Did anyone hear the Delta transmissions to the tower earlier? When the ATCO asked if there was anything to report, the pilot replied "yeah, I need new underwear" just saw it doing the rounds on twitter, didn't actually hear it myself. If anyone can get a link to it, it would be much appreciated, I'm on my phone so can't get the link!

Hmm. Tower seems to be awfully quiet, where as ground has 70+ listeners and lots of activity.

Is this normal? Thought it was usually the tower that was popular.

    Nevermind.

Someone else might be thinking the same, so:

There are 3 different people sending dublin feeds out.

We each decide for ourselves what freq to feed.

Mine is the first of the three and I try to feed all the relevant freq's. This means some transmissions are missed as only one freq can be heard at any one time.

The other feeders run "tighter" feeds that may be of more interest to people that dont want to miss anything on a certain freq.

I havent listened to the other two feeds, so I cant comment on the quality of reception but im told mine is pretty good. A lot depends on location and quality of antenna / coax / scanner / soundcard / connections etc.

We need all three feeders as any amount of problems can cause a single feed to go down so redundancy is important.

    Any questions just ask.
    Pat.

As Dublin gets quite busy we can split the airspace into 4 sectors for traffic. Split horizontally and vertically. Horizontally through the runway so anything north of 10/28 is obviously a north sector and south is south, further it's split vertically at FL125 so below that is lower above is upper so you can get four sectors north lower, north upper, south lower and south upper.

Clearance delivery is a position in the tower that's there to reduce workload on the ground controller, this position deals with issuing clearances to aircraft before they push back giving them their departure, code and frequency etc, they also deal with some other slot issues.

FIS is flight information service, also a workload reducing position for the four sectors above, this position they talk to traffic in and out of Weston and any other small airfields so basically the small aircraft that might clog up the other frequencies telling them where they are going etc.

    Its the Dublin ATIS, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Terminal_Information_Service

I stick it on the feed every now and again just for people like yourself to hear it.

Sounds abit odd compared to ATIS's from other airports.

Anyone listening? I am running another bank of freq to fill the quiet time, most are one sided reception, but its gotta be better than silence.

One button press here puts us back to normal..

    Any comments?

    What happened with the milk?

Mech how easy would it be to change to other frequencies which may have more activity during the quiet night hours? I don't quite know what I'm thinking of here; is there anything interesting on the ops of EI and FR at these times?

Someone (probably you) has likely already thought of this before and it's a non-starter!

try that, they are now on but nothing up there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,149 ✭✭✭Mech1

    You're a different sort of fantastic :P

What do you mean by aircraft over Ireland - the Shanwick feed?

If you or anyone else wants other stuff on (as there does be a good bit at night still anyway) please completely ignore me at any time!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,179 ✭✭✭✭fr336

I feel I asked too early actually - there will still be stuff going on at this time on the regular feeds (there certainly was a few minutes ago) and I don't want to be deprive the 20 currently listening in!!
