Youd think there would be plenty of room in an A8 for 2 kids.
A bit O/T but a friend of mine runs an A8L (3.0 tdi), and we recently did a boys'weekend over to North East France (from northern UK): I can vouch that it will carry 800 bottles of wine (3/4 in 6-bottle crates, 1/4 as boxes-with-a-tap) without you ever noticing the slightest bit of weight/balance/etc. difference at the wheel, whatsoever. With room to spare for another 200+ bottles or so (looked like)

I think the Eurotunnel XRay customs guys were still rolling on the floor laughing, before any one of them could flag us down for a look-see :D

I'd prefer the '98 as it is the proper engine for that car.
Spec is probably much better too tbh, considering it's a UK car.

There is a 535i for under 500 on dd at the moment, I would be all over this in a heartbeat if it weren't in cork and dodgy looking ad

Incredibly cheap. A micra from the same year would cost you more.

Some price! Would you not just buy it anyhow? Wheels and tyres are worth the EUR450.

If there was ever a candidate for export that would be it.
You'd make a killing on that abroad I think.
I'd say if you showed up with 900e in cash you'd be driving home crying with laughter!
God bless Ireland's ridiculous tax law :D

The state of their calculations. I bet if I imported the exact same car then my VRT would no way in hell be 476e.

Is it not 750 minimum unless it's a classic

To be fair, any car I've ever checked, the prices have been identical less the 500 charge of course. I have not been checking stuff of low value though.
There are a few cars out there that will turn a profit if exported though Thanks to very large cheques from revenue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,944 ✭✭✭✭bear1

I think I worded it wrong, what I meant is that their VRT calculations for EXPORTING seem low but then for IMPORTING for instance that Jag I seriously doubt they would be quoting me 476e.

Just did a calculation there with the VRT for importing.
720e -> as I said before, the VRT will always get their money

The import / export figures are always the same apart from the 500 charge.
The only reason the jag is different is because it's running into the minimum payment amount.

Dont those V8's have alot of trouble with nikasil and timing chain issues ? Could be spewing oil.

id be doing thorough checks on it before buying anything.

The Nikasil bore-liners thing should have been addressed by a recall. As for the timing chain tensioners, the plastic-bodied ones are the bad 'uns - they should be swapped out as a matter of course, and replaced with the metal-case ones used in the later 4.2 V8s.

Ceramic actually, but aye, another weak point in the older AJ-V8.
