    Point of fact for OP.
You didn't pay the consultant anything yet. The tests you paid for we're billed by the hospital, the consultant would not see a cent of that. What he / she would have done is possibly see which test was needed and ordered them or they may have been arranged by someone else.
The consultant does not get paid to order tests. Whether he orders a hundred tests or none, unless he/she is performing a specialised test themself, they get paid the same.
Not everything in medicine has a satisfactory answer and there is still a lot that is unknown to modern medicine. But sometimes just excluding serious / life threatening causes for symptoms is energy well spent.

Not true the consultant performed the main test on me so hes obviously getting paid for that out of the money I paid to the hospital.

We have a consultant in our family and he gets €80,000 net income. Don't try to tell me that I'm wrong.

And that is why you cant be objective and will try and justify anything consultants do no matter how outrageous.

Not necessarily making it up just that you don't understand what you actually paid for. Your reply a few posts ago now confirms this. You said

That is not however how things work. You have 2 bills to pay. The hospital and the consultant. The hospital do not pay the consultant out of the money you gave them. That is a totally separate bill. The €200 the consultant is now charging you is the fee for both the test and the consultation.

You have spent a lot of time here implying all sorts of things about the consultant yet it now appears to be all down to your misunderstanding of how the billing system works. By the way, very few tests cost €200 so you may find, far from overcharging you the consultant actually gave you a discount because you were paying it yourself despite having a medical card.

Haven't payed the bill yet and the deadline was the 30th of august I have not heard anything from them. I think the consultant hasnt followed it up because he knew he was trying to a pull a fast one.

As was said before, you have 2 bills to pay. The hospital and the consultant. You paid the hospital but have decided not to pay the consultant because you believe the hospital should pay him, which they won't. This has been explained to you yet you continue to ignore it. What you have done is the equivalent to shop lifting. Yes you may get away with it but that doesn't make it right

Your wrong the consultant billed me for a "consultation" not the test.

If I'm a "shop lifter" then the consultant is a conman.

You are talking a load if ****e here Jumboman displaying crass ignorance of life never mind healthcare

You come on here giving little titbits of your story and constantly blaming the consultant. Pay your bills. If you want advice then give the full story. I have given you advice already yet you ignore it and blame the consultant.

Did you pay him personally for the test he performed on you? If not then you need to.
If he waived that fee, in other words did the test for free then it would be disgraceful for you not to pay the consultation fee at the very least.

Why engage in a discussion with someone like him? People like that don't listen to reason, they come here to rant and rage at others. He's convinced he's right and you are giving meaning to his delusional little world by replying to him.
This topic was dead and all was well with the world, don't bring it back, just ignore him.
