Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wheel off job again today. Wash, iron x, wash, tar x, wash and a coat of wheel guard and some gel for the tyres.

Curran, is tar x safe on chrome? For the exhaust tips? Is wheel guard a good idea for the exhausts too? They get caked very quickly.

    Cheers

Must order more stuff soon too, ran out of those car pro products today.

    Tar X should be fine.
Try a little on a cloth and bab in on in an out of sight part of the tip.

CG Wheels guard works berilliant on the tips.
    I have used it before..

As vectra says; should be no issues with TarX on the tips.

Anything is better than nothing on the tips, but if you wanted something more durable for the alloys, which can be used on the tips and also on any trim on the car, CarPro DLUX is worth looking at! ;)

Dlux is working as day one on my alloys

Finished work early today so decided to try out the 845 and the dry me crazy towel I picked up during the week

    Snow foamed with odk
    Washed with AG
    CG Black light
    845
Wheels done with BH auto wheel. Then gave them a coat of 845 too for the fun of it.

Happy enough with the result. Need to get time and do the wheels off the car.

Used Carpro inside today but wasn't too sure if I was using it correctly.
Are you meant to spray the entire seat or will one or two squirts do ?
Also I used a cheap microfiber cloth, are you better off using a brush and finally is it necessary to have to wipe the surface down again with a damp cloth ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Are you just looking to do a spot on fabric or what exactly?

Spray on, agitate with a brush, wipedown with a microfiber.

Full leather job. Just wondering if I was better of using a brush as opposed to a MF cloth to agitate.

A few sprays, enough to mildly wet the area you are cleaning. Agitate with a medium stiffness brush and then wipe clean with a microfiber.

Took advantage of the weather at the weekend and gave the car a good clean.
Wash with BH autowash. Remove Tar & Iron with Korrosol & Autoglym Tar Remover.
    Clay with G3 mitt.
Polish with Optimum GPS - which did a great job of filling swirls. And wax with BH Finis

Used one of the mothers wire scouring pads last week as I was out of brillo pads. 10/10 would recommend to a friend!

I know someone that used one on a three month old car to remove tar. No joke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,450 ✭✭✭JoeA3

My Dad did it many years ago to his relatively new company car. One day I noticed his car was a total swirly mess all down the sides. He wouldn't admit it for ages that he'd "successfully" removed the tar from his car with a Brillo....

Snowed under with college assignments and exams over the past month and a bit. Now I'm finished I finally got around to giving the car a much needed clean, yesterday evening.

Sorry no before or after pictures but two during pic.

Wouldnt call it detailing, but might as well claim it is, to get a post in here of actually having done some car cleaning! :p
Time is never on my side anymore and dont get to spend the time on the car like I used to - breaks my heart!

Very quick wash of both; couldn't not wash hers too! :p

    20160601_192851_zpsprpyvazf.jpg

And before anyone says it; yes, I missed plenty of bits, and my wheels need a refurb! ;)

So gave the interior a clean last night, time was against me so no before pics and the after pics aren't the best either.... but take it from me not been able to touch the car over the past few weeks, resulted in a very messy interior.

    But some after pics

    [IMG][/img]IMG_1149_zpsudamq4e0.jpg

It's very hard to try and keep that black surface dust free... it seems to be like a magnet for dust

    [IMG][/img]IMG_1152_zpswkjgreea.jpg

    Very good product.

For Christ's sake will ya get new wheel centre caps :D

I did a wheel detail yesterday. Again a long and tiring process made worse by the fact that my Fusso went all weird on me by leaving little white spots all over 2 of the wheels. Took me an absolute AGE to buff it all off. Switched to Collinite 845 for the other two and it was a breeze compared to it.

Spent about 20 hours on mam's 07 Civic this weekend because I have a loan of it a while and have been threatening for years to sort it. I'm dying. full paint correction, the amount of swirls in it was sickening and they really stood out in this weather.

I did one side yesterday and the other side and front / back today

    Washed / dried
    detarred with Tar X
    Powerhosed
    Clayed
    Washed / dried

Orange Hexlogic + Menzerna 300 (yes on a jap car, it was that bad)
    White Hexlogic + Menzerna 2500
Black Hexlogic + AutoGlym SRP (I somehow have two 500ml bottles of this)

Powerhosed as there was lots of dust
    Foamed
    Washed / dried

HD Wax, mainly because I havent used it in years and prefer the application to 845

I am in bits will take the "after" shots tomorrow morning and post some photos

Excellent job conzy, fair play to you. The Jap paint is much easier and quicker (hence why I find more rewarding) to correct than German paint.

Could you not have driven the car length ways under the car port?

Haha I thinks its a kestrel das 6. Non pro version

MetzgerMeister and another boardsie have shares in it. Although I think Metgermeister may have bought out his share. Giving him the controlling stake. Its still in my shed though :D

Yeah very rewarding doing the jap paint. I found the menzerna 300 can cake a little, not sure if I was using two much speed and overheating it. Got there in the end anyway.

It would be very hard make money doing this without better technique / equipment. I spent the majority of my weekend doing it.

Yet, people wonder why a detail is so expensive!! ;)

Products used aside; the physical effort put into a job alone, should be enough to warrant the price! :p
Dont think there is many, who, after putting a weekend into a car, says, yeah, I'd do that day in, day out!!

You'd want a lift or ramps so you could work at chest level. The hardest part was the kneeling / sitting on a small stool.

I washed all my gear that evening so they would be nice and fresh for when the cupra arrives. I had a blue fluffasauraus microfibre and a white dry me crazy. I now have a slightly less blue fluffasauraus and a blue dry me crazy :D

Jim White (White Details) is a top notch detailer in the UK and his workspace is superb. He has a lift that brings the car up to chest level so he's sitting down while polishing the skirts, bumpers etc. It's a superbly impressive setup.

Ian in Elite has two also, but doesnt use either! Dont know why!
Polishing any panel that is vertical is a pain in the rocks (arms mostly), with or without a lift.

Unfortunately Car had not seen a power washer in 6 months , or a detail in 12months ++ until two weeks ago when I managed to squeeze in a 2BM Wash, De Contaminate, Clay (mostly to remove 2 part epoxy high solids white over-spray) and 1 Coat of 845.

Unfortunately two weeks ago time didn't allow a 2nd coat of 845 , which I had hoped to do today which sadly ended up only been a Quick 2BM Wash, Touch up with OAC Perfection and attach the Snail Shell in prep for a 2500km + return trip/holiday !

    VQx0HjWl.jpg?1

    FmKB33Al.jpg?1

Hopefully ill get time to finally use the DAP on the micro swirls on my return !

It's a Thule Dynamic L with Thule Wingbar Edge Bars to lower the profile, however do have a look at the Hapro Zenith if your searching, cheaper and better reviews unfortunately I couldn't get in in Ireland when I needed to buy my box.

Seen a lad in the queue infront of me in a shop there buying the holts tar remover, the one that is shyte and leaves white stains on the paint. Yer man behind the counter said petrol works just as well. To that he replied, no petrol just fades the paint.

He reckoned the holts stuff was brilliant, unbeatable......
