The exhausts look particularly well- what would you recommend in relation to preparatory work regarding the back box?

Went down to the garage to wash the car today, it was busy so lots of cars driving past while I was trying to wash it, the drainage is awful so I ended up stepping in massive puddles constantly and the washer I was using stopped working so I had to move to the next one.

Used a very weak mixture of the Bilt Hamber prewash in the pump pressure sprayer, then rinsed off. Tried to fill the buckets with the pressure washer which was a nightmare as it's too powerful so I spent €2 on filling half of each bucket.

Two bucket method, Auto Glym body shampoo and a madness incredimitt. Rinsed off and used a not so thirsty Microfiber madness towel, it was only 500g/m and it wasn't great but that's all they really had in the Detailing Shed, all the good towels are out of stock.

Didn't scrub the wheels, apply tyre dressing or apply spray wax because I was fed up at this stage and it started raining. Water spots on the side mirrors so I'll have to do them when it's dry.

Got a few before pictures but no after yet. Couple of spots of dirt in the lower sills but for the most part the dirt is gone. The pressure washer was quite powerful but I did my best to try keep a distance in the narrow space I had.

All in all, quite a disaster. Might drive to a different garage next time and I'll fill the buckets before washing off the prewash. Might to the wheels and tyres tomorrow so it will make it look better overall.

Hopefully I can get a better towel, the one I had went from plush to matted/wet pretty quickly. I don't think it's really suited for drying the body, maybe for buffing?

Why on earth would you wash your car today?! :pac:

It wasn't raining when I did it and there was lots of dirt accumulated around the boot/bumper :(

I hear it's going to be raining for the next week so won't get any sort of detailing done and I'll probably need to wash it again anyway :(

Yeah, the 500gsm towel is never going to be a drying towel. Its a buffing towel. The Microfiber Madness drying towel is the Dry Me Crazy (white) and is 1200gsm, and a totally different pile of microfiber.

Funny thing is it was at the height of the bad weather and she was sweeping all the panels?¿

    Some fruit loops out there.

Just in the middle of washing claying and waxing car. Regular Sunday morning workout. Just a quick note on lifeshine. I know it doesn't have a great rep but I definitely noticed less containmination coming from the paint work while claying. Car is only 4 months old so maybe that's more of the reason... Back to waxing..

Finished about an hour and half and still wrecked :)

    Snow foamed
    Two bucket wash
    Clayed
    Dried
    Two coats of wax.

Didn't bother with interior as can do that any day. Wanted to get some wax on it for the winter months ahead. That do me now till January on the waxing front. Will still wash every couple of weeks

Finally got off by behind and gave the car and the motorhome a quick clean. The procedure was
    1. Rinse down with water to remove the crap from Ophelia
    2. Snowfoam with BH Autofoam
    3. Rinse down
    4. Wash with AG shampoo and the two bucket method (and a large wheel woolie strapped to a length of timber to reach the roof of the Ducato)
    5. Dry with a Dry-Me-Crazy
    6. The Leon got a quick going over with AG Rapid Detailer as I want to use it up.

    Photos are

    20171022_164517.jpg?dl=1

Ya the Leon needs another coat of CarPro Reload but I didn't have time to properly decontaminate, detar, etc. and the Ducato needs the same.

Also, Ya I know, there's a rather dirty Skoda in the background that needs a decent clean..........

Somehow I got talked into cycling 35km of mountain bike trails next weekend. I imagine it will take about 4 to 4.5 hours and it's going to be "fun". Who needs a gym when I've got that ahead of me....

Okay so not washed the car probably since August and done a lot of road trips to all ends of the country so she was well dirty but waxed up in April so all surface only.

    APC all over, rinse
    Foamwash, rinse
    Two bucket hand wash
    Hand dry
De tar but not sure will I do this like I did today again, not a lot came off and the oily residue was unwanted, think I might just spot detar in the future
    Rinse
    Hand dry
Iron out, again very little on the paintwork and not that much from the wheels
    Hand dry
Claybar (but forgot to do the roof:rolleyes:)
    Rinse
    Hand dry
    Double glaze
    Double Collinite
    Tyre dressing

Don't mind saying back wrecked, 5 hours from start to finish and only break was the detar and ironout while they did their business.
Just one or two minor scratches so no correction
Big car downside I suppose, should be well sealed now for the Winter, gloomy day for pics but at least that's the better weather for detailing...

    General before shot

Wheel area the worst as usual

    Wheel afterwards

    Gloomy but still some reflections

    Great job.
Only thing is, The double Glaze under the collie witll definitely shorten the life of the collie, So you may not get the winter out of it.

I seen my neighbour cleaning his headlights with petrol this evening.

My car is in a very bad need of a full going over. In fairness the Gtechniq Liquid Crystal is still holding up on it

    Yes,
Whatever the durability of the glaze is. Once that starts to fail, the collie will also start to fall off.
Better off with a good prep.
Hand polish if you wish, Wipedown with something like Carpro Erasor. Then 2 coats of Collie on bare paint. Gives the best durability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Glaze on its own might last 2 weeks
Collinite on well prep'd, bare paintwork might last 3-4 months
Collinite layered on Glaze might last up to 2 months

The layered products are only as good as the weakest link, but the upper layers will help extend the life of the weaker link.

Its gas the difference wax makes... could actually hear the water rolling off the car this morning pulling out of the driveway after the rain last night.

Gave the car it's second wash the other day. Brought it to my mam's house this time. The power washer was missing the hose inlet connection and the hose itself was a screw on hose for outdoor taps so I couldn't use either of them.

Cleaned the wheels with the wheel Woolies for the first time but it was a pain as I couldn't get a proper rinse with the pump sprayer so dirty water kept accumulating at the bottom requiring extra rinsing.

Prewash with BH Surfex HD and a rinse. The tree outside my mam's house had these tiny flower like hard debris that the pressure pump didn't rinse off, as a result it kept getting stuck in my mitt so I had to spend extra time checking it and removing them.

Two bucket method, took forever to fill with the tap and the Auto Glym body shampoo didn't lather up much, probably better with a hose.

As my towel is a buffing towel I used Auto Glym Rapid Wax when the car was wet. It seemed to buff ok but some spots felt sticky with the towel and some spots just glided nicely. I was washing in the sun at lunchtime so not ideal conditions. Seems to have given it a little bit of extra shine. Didn't dress the tyres which would have added to the overall attempt.

I'm not looking to get a high level detail, if I just give it a decent wash each week or two I think it would look a lot better than being detailed once a month, where it would be dirty for 2 weeks. The wheels were fairly dirty but the body wasn't too bad, just light spots of dirt. Of course a wash still made a big difference. As soon as I get some sort of pressure washer or hose sorted it will take the time and effort out of washing which is good as I intend to wash it every 1-2 weeks to keep it looking clean and they will make it less of a chore and more enjoyable.

I'm afraid that my prewash isn't doing a great job and without a pressure washer I'm pushing dirt around. I'll see if I can at least get a regular hose to rinse the car properly.

Maybe third time's the charm! No before pictures, but I think it looks ok for my second wash, sorry the pictures aren't great :(

I usually wax on a dry car. Is the rapid wax meant to go on a wet surface?
