12 hours sounds like a full enough day to me tho. Ur prob getting 10 real hours done a day that's fairly good . I can't seem to concentrate that long at all

I worry about audit too :-/ but I don't think studying the textbook would help much, maybe for audit opinion or fraud I guess?

Lol I wish it was 10 hours, my breaks start off as a quick game on the phone and turn into at least half an hour dossing!

Cases in the morning technical in the afternoon elective in the evening looks like the possible set up for the next 2 weeks

Yeah I don't work in audit so I am not good with it and I have really neglected it. Hopefully it won't be so bad, I was told you would pick it up from the cases but you are right the textbook is not the way to know.

Think it's the people that make the standard hard for the Fae s people are doing crazy crazy amounts of work !! I defo did nt study like this for collage and was fine. Like even cap 2 I had 2 weeks off for them and was fine. More time you have the more you can lose perspective

when you say crazy how crazy? do you think you are at disadvantage with less time? i only went on study week last fri week?

Yes defo like going to chartered grinds school opened my eyes for me last year talking to some people who were doing most night s since like jan and then full day etc since june. How can people in industry with 3/4 weeks compete with that consider prob all relatively the same level starting out.

I have to travel back to Kilkenny later so trying to do until lunch time today so I don't feel guilty bout doing nothing for the night. I m barely getting through 2 cases a day I m piss arsing around so much

Another Sunday, think i will do a few hours of technical stuff today, and leave the cases to every evening next week.

A big 2 weeks ahead, Im still working on my technique for structuring and responding to indicators.

Its difficult to get the level of detail you need wrote down in the time allocated to each indicator.

Don't feel guilty, only so much you can do! I'm taking today off, only got a couple of cases done yesterday. Trying again tomorrow, hopefully with a fresh head!

Anyone do Doody PLC ?? For the performance evaluation did people get that level of detail without looking at the solution . I could nt write any where near that in the time given. Prob would nt even think to write all that if I had an hour...

Does anyone know roughly how many people sitting APM this year in comparison to other years .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Just tried Trident NPV there and got it so wrong as I picked up the piece about new customer increasing wrong so ended up with very wrong calc ;(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

I'm hit or miss with NPV calculations, there's always something tricky to catch you out... haven't tried that other case you mentioned for the performance management, was there a lot of detail to it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

It was ok I taught until I looked at the solution ;( not that much detail but a few tricky bits like 12 year NPV with tax in remaining years so looking a bit at annuity and all that .

    Biggest issue was defo time

Ok I might be totally stupid here - but do most people know the general language of each country time zone s and all that kinda detail. Came to doing the 2012 paper trident and its cultural and practical issue s of doing business in Kenya. I knew the thing I needed to comment on but had no general knowledge of Kenya. Are people pulling general details together of each country for things like this

Chapter 5 briefly discusses exiting a market - I think it's really just about looking at alternative options and the costs involved in exit

Thanks a million - I ve gone through that whole book ( even tabbed that section ) then doing the cases I can't seem to remember everything that was in it !! Org structure is not my friend either ;(

Think I have to start doing a bit of technical in the evenings again. Go back through the book !!

How s ur study going ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

Same, there's so much to try and remember!

Going okay I think, revisiting the theory and technical stuff for a few days at least, cases have made me lose it a bit. Just reading over notes again, making notes, tabbing the books etc. Trying to be strict from now on not to waste time, wonder how long it'll last lol. How are you getting on now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

It's going so slow really - I was defo more focused when had core last year ! have you all the APM cases done ... There s 2 week left - how much more time do you plan on spending on elective ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

No I've tried not to do as many elective cases since there are so few... I have the 2010 and 2011 mock and actual papers left to practice. Not sure how much time to spend on it now, at least a few days specifically for APM!

I think it's going slow for everyone if that's any comfort, for me there doesn't seem to be the same pressure or motivation, this time last year I was a bundle of stress not to be approached! I think staying calm and being positive as someone suggested is definitely the way forward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Ya it's so hard to know what's the right way to be spending your time. Have you gone through the book/ questions in book a few times or just the once tabbing what you could...

What did you miss out on last year ? Did you do APM elective last year or have you changed over to it.Just hoping there nice with the paper this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

Haven't done all of the green book questions, I've done most ones recommended from the class notes (unless they're waffly, then I just read them out of boredom tbh lol!)

No this is my first year at FAE, hoping they're nice with it too, the level of difficulty definitely is different year on year!

Wonder how many people are doing this paper this year and how it will impact on the level of sufficiency needed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Oh sorry when u said this time last year I taught u meant on these.. Ya the pass rate in APM went from 95% to 82% then down to 70% it was the lowest pass rate of the electives last year. Like if there is 200 people doing it that means 60 of that 200 are gonna fail ;( ..... Ha positive thinking an all !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭kb6536

How did you get on in the mock? I was in the 6th decile which was not promising at all!

Hopefully if the pass rate was the lowest maybe they'll make it a bit easier/manageable

    What sufficiency did you have.

I was decile 4 sufficiency 3 but had nt studied before it. but I would nt read too much into that. I was decile 3 in audit last year and dropped to decile 9 for the real thing and taught I had done great got a bit of a shock so it's very dependant on how you perform on the day...!!
