Hey guys looking at Doody Plc - performance evaluation .... Did people write answers someway similar to this I seem very far off the standard

Some yes and some no, there are so many ways to evaluate performance I wouldn't get too caught up on the answer in fact unless its calcs I never really do because there are a lot of things the solutions don't have that will get you the same credit

Ya I just find I'm only writing short sentences on each thing and I'm linking but no where near as good as they are with that one anyways. I'm not great at waffling I just write the point and move on.

On a brighter note my mum is coming home from hospital today so at least I am go full steam ahead now.

    Quick question -

Can someone look at mixture plc and bison ...

Why in mixture is the interest on the blocked fund remitted home and also used to calculate next years interest and released in final year and it bison the interest is just remitted home ?? It's driving me crazy ... Any ideas people .. Becoz I really think this will be on it .

Just did the 2012 paper there under exam conditions - being a harsh self marker I would have gotten roughly 5 competent the rest reaching and made a total mess of the cost benefit analysis of the SSC but had reasonable narrative.

What would one think is required to get over the line in this subject

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

You would be well well over the line with that. I reacon 3 competent and rest reaching comp would even get ya over the line.

Had you seen or done the paper before. I'm re doing the paper s and when I get them I'm half afraid that its only coz I'm remembering the general way they had done it from seeing it before. We re you providing as long answers as the solution ??

No it was fresh. Hadn't done it before. Sim 1 and 2 were very manageable I made a meal of sim 3. Timing is a killer.

Don't think it's possible to write the same amount as in the solutions in the given time but made most of the relevant points.

Speed and accuracy in doing the calculations is key in my eyes - if you get bogged down or have to re do the calculations it's an up hill battle

Well think u should go concentrate on core coz ur flying it in this. Everyone was saying 2012 was harder than other years so if ur getting 5 competents in it being harsh then ur home dry

Did you just read green book and do the cases ?? Did you do outside research on it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭MoMo1987

No just the book and general business knowledge - there is only so many topics that come up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

Ya I think coz it's my only subject that I'm totally over thinking things... This time next week will be just about putting pen to paper nearly finished woo

Stop I am just dreading core - I feel so under prepared and every case I attempt I don't think I am getting past RC in most

Any advise for the last couple of days considering you passed it last year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

I Wrote out the six subjects on a page on the core day and when I was doing plan seen what related to each subject making sure I had at least one strong answer for each and more for PM & BL. Then that night knew what i needed to focus on for the next day. Time is prob the biggest killer remember if u don't have at least one strong ans on a subject over the 2 days u can't pass. Need at least 2 indicators on audit tax finance and imp so make sure u do .

Last year I kept doing cases up to the last night u feel like ur not learning but they are sample cases - they have tried to find stuff not in other cases to teach u... The real exam will be easier than most of them.

My hope is that everyone will concentrate on core and the standard for elective will be low so little easier for everyone to pass

That's a good website to keep you up to date and they have monthly articles on exchange rates, irish property market etc.

I would just keep in mind the irish banking sector no backup plan when ulster banks services failed etc

Ryanair being forced to reduce its stake in aer lingus

Property prices recovering slightly but place no reliance on historic valuations

The banks are currently doing deals over debt i.e. reductions, refinancing, writing off portions and restructuring residual amounts.

We have the ongoing situation in Syria, how does that effect confidence in the markets etc? Exchange rates!

Just be opened minded, I would have a table of current exchange rates in the exam so if they give you one you are able to say its realistic, unrealistic etc.

You have the whole Government previously offering tax incentives to multi national companies such as google and apple!

If I think of anything else ill put it up.

How do you think something on the banking sector might come up ?? Do u think it possible for them to ask about a disaster recovery plan or would this be more core IT. Or with the debt and refinancing how would they ask that.

I think u could be on to something here with the banks

Has anyone, a list of companies in each industry?

I was thinking it would be a good idea to have a number of companies which you could mention in the case study.

    EG Airline, Aer Lingus, Ryanair.

    Any thoughts?

Im trying to leave the evenings to APM, its hard to concentrate after a day full of Core.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

To be honest I'm not sure a list of company's will gain much . Maybe a List of company's in each industry incl there gearing/profitability could be useful for comparison.

    how u set ??

Not sure how prepared i am. even if i had another month for APM i dont think i would be any further on. It seems so much depends on the day.

Having 3 case too will make it harder to juggle time.

Ya I only have this but I actually don't feel I m prepared at all coz what can u do only read book and do the cases . Not much else to it. ( I hope )

Actually if u were asked to appraise a performance measure bonus system where would u find this in the notes. I know it's in Tyfanny but not sure where I would of found the answer any ideas ??

To be honest god knows! They could ask anything. Did the mock paper today wasn't too bad in places. Time is going to be very tough on the day! If you finish the paper you will have a good chance of passing

i agree - this exam could be hit or miss

can anybody explain mock 2010 sim 2 pharma indicator 1 solution re the working capital? looks like it just lumped in a forecast to give the improvement?

i'm convinced we will see working cap in apm or the core under PM with the amount of mid size companies struggling these days

    ta

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭Dmac_Aca12

I would take that paper very lightly there are lots of mistakes in it. It was the very first paper they set.

There using forecast as that's the based of what they expect to have and if we improve we will have better .
