    An example using this template

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/s500-lwbone-ownervery-low-mileage/27427097?campaign=3

    NGNkZmU3ZjYwOWU0M2U2Yjg5Y2MxMmNkZDk5NDY0MTWLzQYvKCO7HSMIXmP2geDHaHR0cDovL3MzLWV1LXdlc3QtMS5hbWF6b25hd3MuY29tL2RvbmVkZWFsLmllLXBob3Rvcy9waG90b18xNzM1ODE4NjN8fHw2MDB4NjAwfHx8fHx8fHw=.jpeg

    1a - 6 points

    1b - 8 points

    2 - 8 points

    3 - 18 points

    4 - 10 points

Maybe I missed one or two things, but 50/120 is a bit disappointing. Options that this might have, but can't be seen, would be: ambient lighting (4 points), rear vanity mirrors (6 points), rear mood lighting (6 points), leather stitched dash (10 points) - if this counts:

    ZDliOTZhZjBlMDk5MGZjMThkMWY4NWFjMGZiMDgwZGLkiLJ3jeZ7puPRA3yCk30IaHR0cDovL3MzLWV1LXdlc3QtMS5hbWF6b25hd3MuY29tL2RvbmVkZWFsLmllLXBob3Rvcy9waG90b18xNzM1ODE4Njh8fHw2MDB4NjAwfHx8fHx8fHw=.jpeg

    There is some stitching.

stitched leather, panoramic roof and since its a lwb id bet it has the rear vanity mirrors in the ceiling.

It also has the little vents behind the seat and a rear tray table so I bet it has the multi contour seats with massage.

However, my wife's top spec 142 citroen picasso gets an impressive 70 points!! :-)

We must rethink this game. I suggest Tier 1 being the make of vehicle :pac:

    Bit confusing but here goes:
    Tier 1, All = 7
Options Tier 1, All = 12 (Parking and night camer - is that worth 2 or 4?)

    Tier 2, All = 36
Tier 3, 24 - Don't know if there is rear control for the ambient light in the rear. Thinks its just the one setting for the entire car.
Tier 4, 30 - The rear armrest folds down with all the rear controls for the seats and entertainment system. So lost 10 points there for that.

So looks like mine is 109.

However I don't see a private rear phone system, heated steering, rear tables, keyless go, heated washer bottle and most important LWB. Surely extar legroom in the back is part and parcel of being fully loaded?

    What about turbos??

a barge wafts not surges, they are nice but award no points :pac:

if I give points for turbos we'd have lads with 730d's out-pointing lads in 740i's and we can't have that.

Have we had this 350 - looks well presented. Has a Pirelli fitted so thats something. Rear could do with a little tidy pn bumper and boot but not bad for the money I reckon if it all checked out. Bit of tax and NCT still on it.

Fair enough - so one trubo doesn't count?? It can still waft if you gently caress the pedal.

I think youre in the very enviable position of having one of the few turbo petrol V engines available, between the S and the audi S8 i think those are the only two barges (excluding fancy alpina models or anything before anyone starts) that have such an option, in terms of trying to keep any rating very general i think leaving turbos score points would skew it for diesels and the rare unicorn petrol turbo barges.

Be proud I have to leave it out to stop your car dominating the barge score :pac:

my two LS400s back in the day would score very low on those and there is no world where they are not firmly in barge territory

There's no doubting their status as barges, but they're not fully-loaded barges.

LS400s had car phones, heated seats, auto dim rear view, I believe bose(yes the speaker company) adjustable suspension was a us option , premium audio,

The LS430 really took lexus to propper fully loaded barge town though.

But the LS was loaded for it's time, so should be considered 'fully loaded'. You can't argue that a car doesn't have options that were unavailable at the time it was ordered.

If that's the case a fully loaded 1990 Toyota Century or E32 750iL could never be a barge in today's world.

I think it's all a case of perception.

It is definitely time dependent , its why I didnt want to add things like heads up display or lane keeping etc.. this is a thread for 5k barges and most in the post 2000 era were all looking at now do have these options, its just a bit of fun really, nobody is doubting the bargy qualities of an old LS or an e32 , that said finding an e32 for under 5k or a decent LS for that money is getting harder and harder

It probably is a generational thing. Different requirements for "fully-loaded" depending on the decade.

That being said, what options can you get on the latest S-Class that weren't available 10 or 15 years ago? Has progress slowed?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,882 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

donedeal people would have you think fully loaded is leather and remote central locking

On the infotainment side - lightyears ahead , on the actual driving systems and true luxury features theres been little progress in material quality and aside from adding a scent diffuser or better AI suspension systems theres not a lot that makes it more confortable

I'd argue the actual features have still changed very little.

Things get a bit flashier looking, better graphics, faster response, but not much else. I'd say it's only in the last 5 years that cars have Bluetooth and USB ports as standard, very few cars have USB ports where you actually need them, like outside the glove box or centre console.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,882 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

That recently new A8 has the system where it squats or lifts in side impacts. must be other stuff like that which will only reveal itself as a rare option when we are buying them for 5k in 15 years

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭Lurching

I wonder whether €5k is a good number to limit this thread by nowadays.
Sub €5k is entering ruined high-miler territory now.

Decent looking machines tend to be just over €5k now.

I know the cut-off was changed a few years ago. What was it before that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,074 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

There was no limit until a few years ago.

IMO this thread was better with no price limit, always good to be able to discuss a barge of any price point when something interesting pops up on Donedeal.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 19,426 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sam Russell

Perhaps there should be a lower limit on the cars original list price - say €80,000 or €100,000 and a 90% or 95% depreciation.

High mileage and high owner count tend to reduce the price - often turning them into undesirable cars.

    The key should be desirability.

Maybe a 'Luxobarge' and a 'Luxobargeonomics' thread?

    Luxobargeonomics sounds a bit German.:)

I think you may be misunderstanding the discussion. Nobody is saying that they're not barges, they're saying that they don't count as "fully loaded" barges. So your example of an E32 750iL was, and always will be, a barge. But whether it qualifies as fully loaded will depend on the options it came with. :)

There was no limit until a few years ago.

IMO this thread was better with no price limit, always good to be able to discuss a barge of any price point when something interesting pops up on Donedeal.

How often do people keep to the limit though/ Plenty of cars here are over €5k.

A price limit keeps it interesting. You can post high-cost cars all day long, but the cheap gems are what makes this thread interesting.
