Great news. Now, just need another hat trick in Paris next March.

Good stuff, this time next year the WC will be in sight and I've said all along I wouldn't be that shocked if he ploughed on through to 2015, still on the unlikely side but not impossible.

Anyway good news for Schmidt and for the young bucks who will learn so much from him.

Good stuff. Is it a central or Leinster contract? I'd imagine a Leinster one.

This will be his last year, I don't think his body could take him to another World Cup at this stage tbh.

Amazing news. he still has it in fairness, too early for him to go. The fans love him too, the smirk from him when the RDS chanted "One More Year" was quality.

Well Browne made the announcement so I'd have thought central.

The top 50 players have their contracts directly with the IRFU. So they can't choose to stop playing for country and keep paying for their club

Great news, hopefully scores the winning try in Paris to seal the slam!!! We can live and hope....

SOB isn't one of Ireland's top 50 players apparently..

He is employed by the IRFU, it's just not a central contract.

I think all Irish Qualified players who play in Ireland have in their contracts that they can't refuse a call up regardless if they're on a central or provincial contract.

I wonder is a little part of Eoin O'Malley is thinking "ah crap..." :D

I'm sure he's been thinking that all season after BOD's various injuries and suspensions, he would have had free reign over the 13 shirt for several big games

He's Brian O'Driscoll, he could demand that his contract state that Leinster Academy players have their organs harvested and given to him to prolong his career and he'd get it. If he said he didn't want to play for the national side any more, he'd still get a contract (presumably for less money).

It's irrelevant though, he's staying on to play for Ireland and Joe just as much (more probably) as for Leinster.

I wonder was one of his conditions that he got the Irish captaincy back?...

Ah BOD has class, I doubt that even crossed his mind.

Can't imagine he'd want to put Schmidt in that sort of position either.

"Good morning, IRFU, how may I direct your call?"

    "Howya boy, its Ronan here."

    "Ronan who?"

    "Ronan....Ronan O'Gara!"

"oh right, hello Ronan. What can we do for you?"

"Ive changed my mind, where can I get one of those pre-retirement, play the odd game for a year, victory lap contracts?"

    "Sorry, a what?"

"The yoke you just gave the O'Driscoll lad there"

"(Chuckles) oh that, ehhhh sorry Ronan, I dont think so, but thanks for the call" *click*

    "Langers!"

I think there's a good chance Schmidt could give him the captaincy for that one year

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,845 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

O'Driscoll shouldn't be Ireland captain again, there'd be more upset in undoing the error, besides which he probably will only play selected games.

Better let him off doing what he does best, playing 7,9 and 13 all at once.......!

I'd actually like to see ROG staying on too. Think his Irish situation was handled horribly, would like to see him get a testimonial at the least and he could still play a big part at Munster for a season.
